Reviews: Fargyle Skirt, From Monet Skirt, Daisy Quarters Skirt

I hope you’re having a lovely holiday weekend. Like a lot of others, I found some Anthropologie not only around the Menorah but also under the Tree. I’m sitting on a regular stockpile of Anthro gift cards at the moment. (Mwahaha.) Just in time for my birthday in January too! I hope yours was equally as fruitful. On to the reviews…

Is it just me or the does the model have her bish pleez face on? Ms. Model, I feel exactly the same way…

…because I tried on Odille’s Fargyle Skirt ($88) and I think it’s pretty fair to say I don’t get it. I have no idea what this skirt is trying to say. Circus tent? Geometry’s revenge? No idea. I grabbed a size 8 which fit but I had a very hard time with the side…fins? They stuck a lot more than the product shot shows but no amount of tucking or folding seemed to make them sit correctly. I applaud the risk-taking but this skirt is too far out for me.

This skirt fits like a pencil and I found the length satisfactory, hitting just above my knees. I do not care for the yellow waistband which just too shocking for me against the skirt. I could get away with wearing this to the Tim Burton exhibit at MoMA. Else, too fantastical.

Next I went for Dolan’s pretty From Monet Skirt ($128). My iPhone had a hard time with the print so I apologize for the blurriness of the photos. This skirt is alpha-sized so I grabbed the medium. On the one hand, I like that this skirt is voluminous on the parts of my body that are most voluminous. On the other hand it wasn’t exactly doing much streamline me. The shape is fun so I liked it.

It’s a short skirt so I’d wear leggings under this for sure. There are pockets which I’m always in favor of. I can’t decide how I feel about the silk draping into a coalescent oval of sorts. Interesting? Sure. But I don’t find it very flattering on and for that reason I passed on this one for now. See it on Justine from Fetching Fashions here.

My last skirt of the day was Lauren Moffat’s exquisite but expensive Daisy Quarters Skirt ($248). Poring over the skirt I can see why the price is what it is. Every stitch of embroidery is carefully done and looking at the silk-lined skirt from underneath you won’t see a single mistake. It almost looks handmade.

I found this skirt to run large. The 8 was big enough that I could slip it on without undoing the zipper. The waist has some stretch to it so I think you’re safe to size down at least 1 size and maybe 2. I am not a fan of the exposed zipper and the skirt is kind of stiff. However I love the pattern so much that I still want it. Badly. Sale? Birthday discount? Somehow.

I have the Daisy Quarters skirt and I agree that it is beautifully made. The hemline is really what sold me. I'm in love with unique hems (scallops, etc.) and the daisy shapes just kill me. I do find that it is stiff, so it looks very a-line and full on. I think it looks great on you!

I'm totally with you on that last skirt, lovely, I tried it on and felt the same way, sort of, like I shouldn't quite love it because it its (minor) flaws, but I still did. I needs to go on sale, asap. my store has a ton, so Im holding out hope.

i think the "fins" as you call it are supposed to give a victorian bustle silhouette.

I don't get the "fins" either. I feel like if it already has so much going on in term of structure, they should have made it with a plain color instead of the print.

Thanks for the shout out, Roxy! I just loved that skirt… funny how one person can be in love with it and another is just "meh." I'm going to feature an outfit with it, soon… I can't wait! :)Justine http://www.fetchingfashions.blogspot.com

Am I the only one that thinks the Anthro moddle looks like a deranged LiLo? *scratches head*

I thought the blue on the Fargyle skirt was so pretty in that image, but when I saw it in store, I had the same reaction! The shape was so…strange. Waste of a good, saturated blue IMO!The Daisy Quarters skirt is preeeettty Hope you get it somehow, cause you look great in it 🙂
