Quick hits: Catching up on tops

Seen at the Soho Anthropologie:
Small Packages Cardi ($98), Emmer Corset Top ($78),
Cayenne Stripe Skirt ($248) & From O’Keeffe Necklace ($48)

I have a ton of top reviews to get through so I thought I’d combine them into one epic post. A few of these haven’t hit the website yet but I’m sick of waiting. Want. To. Share. Enjoy!

Stepping-Out Tee ($88) by Bordeaux: Love the beaded shoulders on this thin jersey tee. I do think the embellished shoulders end up making my chest bigger (didn’t love that as much). I tried on my true size medium. The skirt is pulling the shirt outwards — it’s shaped straight. I’d size up to a large to buy this even though that would be pretty loose. I’d prefer loose to tight. Waiting for sale.

Solar Star Blouse ($98) by Floreat: Holy crap, a Floreat blouse that’s long enough on me! Be still my heart. Sooo excited! Like the yellow color, dislike the sheerness (oh hai bra!), ambivalent on the cap sleeves. I sized up to an 8 and this was a good move. Waistband hits exactly where I want it too. Seems like Floreat redid their blouse pattern and I could not be happier. Wishlisted!

Zigzags & Zinnias Tee ($68) by Little Yellow Button: Nautical meets floral. Apparently this pattern is supposed to be slimming…not seeing it. Liked it anyway but wish that weird floppy piece of fabric front and center was gone. I tried on my true size medium and the fit was good. The scoopneck is the perfect depth. But my gosh, how many floral applique shirts can one girl own? Rationalism takes a back seat. Waiting for sale.

Free Flow Tank ($78) by Bordeaux: Mentally renamed this the Wrinkly Tied Tank. Ruffles do not continue all the way around and I find this odd. (I guess it would be kinda bulky.) Top tier ruffle was very funky and sticking out sideways on me. Boo. True size medium was a close but comfortable fit. Probably meant for smaller chests. Pass for me.

Ruffles Everywhere Tunic ($88) by one.september: Can’t make up my mind on this one. I tried on my true size medium which had some extra room bulkiness in the back. I wouldn’t size down though as it was tight around my thighs. Ruffles kind of look like a Venus Fly Trap over my chest. This scares the boyfriend. The sleeves are nicely capped without cutting arm line. Grey layer is sheer. Why? I have no idea. Back to the rack for now.

Friendly Competition Top ($68) by Odille: Awesome little top. Falls straight. Ruffle cap sleeves are not my favorite but the front view is great. My true size 6 fit well. Wish I’d seen the amazing blue color in-store. It’s made of cotton but has just a touch of structure to it. Love everything about it. In my cart, waiting for my next online order.

Mystery top by Deletta ($68): If anyone knows what this top is called please leave a comment! It’s a great top. Mix of blue tones with a drop sleeve. Easy fit with a banded hem. As with all Deletta tops I sized down to a small. This will be a great spring transitional top. I’d wishlist this one if was on Anthro’s website. Here’s the tag for reference.

Outside-The-Lines Top ($68) by RicRac: Neon print! Black background! Ruffled v-neck! Made of modal! RicRac, this is why I love you. Sized down to a small and bunching at my waist aside (sorry, it’s the tank I’m wearing underneath) this is a really cute top. Neon flowers are not for everyone but they make my electric heart go pitter patter. Wishlisted.

I have the Friendly Competition top and like it very much. It was flattering on you! You mention it being cotton, but mine (ivory) says rayon. I wish it was cotton because directions say dry clean. What is your experience with rayon fabrics? Thanks for the post on tops, because I've been wondering about many of these (not in my stores yet).

I love the Solar Star Blouse!

  4. January 14, 2010 / 3:53 pm

Tien, have you seen it in person? I saw it, but did not have time to try on, and I was a little disappointed in fabric. Not cotton, some kind of blend that was thin and slightly crinkly? Not nearly as nice quality as the Cinched Medallion one.

I bought the Free Flow top the other night and I didn't feel that it was as wrinkly as yours is showing. Maybe some stores decided not to steam them?

