Reviews: Dewbud Tee (help!), Four Points Camisole, Chantico Tank

Pardon me while I walk along unfinished stone in bare feet (ow).

It was pretty clear to me upon seeing Yoana Baraschi’s Dewbud Tee ($88) that I needed it in my life. The neckline is exotic perfection with a touch of blue mixed in. Which left me with one of those silly dilemmas: which color to get the top in.

I started off by trying on my true size medium at Soho (curiously, the teal was not available there on Monday night). The v neckline is cut quite deep but little round pieces of white trim keep the top demure. All of the detailing was in great shape — sometimes I’ll see fraying or loose threads on these type of accents but happily that was not the case here. The overall fit of the medium was loose…

…so it was off to 5th Ave on Tuesday night to try the teal in a small. The overall fit was definitely better. Ladies, your input is needed! Should I invest in the teal or the navy? I’m stumped. I own a lot of navy shirts already, but then again teal is the most prominent color in my closet because it happens to be my color.

Odille was up next with their Four Points Camisole ($98). I felt like I’d ripped the flag down from the regatta’s mast and put it on. Yet I loved this piece! It takes a lot for me not to like blue, especially when it has cool colorblocking down at the hem. I tried on my normal size 6 which worked well. There are non-essential hook and eye closures down the front of the bodice. The shirt closes via a side zip in reality. The closures add some extra detail to balance against the ridiculously proportioned hem that I love.

The white trim looks like a straight line in these shots but it’s actually little scalloped dots. Cute! I have a problem in that everything I’m trying on seems like it would be great for my upcoming Mexico trip. Including this. Wishlisted.

I then took a detour to Grecian via Bailey44’s Chantico Tank ($88). Bailey44’s peeps are probably subconsciously recoiling somewhere since I always rail on them for their ridiculous pricing. But guess what? This top is priced 40% less obnoxiously than normal! It’s still a bit much to pay for rayon jersey but there’s clearly some work that went into twisting the bodice and getting the front drop to sit just right. So $88 isn’t bad by Anthropologie standards.

The white is so brilliant that it made me look somewhat tan. (I’m about as pasty as they come in winter.) I grabbed my normal size medium. It worked though my chest was somewhat ready to to abandon the top. The medium would work fine for night but might be a little much for day. Smaller-busted ladies will probably be fine to size down in this otherwise roomy top. Larger-busted ladies like me may need to size up.

Though the top is double-layered I was annoyed to see that the back of the halter is not, so I could clearly see my bra strap. Way to cheap out at the end there. Wishlisted anyway, color to be determined later.

Definitely the teal in the Dewbud tee!! Thanks for posting that and the Chantico Tank…seeing you in them (I have a similar body shape to yours, and teal is also my colour) convinced me I must buy both.

    I vote for teal, too!

  3. March 5, 2010 / 1:19 pm

I like the navy better, especially since, opposed to teal, it's a color that can be worn almost year round.

I am totally biased because teal is one of my favorite colors, but I think it looks super flattering on you with your skin tone and hair color. And it would be a fun, bright top for your Mexican getaway!I also liked how the grecian-style top looked on you, but I think the cheaping out on the backside fabric detracts from the overall value. What are you supposed to do–wear a little cardi over the top? IMO, Grecian, drapey-type tops call for bare shoulders and arms… As always, thanks for the reviews!

Oh, the teal for SURE! I love it with the yellow skirt, even.

The teal gets my vote!aldjalkjsdljaf I need that Chantico top in pink. Need. That is exactly my /favorite color/ (it may or not actually look good on me, but I don't care). I will have to try it on to see how bad the sheerness in the back is. I'm relieved that even the white doesn't seem sheer in the front, so maybe? Please, please, work on my small chest and don't be too sheer, top! (What does it say about me that I have 10-15 items on my wishlist now that are in basically the same pink color family?)

Normally, I am a teal fan – but I really love this one in the navy – to me it looks more expensive…

  8. March 5, 2010 / 2:15 pm

Teal definitely in the Dewbud tee! The color really pops on you. I also really love the Chantico Tank on you and I never would have guessed you were fair skinned. It makes you look really tan. I can't wait to try it on in pink. Also, I finally decided to start my own blog yesterday, so you should come visit! Youmeandanthropologie.blogspot.com

I struggle with the same thing–I have colors that are prominent in my closet and it seems I keep going back to them.My opinion is, get the turquoise. The detail makes it different than just any old turquoise top, and it just speaks to me as a more fun and creative color. (It's one of my colors, too.) I wasn't digging the navy color paired with the style when I saw it online. Both look good on you, but the turquoise/teal is definitely more "you" and more fun.

Ooh, tough one… I think the navy is v. classy (and might be more versatile) but teal is beautiful, more eye-catching and so fun! This may sound silly, but if I were making the decision, it would probably come down to which color made my eyes stand out/matched more of my jewelry (in which case, it would def. be the teal.)My .02.

The teal Dewbud tee looks awesome on you! I'd get that one.

  12. March 5, 2010 / 2:54 pm

Both colors look awesome on you. I would go with the Teal just because the color is more springy/summery

  13. March 5, 2010 / 2:54 pm

I vote for the teal as well! I am currently lusting over that top myself! And I love your necklace in these pics. Where is it from?

