Styled: Monochromatic Corset Dress

Anthropologie at ShopStyle

This post is for Diana Draw, who asked for winter-appropriate looks for the Monochromatic Corset Dress (now $100).

The bold pattern of this dress makes it hard to do other patterns with it. Hard — but not impossible! For work I’ve found it’s best to quiet this one down with a soft cardigan. We found a lovely cardigan that has the same black/white combination but in a vertical pattern that takes the dress down a notch or two. (It’s also very slimming.) The necklace is big and bold but believe it or not it balances well against the dress and draws the eye upward. You could go without a necklace if this is too much look for you. We kept the earrings and shoes simple but went with other loud accessories. Against this strong of a dress you can get away with it.

In this outfit:
Monochromatic Corset Dress (now $100)
Milly Ribbon Appliqué Cardigan ($265, similar here and here)
Jimmy Choo ‘Nova’ Patent Leather Pump ($665)
Mescalero Bag ($498)
Apt 9 Lace Tights (similar here, here and here)
Gardenia Bib Necklace ($198)
Garden’s Gate Earrings (similar here, here and here)

This time around we tried mixing brown and pink tones in with the standard black. The turtleneck is meant to be worn under the dress, playing up the dancerlike qualities of it. The blazer keeps things structured and with a scarf for colder days you’ll look like you just came from the studio. We sought out accessories with a bit of sparkle to them and topped things off with a fun bag. On really cold days you could throw a winter coat over this whole ensemble.

In this outfit:
Monochromatic Corset Dress (now $100)
J.Crew tissue turtleneck in buff pink (now $20)
Boundless Blazer ($118)
Frye Betty T-Straps ($168)
Chocolate Pie Bag ($158)
Deck-The-Halls Necklace ($48)
Donegal Tights (similar here and here)
Bits-Of-Ice Bracelet ($48)
Bewitched Magnolia Posts (similar here, here and here)

roxy i love the styles!! can't wait to try it with my dress. Just a question, do you happen to have any other suggestions as a sub for the Milly cardigan? It's a little too much for my budget right now

Very cute Polyvores. I recently read that lace tights are in. Where have I been? Now that Roxy has pointed them out, I *really* need some ;-).

Nice outfits! And thanks for all of your super helpful reviews. I was on the fence about the Florry dress which reappeared in my cart, but when I saw your comments re: sizing and the beautiful pics you took wearing it, I was sold! You were spot on, it fits at least a size larger and looks fantastic, I am in love. Thanks again!

Hi Roxy. Sorry for the late comment, but I just got back from a 5-day ski trip in Tahoe. I'm a fan of both the P'vores you posted, thank you so much! I esp. like the idea of a black & white cardi with the vertical stripes. I also like the idea of working in a warmer palette with the pink and brown in the 2nd styling. Nice.
