Reviews: Grey-Tie Top, Tucked & Gathered Tee, Gemma Lace Top

Good morning ladies…does this top look familiar?

Anthropologie at ShopStyle

one.september’s Grey-Tie Top ($78) first came out back in June. If you read through my archive from that month I had a few posts about it, in outfit sets and then as part of commentary about the homogenized offerings from retailers. The top was only out for a few weeks before it either sold out or was pulled from shelves. Interesting that it’s back for fall — I think this is the more appropriate season for it.

The top is jersey with hundreds of streaming ruffles adorning the placket. It looks like I had a fight with the shredder and lost the first two rounds. It’s got a racerback and the jersey is thin enough that you can see my white bra shining through. I found this top to be very fitted. I’m wearing my true size medium for the shots above.

It creates a flattering shape but in my opinion this top is tough looking. I would want to soften it with a cardigan. Overall I was pretty meh on it.

Another fitted offering is the Tucked & Gathered Tee ($48) by Deletta. I tried on both a small and a medium and didn’t find much of a difference between the two. The medium was slightly looser in the chest but not much. The sky color is a lovely shade though not very flattering on me. If I were to buy this top I’d have to go with black. The stitching on the tucks and gathering seemed well-done and I imagine this top would be flattering to chests both small and large. It was just a bit too fitted for me to feel comfortable.

Lace is back and I can’t really complain about the youthful shapes it’s been molded into. Above is a gorgeous Gemma top that isn’t yet on the website called the Lady-of-Seville Tank. It’s $228 but my goodness is it ever beautiful on. The tiers are a mix of lace and silk and it has a racerback. I tried on the small which was tight on my hips but perfect everywhere else. I was in love. Swoon. But I’m curious as to how quickly we’ll see a knockoff of this for considerably less money. I’ll update the post once this beauty shows up online.

There are so many repeat items right now! The only changes on the Ice Capped Blouse are the name, sleeve material, and price. Not loving it…

I like the Wavelet blouse better. The sleeves were nicer. I'm not loving the sheer sleeves on the new one.

I bought the tucked & gathered tee and it is one of my favorite shirts. I found that the gathers hid my tummy really well and the bottom pooled on my hips really nicely (I'm petite & have a short torso). I also bought the grey cardigan with the same colored embroidered flowers on the front (don't know what the cardigan is called) to wear over this (along with the AG tomboy jeans (yes, it was an expensive day at Anthropologie). This has been my go-to outfit for the last month. It just goes to show you that unless you try items on at Anthro you never know how they will look on you.

Emily and Diem, I agree about the sheer sleeves. Not loving it. Then again the Wavelet Blouse didn't work for me either so I don't really have a strong opinion.Stacie, sounds like you had an awesome birthday haul! You're so right about trying things on too, I have loved things that I thought I would hate and sadly vice versa.Emily, they are J.Crew's tall Brewster Boots from last fall in Espresso. I see them on ebay a lot if you want to snag a pair. 🙂

Hey Roxy,So I just did a quick image search for the Wavelet blouse after seeing your post, and it turns out a company called eShakti makes a similar blouse in a variety of colors for 49.99. I believe it's sort of a fair trade type place, out of India, but it seems like an cool company. The awesome thing about it is that all of the clothing is hand made, and you can customize it to fit your needs. As a result, their Wavelet can be longer, have a differnt type of neck (scoop, square), whatever you prefer. They also ask you your height and your bra size to make sure the shirt fits perfectly. You just select your preferences from some drop down menus on the site to customize your order. I am considering the Wavelet in another color, like brown for example. The funny thing is, the description of the Wavelet blouse on eShakti is almost identical to the one Anthro provided. I'll post the link in case you want to pass the info on or do some investigating yourself!http://www.eshakti.com/clothpdpage.asp?catalog=Clothes&cate=blouses&productid=CL0017305

A VELVET WAVELET???? Do I need both? Have I lost my mind?

LOL not at all Maria. The more I look at the Ice Capped Blouse, I think I would love it if they just took the sleeves off altgether.

Maria – it's not velvet, just the middle piece. It's actually tulle. I prefer the Wavelet and I'm happy I bought it! This one's pretty but I'm not loving the sheer sleeves.