Thanks Jennifer and Anon @ 8:34!maureen – yes that's it! There were at least 4 or 5 at the store when I tried this on, but that was a bit over a week ago now. It was the 5th Ave Anthropologie (NYC). Tien – It's pretty nice. The yellow color makes me feel happy.Jennifer – I remember the Cinched Medallion Tee being kind of thin and crinkly also. Seems like Floreat has a winter mix and a summer mix for their blouses.KristinH – I'm sure that's exactly what it was. It is one of my pet peeves when stores don't steam before setting out.

Hi roxy love the ruffled friendly competition tee, it is so cute.did you get a email fromanthro to rate their jackets?

  11. January 14, 2010 / 6:44 pm

Stacy O. – glad the review helped! Lucy – congrats on your engagement! I'm sure the Small Packages Cardi will look beautiful over your wedding dress. Thanks Taryn! I can't wait to make it mine.ali – I did not, but I was in the last round of Anthro surveys so I don't expect to get one this time. Did you see anything you liked?

well i saw a lot of longish neutral blazers which to me are a little dull, but they had one jacket which had a floral print that cinched at the waist w a black tie that was cute. I thought maybe they would offer youa discount code for completing the survey. too bad…

  13. January 14, 2010 / 7:46 pm

In the past, a small portion of respondents are offered a % off the item they chose in the survey. Not always and I'm not sure if they do this anymore. But I hope you're one of the lucky ones if they do!

Kind of OT, but I'm in love with the Cayenne Stripe Skirt in the first picture on the mannequin. Sadly, the skirt only goes up to a size 10 and this 12/14 girl will just have to admire it on others. It makes me so mad when some designers only make the smaller sizes. Guess I'll head to the gym :(Back to topic though…friendly competition is two thumbs up. Really liked it on you, Roxy. Thanks for the review; it's been in my wishlist for a little while and I moved it to my cart this morning.

It's the "Cloud Gown Tee" it came out right at the end of September. I love it!! 🙂 I paid full price at 68.00…..is it finally on sale now?

i got a survey a month or so ago about tees and alas no "bonus" for responding. I was hoping for a % off or something. Boo Hiss

HI Roxy,This is a bit off topic, but I finally tried the Traced Denim Dress. I am also a 34d, so I was a bit worried about the fit and initially passed this up. Did you feel the top was a little low-cut? I felt really va va va voom, overtly sexy in it, which was very unexpected.

  18. January 15, 2010 / 2:38 am

lindsey..elizabeth — Bummer about the skirt. I did see it in-store tonight but didn't have a chance to try it on (I ran in just before closing to grab something). I will head back tomorrow to try it on, maybe it runs large?Cinderella – still not on sale unfortunately. Maybe on Tuesday?Bronzi – LOL, I didn't get any kind of enticement when I took the survey either. Hi Anon @ 9:26 – I remember there being a hint of cleavage but I didn't feel it was especially low-cut. I'd probably wear a cami under it regardless. Va va va voom could be a good thing!

I freaking LOVE your reviews. LOVE.(except when I have already turned my nose up at something, and then I see it on you and think, "oh, that NEEDS TO BE MINE NOW." Then my wallet cries.)Anyway, I have been lurking for a while, and since I am slowly starting up my own blog again, I had to say hello.

The Outside the Lines top looks adorable on you!I was wondering if you would be able to style these two sweaters:- Graceful Point Cardigan in Turqoise- Juxtaposed Sweater Jacket in RedThanks 🙂

The Solar Star Blouse looks lovely on you – I totally say go for that. The colour is so happy and the details are adorable. Very cute!I'm not a huge fan of that odd pattern on the Zigzags & Zinnias Tee. I am not sure why anyone would claim it to be slimming – it didn't seem so even on a mannequin!

  22. January 15, 2010 / 1:17 pm

**waves hello at rubyblueshoes** Molly — added both to my list.Alissa — It is so happy! I am going to buy it for sure at some point, I might wait a bit since it's too springy to wear here right now.

I think Solar Star and the last three shirts look best on you. We both have the same problem with chest looking broad. I'm so frustrated that the wrinkled ruffly shirt didn't continue along the back either. If you are going to have bulk anyway, it should just be all around. As for see through stuff and bras, I've had it with straps falling down and wear cute skinny strapped sport bras that look like tank tops all the time these days. Wish I had done that earlier…
