Reviews: Landing Field Skirt, Pleated Pencil Skirt, Sailing Hobbyist Skirt

Patterns ahoy.

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend…maybe even enjoying an extra day off today? Yesterday I had lunch with my guy and then we watched the Daytona 500. We had dinner plans as well but ended up canning them to watch the end of the race. (Yes, we’re devoted fans of turning left.) This Dale Jr. fan was thrilled to see him finish 2nd and I was even happier for winner Jamie McMurray!! I was tearing up during his Victory Lane speech.

Over the weekend I hit all three NYC Anthros but didn’t find many of the requests you’ve made. Apologies for that, but I did find some other lovelies to try on…

The pattern of Edme & Esyllte’s Landing Field Skirt ($118) reminds me of amoebae. The three little planes on the main tier are cool though they seem a bit out of place to me. The reviews say this skirt is great for curves so I decided to give it a shot.

I sized up to a 10, which left extra room in the bum and waist but was the best fit over my thighs. This skirt is awesomely curve-hugging, which to me takes it away from being work appropriate and more suited for nights and days out. I found the fit a bit restrictive as all pencil styles are. Not so much that you have to take dainty steps but you will not be able to take full strides either. The silk voile feels great! Very light and airy with good movement. In the end this skirt is not quite right for me but certainly beautiful.

One skirt that is work-appropriate is Yoana Baraschi’s Pleated Pencil Skirt ($88). This twill skirt is tailored to the max with three pleats on each hip and a diagonal seam that trails inward. I tried on the 8 and it was a good fit at the waist but unfortunately not great across my thighs. A 10, if available, would have been just right. Still I can see all the good things about this skirt.

First, it makes your bum look amazing. And while you would think three pleats over the hip are not flattering, when you add the inward trailing diagonal seam the overall look is flattering. The twill material is office ready and the neutral tone choices (taupe or black) make this a great starting point for a work outfit. Wishlisted.

My final skirt of the day was Paperboy by G1’s Sailing Hobbyist Skirt ($88). I think I must have been bloated or I have gained weight. When I tried on these skirts they were all a bit tight. I have (had?) always been a comfortable 8 in G1’s skirts. There was some pulling across the thighs in this one though. I do think it runs true to size…perhaps a true size adjustment is in order for me. We’ll see. This skirt will also loosen as you wear it.

Anyway, the skirt I own from last year was a similar style but yellow and shorter. This year I’m happy to see different colors (navy or pink) as well as more length. While still above the knee this skirt is daytime appropriate and long enough to be comfortable. I would love to pick up this skirt in both colors. Wishlisted!

no ocean mist skirt *sniffle?* ;)I love the green skirt's color, but on fit I think the last one is the best. Thanks for the reviews!

The last skirt fit the best, I think. Some of those bubble like skirts are total hit or miss. We watched Daytona 500 yesterday, too. It lasted longer than the Oscars!!! I like Dale Jr. but he needs to lose the scruff 🙂

Thanks for the reviews. The Sailing Hobbyist skirt in pink is on my wishlist.I'm also a Dale Jr. fan and I was very happy with 2nd place especially after a crappy 2009.

I liked the Sailing Hobbyist Skirt on you the best as well. I tried on the Pleated Pencil Skirt and didn't like it that much. Perhaps it was the foundations that I had on. Pencil's are hard for me since if the waist fits the thighs/booty doesn't and if they fit then the waist is too big. Waiting for you to try on the Airmail skirt. I did buy it today. 🙂
