Reviews: Sweaters of all kinds

Here’s yet another shot I love from the November catalogue. I want to learn how to replicate the model’s hairstyle! I am terrible at braiding my own hair but that almost looks doable.

The sweater is the Laced Dots Sweater ($128) by Karen Nicol. Note the black mark by the bottom band is not on the sweater — it’s on the dressing room mirror. My concern was weather the strong black neckline would look romantic on me or more like a hairy necklace. Luckily I think it’s the former. One of the reviews on the site wonders if this sweater is made for smaller chests. My 34Ds were just fine. Based upon other recommendations I did size up one size to a large. I would say this sweater runs small. I didn’t find the sweater itchy but it’s not very soft either. I loved this sweater so much I bought it. I just couldn’t leave it behind!

Sparrow’s Dwarf Quince Cardigan ($98) features an open placket and a twisted pull in the back. The pattern is surprisingly versatile and this just feels so easy on. I tried on my true size medium and felt that it fit well. I also love the touches of silver thread that trace over the sweater. I don’t like how open cardigans flap about in the wind. A belt could easily secure this one. It looks great over a variety of tops and would make a great office warming-up cardigan. I really like this one and added it to my wishlist.

Sparrow’s second item in my pile was the Tempting Trellis Cardigan ($98). Super tempting indeed. This cardigan is meant to be paired with a skirt in my opinion because it’s a bit short. My true size medium fit great! The ruching in the front really makes this cardigan special and the print is just fabulous. The way it creeps onto the back of the cardigan is really something. My main complaint is that it’s pretty thin. I could see needing another sweater on top of this one when my office gets cold. But for spring or warmer climates I think this cardigan is great. I will probably wait and hope it makes it to sale.

Speaking of short cardigans, Knitted & Knotted’s Spirited Stitches Cardigan ($98) was shockingly short. I think the version in the product photo is a good 4 inches longer. What happened to that version Anthropologie? I would like it back. All season I’ve been sizing down in Knitted & Knotted’s dresses but in this cardigan it was my true size medium all the way. Despite the shortness I think this cardigan is great. I’d pair it with a skirt instead of pants most likely. The top stitching is kind of loose for my taste so you’ll have to be very careful when cleaning it. I like the colors in the cardi a lot and the buttons are pretty. I might try ordering the online version just to see if it’s longer.

I know there have been several review requests for the Zipline Cardigan ($118) but it disappeared quickly from the 5th Ave Anthropologie and I’ve not seen it since. In the meantime please accept the Saffi Pullover ($98) as an equal-length substitute. I was immediately drawn to the bib front and the length. Plus this sweater was so soft. I found it to run large so I sized down one size to a small. The back is cinched to help create a shape without much pulling. This sweater was so great that I had to bring it home.

Unfortunately a few days later it went right back. I wore this out once for about 5 hours. When I got home I noticed major pilling and rubbing on the elbows — so much so that the sweater clearly wasn’t going to last more than a few wears. I was dismayed by the poor quality so I took it back to one of the local Anthropologies. They accepted the return no questions asked, but the employee helping me did try to convince me to try an exhange instead. I politely declined. This sweater is pretty to be sure but I want it to still be in one piece once winter actually hits.

Ooh, I love the Saffi pullover, but what a bummer that it didn't wear well. I hate that, argh.I was going to ask- do you have any experience with anything by Beth Bowley? I am oogling over a coat of hers but I have no clue about sizing, and I thought I read somewhere that occasionally Anthro carries things by her. Hm hm hm.

Limited experience. I tried on the Crushed Petiole Blouse and loved it, but the front pleating was just too much for me. I like her jackets a lot and there is one dress I saw in a local boutique and want! Her dresses seem to run small but the few other things I've tried were TTS.

Oh gosh, I love the laced dots sweater on you- I've been waiting to try that one on. Glad you brought it home!

Ugh, I feel like they don't make clothes anywhere at any price point that are good quality anymore! It's so discouraging. I just bought a cardi from express that wore a hole through the thin material after 1 wear. I don't understand!

Of the 5 sweaters I own from Anthro, ALL of them have pilled within 3 wearings, including the Gumshoe Sweatercoat. 🙁 Makes me very sad.

I stopped buying a lot of J. Crew sweater because they pilled, I would hate not to buy Anthropologie sweaters for the same reason. And I love the Saffi Pullover! Looks long enough for my belly. But, I hate pilling. Especially after one wear, is it bad knit? Bad yarn? You would like there is a way to prevent it.

I've been waiting to see the Laced Dots Sweater IRL, so glad you got it! It's very cute. I posted about the Dward Quince Cardigan on my blog and I think its online pictures do not do it justice 🙂 I think it's a very pretty print. I just received a few things that I had ordered so I'm hoping they'll work for me! Have a good weekend, Roxy!

Good picks! There were a few I have been wanting to try on and a few that weren't even on my radar but now I must try them on. Thanks.

Good morning ladies! Kim – me too! I wanted to wear it today but it's too warm. CS12 – I agree that in general clothing quality is going down. I could easily go off on a long rant about why I think that is but instead I'll just mourn the death of quality and American fashion jobs.Anon – that is terrible! Some materials are going to pill no matter what but I'm sorry you've had such a negative experience with Anthro's sweaters. :(Georgine – hard to say why it happened…the sweater is cotton-cashmere so maybe the cashmere was sewn too loosely? If the sweater were $50 I would have exchanged and tried again. But at nearly $100 I would rather spend a bit more for a nice cashmere sweater.tres tippy – I'm excited to see what you got! Your Plaid Petal Skirt OOTD is so cool. :)JenLynn – Anytime lady. 🙂

thanks for these great reviews roxy! The quince cardi just went right into my cart! And isn't the karen nichol sweater so fabulous? I couldn't resist it either and got it a few weeks ago. I think it will look great with a black pencil skirt and can't wait to have an occasion to wear it!

Hi, I know this is OT but I have 2 gorgeous items I am going to put on the JCA exchange (Anthro items) that I have hung onto forever as I loved them but they just dont fit! So I just put them on your last Trade Market post in case anyone is interested. Hope that is okay…

kater – so funny, the dressing room attendant had the same styling suggestion last night at Anthro! Great minds and all that.Sydneygirl – totally fine with me.

The Tempting Trellis Cardigan WILL BE MINE. I am short enough to wear a short sweater, I think. I LOVE the laced dots sweater on you and now I want to try it on. Romantic, indeed!

I tried to try on the laced dots sweater, but my size disappeared from my store! Maybe I will order it online. The Dwarf Quince Cardigan is pretty, but I couldn't buy it because it had NO BUTTONS. Even if I don't use the buttons, I like to have them. I love buttons. Besides, I can already see wearing in front of my mom, and her saying, "Tien, you got a defective sweater. Whoever made it forgot to sew the buttons on and make the button holes!"

great reviews 🙂 I love the Saffi pullover on you! and I have the dwarf quince cardigan, and it is in fact, super versatile- I've worn it far more times that I thought I could in the short month or so I've had it.

Thanks for the reviews Roxy. I have been secretly lusting over the Laced Dots Sweater. I was not sure it was gonna work IRL, just a feeling I had, but I see it is beautiful. I am glad you got it!
