Reviews: Frills on top

Anthropologie at ShopStyle

Does Anthropologie have seasonal anxiety disorder or something? Yes they’re releasing coats and such but they’re also releasing a disproportionate number of spring-appropriate items. Were it April, with showers making flowers peek up through the naked soil I would be positively drooling over Yoana Baraschi’s Carmen Tieback ($148). But it’s October. You know…fall? Preparation for winter?

I suppose the season doesn’t really matter if you just want a pretty top. This top delivers. I found this top true to size (medium for me). It’s got both flowers and ruffles adorning the neckline and while that may be overkill for some I found the effect worked. I really disliked the asymmetric neckline on the Rolling Ruffles knockoff Tutu Tank ($68, review here) but on this top it was executed very well. It’s slightly annoying that the lining is a bit shorter than the chiffon overlayer. Otherwise, I have only good things to say about this top.

In-store the shirts were tied to the front instead of the back. Under a cardigan or blazer I think that styling would be very cute! It’s very pretty but at $148 I’m waiting for it to go on sale. Especially since I wouldn’t wear it for months anyway.

I swear this Deletta top was on Anthro’s website but it seems to have disappeared. Update 10/24: It’s back! It’s the Dripping Blossoms Tee ($68). A cousin to the Perennial Stripe Tank ($68) and the sale-aversive Blooming Phlox Tank ($58), it has the same rawness and unfinished feel. If the three tops were an oil painting I’d say this is the one that got wet and dripped doooooown. For a curvy, busty gal like me the flowers could not be in a worse place. The crop sleeves are not helping either. I tried on the medium which was a bit loose in the torso but I had no desire to try on the small. I like the deep red color but that is about it for this item. This top is $68.

Review by request time! This is the Rustled Air Sweater ($78) for Kate. It’s by Sleeping on Snow — a favorite Anthro brand of mine — and comes in black, grey and the yellow you see above. I tried on the small which fit close to my body. Not overly tight though. The wool/acrylic mix wasn’t itchy at all. Most of the product page reviews complain that the shoulders are football playeresque, and I don’t disagree but…I like this top! I really like it. The larger shoulders seem to balance my bust nicely and while I would have loved two more inches on the length I think this would make a great party top or even a weekend date top. I’d probably try on the medium before buying to see if it helps the length at all. I never would have tried this top on my own — thanks for the request Kate!

oh my I love all three of those. In Seattle we definitely need to deal with this long rainy gray season somehow. Thanks for the pics & great reviews.

The first top is so beautiful! Maybe you could put a v-neck sweater over it and let the flowers show out the top. I think a v-neck cardigan would go well, too, then in the springtime you can wear it alone!

I love the Carmen Tieback, but not the cost. Can you let me know if the Wind Rippled tee in red is in stores? It's not online, but I've seen a few people mention it in blogs.

KristinH, the red seems to be in certain stores right now. I saw it at the NYC Anthros last week but not the Westport, CT Anthro. I can provide the SKU when I get home from work late tonight — your best bet might be to call the 1-800 line and have them do a store search.

LOL @ the "sale averse" monniker for the Blooming Phlox — that is such a good name for those annoying types of items ;)You were very right that the Carmen top looks fantastic! Very unseasonal, it's true, but fantastic.

The wind rippled tee is available in my Anthro store in Reston, VA. I saw it yesterday. One of my stores here in VA had the Camel Tieback featured with the Tick Tock cardigan. It was quite cute. It brought out the orange in the sweater.

Oooo, the last top is very cute! It -is- weird that Anthro is churning out all these floral prints when winter is a-coming, but like you said, maybe it's for those who need a reminder that winter doesn't last forever!

Thanks Roxy. I think I'll swing by my store after work today to see if they have it. If they don't have it I will try calling the 800#. thanks

I know you're not sold but I'm thinking I kinda love the Delleta top! That would look cute under a cardigan? I don't usually wear much red, but this is making me think I should branch out…Roxy, have you come across the Plaza cardigan in your travels? I'm trying to decide if it's fabulous or a hot mess. I'm leaning toward fabulous!

I remember reading on your blog a lil while ago that you wanted the The Artists Tote, it's on sale for $39.95.

PFP, I have tried on the Plaza Cardigan. Review here! I really liked it but I can't think of where I'd wear it, so it hasn't been adding to my growing Anthro collection yet.Pakcola, thank you so much for the heads up. 🙂 Unfortunately I went over my October spending budget so I'm forced to wait until next month before I can order the tote. Hope it's still there!

that yellow top looks superb on you. the strong shoulders give it a 40s vintage look. i really love seeing the clothes on regular people, when something looks great it's so much more inspiring/intriguing.

Roxy: The tieback blouse is BEAUTIFUL. I saw it yesterday, but the $148 price is a showstopper for sure. I have it on my wish list for when it goes on sale. I also think you could wear under a cardi for the fall.
