Reviews: Needlepoint Niceties Top, From-the-Green Cardi, Rivers Rise Top, New Academia Skirt

Rock and Tree
from mr_sparkle’s flickr

The Rockefeller Center Tree was lit on Wednesday. This event marks the beginning of insanity at Rockefeller Plaza — it’s almost impossible to walk around. Yet for some dumb reason I decided to go to that Anthropologie (on a Sunday no less). Clearly I have a death wish. The Anthro was super crowded and had more guys inside then I’ve ever seen. The store was in surprisingly clean shape, especially compared to the J.Crew across the way. But there wasn’t much in the way of new stuff so I grabbed just a few things. The staff was in a better mood than they were last weekend when I was there. Only a few more weeks of craziness all!

The first item I tried on was the Needlepoint Niceties Tank ($68) by Ex Libris. Wouldn’t Ex Libris make a fantastic wrestler’s name? The shirt is mostly modal with a thick strip of rickrack that fits like a bandeau across your chest. I tried on my true size medium and with a bit of fiddling I was able to get decent coverage. I am very happy with the way the shirt is sitting in the photos.

I did not expect to like this shirt. But I did like it a lot! It’s very pretty with a darling neckline and just the right amount of embellishment. The bandeau strip continues around the back and the back also dips in a v (not too low though). The front hangs straight but loose from the bust down. On me this created some soft loose pleats. Some people may feel this is too loose. The length is pretty good, landing almost mid-hip. The shoulders are really pretty from the front but not as flattering from the sides. I liked this one enough to add it to my wishlist.

Since short sleeves will not do in December (despite Anthropologie releases trying to convince us to the contrary) I tried the From-the-Green Cardi ($128) by Tabitha on over the shirt. This beautiful cardi is itself pretty springlike in color. It closed fine with no gaps in my true size medium but I only took pictures with it open. Ladies, this cardi is so pretty! It’s the third straight Tabitha item I wanted to take home with me. I resisted because I own the Wildflower Cardigan from 2007 which is too similar in my mind.

This cardigan is thin but not see-thru. The embroidery is well-done with no loose threads that I could see. The sleeves are that annoying length between 3/4 and bracelet. Pick one dammit! I pushed them up a bit for the photos. Perhaps the best thing about this cardigan is that’s a 3-season cardigan easily. This would be a great option for warmer climates where it’s cold in your office but no so much outside. It also works in colder climates as a layer in a warm outfit. Want it much; trying to stay strong.

Spectacular white socks aside this outfit was another happy surprise. It’s one.september’s Rivers Rise Top ($68) untucked left and tucked in right with the New Academia Skirt ($98) by Taikonhu. Let’s start with the shirt. It’s a mostly cotton top with two points of visual interest: first, the puckered stitching around each shoulder that truly reminds of water and second a faux wrap effect on the left side. Both of these take this top a step above the ordinary. I tried on my true size medium and it was just the right fit. The v neck is pretty deep but I didn’t find it too revealing.

The skirt was just awesome. It’s a huge improvement over the Flaneuse Skirt in my opinion; a couple of inches longer with a better waistline. The waistline has a lot of give to it and has a cool tiered look. I still had to size up one size to a 10 to be comfortable around the hips but this skirt was so fun on! The color scheme has a pop in real life that isn’t going to be for everyone but if you don’t mind being a bit loud this skirt is great. It’s sitting in my shopping cart as we speak. At $98 I’m willing to pay full price.

That first shirt looks fabulous on you, Roxy! I'm a bit envious, as it looked silly on me :(Cheers,Sarah

Excited to see the New Academia skirt, thanks so much for including this one! It is in my most recent(but much delayed for no apparent reason, grr)order that's on the way! If you remember, how would you describe the pink color in the tweed? It's hard to tell what it is from the online photos, and I have this Jackie cardigan in deep rose that might look cute with it…? :)Thanks, Roxy!

Hi ladies! Skara Bray – that is such a wonderful compliment on both counts, thank you!Sarah – hee hee, it's happened enough where something looks silly on me too. Suzanne – I would describe the pink as landing somewhere between red and pink, closer to pink though. Which is probably no help at all but worth a shot. Thank you goldenmeans and Archana!

Stephanie – just a rough idea at this point but I'd like to see how the skirt looks with the Vermillion Flurry Blouse and the Tempting Trellis Cardigan.
