Quick hits: Emmer Corset Top, Frills & Stripes Blouse, Into the Night Blouse

How tall do we think this model is? 5’10”? 5’8″? Note the length of the Emmer Corset Top ($78) on her. She must have an incredibly short torso.

Because on me this top barely cleared my belly button. Either that or there was some catalog photo shoot trickery going on which gets a serious frowny face from me. I know that Kim had the same issues while trying the top on (although for the record I think the halter looks great on her!). The length discrepancy between catalog and real life is ridiculous though. Did they use a 12-year-old as the fit model?

Still, I like Floreat’s halter top. I think that with a high-waisted skirt or the right camisole underneath it would look lovely. Let there be no doubt I would have appreciated another three inches of material wholly. But in absence of a tall version of this top those are the options. The wheat pattern is charming and the eyelet bottom trim is a very nice touch. I sized up to an 8 for the best fit. I simply refuse to pay full price and encourage this shortness but on sale I’ll probably grab this one.

I had my suspicions that this is exactly what the Frills & Stripes Blouse ($88) would look like on. Attack of the frill monster. This shirt is by Blue Robin and it’s very well made. The waist sat on my natural waist — hooray! — and the buttons match the color of the shirt exactly. I like the subtle stripes and the straight cut of the shoulders. I think the ruffles were just a bit too overpowering for me. My true size 6 was a close but comfortable fit.

Girls From Savoy bring us the lovely colorblocked Into The Night Blouse ($88). The fit on this top is going to be tricky on any curves. If you have any tummy at all the lower portion is going to accentuate it. If you have a chest the darker color of the upper portion balances it somewhat but it can look cartoonish against the tapered shape of the waist. Miraculously, this shirt worked on me. I honestly have no idea how. I sized up to an 8 for length but the fit was perfect.

A couple of the reviews note that this shirt is polyester and I agree that’s just unacceptable. 2009 was the year of designers skimping on materials. Let’s not continue this habit into 2010, OK Anthro? I expect high-quality materials from this store and I won’t settle for anything less at these price points. I will not buy this top at full price but at $40 polyester might be a bit easier to swallow.

i really resent having to wear a cami under something that is already sleeveless, they could have just given a little more material and spared us all the trouble. amen @ polyester.

Thanks for the link love and the nice compliment about the halter lady 🙂 For what it's worth, I think it looks nice on you too, and I really love the Into the Night Blouse on you! Why polyester Anthro, why? 🙁

$88 for a polyester blouse is highway robbery! It's too bad, though, I love the top. I think it looks wonderful on you, but I just can't pay that for the top.

Heya Roxy,I am a bit of a fan of your blog for a few months now. I love what you do with it and look forward to your reviews. I love have to say I LOVE the Into the Night Blouse on you. Makes you look long and lean. Too bad about the poly. I also agree with the cami and the ruffles from hell.

I actually like the first and last top, but boo on polyester! Did you by any chance see the On-A-Wing Blouse in your store??

Thanks Kim & Tien!volleyhead, you're too sweet. Thank you for the lovely compliment. Lauren – Not yet. Last week's delivery was pretty small but I was told that next week there should be plenty of new arrivals in-store.

Hi Roxy,Thanks for recommending the Rockefeller Center Anthropologie Store to me! You're right – it definitely had the "wow" factor, but it didn't have much in the way of new items. I caved and used one of my Christmas gift cards to buy the curled ribbon tank (it was sooo flattering and unique that I just couldn't resist…) but I'm saving my other gift cards for new spring items.Speaking of spring items, if you happen to notice the Sun Dot Dress or the Lime Juice Dress in stores, can you please tell me what you think of them? I don't think I'll be near another Anthro store for a few months, so it would be nice to have an idea before I shell out $15 for shipping.

P.S. I love the Into The Night Blouse on you. I hope that it goes on sale so that you can justify buying it. I agree that $88 is too much for polyester. Come on, Anthro. Stop getting cheap with the fabrics! (I'm still bitter about the Houndstooth Dress being paper thin)

Roxy agree with you about the polyester. They are really overpricing things for the quality.

Lola–The Lime Juice Dress is lovely in person. That being said, I'm 5'3" and I thought it was overwhelmingly long. Not sure how tall you are. I'm posting fitting room photos of it tonight.I hope you don't mind, Roxy, that I put that out there.

Regarding the shortness of tops: I've noticed that J Crew has the same problem with sleeve length. A lot of their sweaters appear to be full length sleeves, but in the description state "3/4". Do their models have freakishly short arms or something?

Hi Roxy, If you get a chance would you mind reviewing the fifth form shift dress from Maeve? It would be greatly appreciated!

I read on Kim's blog that tomorrow there was going to be a sale. I know that you have the laced dots sweater and was wondering if you had the style number for it? When I clicked through on the post that you reviewed it on it just went back to Anthro's home page. Thanks for your help. I love your blog.

Lola – I stopped by Rockefeller Center on Sunday and was shocked by how quiet it was and how few new items they had. Everyone still looked shell-shocked from the holidays though. I bet they're just glad for a few days to recover. 🙂 I'll keep my eyes out for those dresses, totally interested in trying them on ASAP.ali – it's just not right.Tien – don't mind at all.CteKing – hee, I hope not. Short arm epidemic!! That would make for some strange sights around the city.Sheil – I will keep my eyes peeled for it.Unguren – Thank you! It's style #910282.

Oh wow, I am shocked at how short the Emmer Corset is running! It is so pretty though, I think I too would buy it (on sale, of course, I will not encourage cropping either!) and just wear it with a cami underneath as you are doing here.

I must be the exception for the Emmer Blouse (a rarity for me!) because it fit like a glove for me. I am short and short-waisted, so I'm sure those were the contributing factors. I did end up buying it because how can I resist a top with wheat on it? Too cute! And by the way, it looks great on both Roxy and Kim! http://www.likelybadger.com

I am glad that Anthro has items that fit for different body types. I am 5'8" and think a lot of their items work great on my body type and appreciate it so much. The "Lime Green" dress works great on a taller frame, but some of the other newish arrivals "Dandelion Wishes" for example look much better on the more petite (like Tien). There are just some items that aren't meant to be for me, and I just keep on trying on until I find the things that are! I so much appreciate this site so that I can read reviews and not spend so much on shipping (or driving the 1.5 hours to my nearest anthro)! Thank you Roxy!! Also, BOO to polyester shirts, pants I'll let it slide, but NOT shirts.

That's so annoying with the first top… I wonder if maybe they had the model wear a much bigger size and then pinned it to fit her?

You are AWESOME for taking REAL shots of the clothes on a real body. So many times the reviews say something is too short-waisted when it looks too long on the mannequin. I was kicking myself for not ordering the Into the Night Blouse — there's no Anthro near me –but now I see what you mean about how it fits. Also, I always order stuff from them online, but I never find anything I like, that fits right, when I'm in the store. I'm so glad someone is doing this!
