Reviews: Natty Blazer, Honey From the Bees Blazer, Snapshot Jacket, Sprinkling-of-Pink Jacket

Blazers — Anthro can’t get enough of them.

As I mentioned in my last blazer roundup, I’m not a fan. I think I would like Anthropologie’s blazers a lot better if they weren’t all so short. Every single one seems cropped in some fashion and when you have curves that never works. They all seem to hit me high-hip when really I want them to hit mid-hip.

I gave it a shot anyway because I get review requests for blazers a lot. Above is Allihop’s Natty Blazer ($88). I tried on my normal size 8 for jackets but this felt tight. Can’t say I’m surprised since I’m a 34D. The blazer is really soft — it’s made of french terry which was oh so comfy soft. I also really like the back. There are darts and seams meant to build a flattering shape. However it just looks really bad to me closed. I tried going up to a 12 since a 10 wasn’t available and it still had a bit of pulling when closed. I think it’s the size of my bust against the seams of the coat. Pass.

This is Charlie & Robin’s Coyote Star Blazer ($118). At least, I think it is. Update 3/3: Nope, it’s actually the Honey From The Bees Blazer. It looks quite different from the product shot online but the brand and SKU match up. The print is significantly darker than the website product shot shows. This is the closest I came to liking a blazer at Anthro.

I tried on a medium and it fit comfortably. The blazer mostly feels and looks like a sweater which helps free it from feeling too structured. The seam in the front made me feel wide — had they stopped it right below the bustline it would have been very slimming. Close, but another pass.

If you don’t have $$$$ to throw at a Chanel tweed Elevenses’ Snapshot Jacket ($148) might be a good alternative. The collarless tweed was definitely big in NYC in the fall so I’m not surprised to see Anthro give their take on it. And I have to say, this almost worked on me.

I again reached for my normal size 8 which fit pretty well. The inside lining of this jacket is fabulous. The outside feels soft for a tweed and the color combo is pretty. It does a good job of showcasing a tiny waist. But again — the length! I hate it. I know this jacket is supposed to be cropped. Against my hips though it just does not flatter. This will look great on someone with minimal curves. Back to the rack for me.

Ali guest reviewed Elevenses’ Sprinkling-Of-Pink Jacket ($128) last month. I finally saw it in-store to try on myself. I tried on my normal size 8 which closed but I’d want to size up to a 10 to buy. The 8 was pretty tight over my bust. With a skirt I can see how this jacket would be very cute. I like the duo of patterns and the little bow in the back. Once again I feel like a teen who’s grown out of her kid clothes. The proportions just feel off. Not for me, but really pretty.

It's amazing how different the coyote looks online than in-person. Good pics & w/specific info per usual ;-). I think your point about trying to size up is very important. It's easy to get stuck on a number and think something doesn't work. It sometimes helps to go up 1 or 2 sizes based on the cut.

I tried on the Sprinkling-of-Pink Jacket too last month and loved it, but I had the same experience as you – too tight in the bust, so I had to size up. I know you didn't like it, but I love it on you!

I have such a hard time liking jackets/blazers. I am also very curvy and I feel like they just make me look frumpy and much bigger than I really am! I do think that Snapshot Jacket looks really nice on you – you're right about it actually showing off the waist. I've rarely seen a jacket/blazer that does that well.

I'm with you on the short blazers – I need something a little longer to balance out the old hips! I was disappointed in the Coyote Star Blazer in person – online it looks so much more light and muted in color. In person, it is such a dark blue which makes it seem more wintery than springy to me! Oh well!

I heart the coyote star blazer and LOVE that it's darker in store than online. I'm worried about ordering it though as maybe the one online is truly a different color? It is just so drastically different!thanks for the tryons roxy!

Again, total agreement! I have been in our store a couple of times this past week, and all the jackets are so short – even a couple of sweaters I really liked – were too short for me. I like jackets/blazers too. Easy for me to put on to dress up jeans. Thanks for the reviews!

Roxy: I saw and tried on the Coyote Star Blazer last weekend. I saw it in a red motif as well. I just didn't love it either and I think it was probably too short as well as for the reason I didn't like it. Looks totally different than online.

Something's up with that Natty blazer. I wear a size 0 and I'm only 5'2'', and the Natty blazer fit me funny too when I buttoned it up. My mom thought I should buy it and never button it up, but I didn't want to spend that much money on a jacket that I could never button up.

Anon @ 1:22, if you're visiting the city I'd recommend the Rockefeller Center store. It's in a great area, it's got two floors and a big sale room, plus it's got shoes.

I can definitely commiserate on Anthro's blazers. The only one that I have ever found to be flattering on my curvy body was the Short & Sweet Jacket. I highly recommend it for those of you with similar fit issues. The jacket is cut really small, so I had to go 2 sizes larger than usual. However, the bottom part of the jacket is open in the front, so the larger size doesn't affect the fit at the waist.

Hmmmmmm. That's so weird about the coyote star blazer! Yesterday I saw a jacket in the store that looked just like the one you tried on. It was black and white and had kind of a honeycomb knit texture to it. But the one on the website seems to have a more intricate cross-and-square pattern, and the color is definitely gray. The material doesn't seem to be the same at all. There's so much of a difference that I have to wonder if they're even the same piece. Maybe Anthro didn't receive the item they thought they would? Definitely weird. I love the online version but would not go for the one I saw in stores.