  14. March 5, 2010 / 2:58 pm

TEAL all the way! Such a pretty summer color for a summer blouse 😉 I have a ton of teal too- but this one is special!Jamie: I wear teal all year round 😉

  15. March 5, 2010 / 3:15 pm

I like the teal dewbud tee too. I noticed that eshaikti website has a twin to the four points camisole: color block satin topIt seems they only have pink though.

  16. March 5, 2010 / 3:47 pm

Thanks for all the opinions ladies! Looks like teal is the clear winner, though if this top makes it to sale I think the navy will find a home in my closet too. Allie S, I agree that the navy looks classy, almost like summer dressed up. :)I also realize now I should have snapped a photo of the back of the Chantico Tank. I'll try to add one this weekend.Katie – it says, Anthropologie is doing a lot of pink!! (I have the same issue if it makes you feel any better, but with blue all over my wishlist.)

  17. March 5, 2010 / 3:48 pm

I'll just chime in on the teal Dewbud and can't wait to try it on myself! Thanks for the great reviews as always.

    Definitely the teal.

  19. March 5, 2010 / 4:35 pm

LOL Roxy, I keep fantasizing about buying all the pink things on my wishlist, putting several of them in the same outfit, and being a giant cupcake of overwhelming pinkness. (Chantico Tank + that pink sailor pencil skirt + tulip slingbacks, hahaha, how faux pas of me!) I have a love affair with pink, especially pastel pink, though I'm trying to break out of the mold and buy, you know, other colors. Luckily I am too poor to make this a reality any time soon. 😉

  20. March 5, 2010 / 4:43 pm

I'm partial to the teal Dewbud Tee myself. I love a pop of color like that (and it looks great on you – I can understand why it's "your" color).I also really like the Chantico Tank on you. I was curious to see that on – the length is nice. I am tempted to try it myself!

  21. March 5, 2010 / 5:00 pm

Definitely Teal Roxy….it looks great on you! 🙂

    TEAL!

  24. March 5, 2010 / 5:38 pm

Get both! I love how both looks on you. But, I would probably get the teal now, and buy the navy on sale.

  25. March 5, 2010 / 6:06 pm

RoxyI love the teal the color looks great on you! i say go for it

  26. March 5, 2010 / 6:31 pm

definitely the teal…the navy looks somewhat sailor-ish to me…

  27. March 5, 2010 / 6:50 pm

Oh the teal for sure! I don't think navy works with the style and season of the top nearly as well. And it is -definitely- your colour.

  28. March 5, 2010 / 7:06 pm

Now I want the Dewbud Tee… in teal, of course. 😉 Seeing it on the model, I thought the shirt was okay but seeing it on a girl with a curvier figure, the shirt really stands out especially the detailing. I really like it!

  29. March 5, 2010 / 7:30 pm

I liked the darker color (it looked more purple to me!) for dark haired girls, but the blue was really beautiful too!I just returned from the Rockefeller Center store a couple of hours ago. I love this top but it definitely is larger! My problem with the top was the extra material near the v-neck (the white lining) kept folding on me. Maybe I should try it in a smaller size.

  30. March 5, 2010 / 7:47 pm

The teal color looks fabulous on you!

  31. March 5, 2010 / 8:33 pm

The teal gets my vote, the color is really pretty on you! OT, Roxy, do you have any styling tips for the tweed & chiffon dress for a night out and a daytime/night look for the staysail shirt dress in black? Thanks much!!!

Roxy, I love the sailing hobbyist skirt but I have a really hard time figuring out what to wear with skirts (I own NONE). Do you think you could style it? I would be much obliged! 🙂 As for the teal vs. navy I am torn. The navy is very classy and I'm into navy right now but teal is bright and fun. I say get the teal now and navy later.

Hey Roxy, I just got the Blushing Mercury Heels in the mail (they are on my feet as I type :D) they are just stunning!!! I think I just found my most favorite pair heels.

  34. March 5, 2010 / 9:33 pm

Traci & couchpapaya- sure, but just to warn you it's going to be a while before I am able to get to the stylings. Sorry. :(Stephanie – awesome! Lovely pickup.

I can wait it out. 🙂 I don't own it yet anyway!

  36. March 5, 2010 / 10:57 pm

Another vote for teal! Especially with that yellow skirt! 😉

  37. March 5, 2010 / 11:38 pm

It seems like others have voted the same way that I would… I like both colors. I think that the navy is more versatile but also a little on the "nautical" side. The teal is more unique, so I would probably go with that one.

  38. March 6, 2010 / 12:11 am

I like the teal on you. I think it is great for spring :D.

  39. March 6, 2010 / 12:16 am

    Thanks Roxy, I can wait!

the dewbud tee is pretty, but i wish i could start a petition about the too-cleavage-revealing necklines. no matter how much i like the style, if it shows cleavage, i can only wear it with certain bras and i can't wear it to most of the places i go, i end up wearing it rarely or not at all. there are so many items at anthro i've passed on from that reason. *cries*the dewbud tee also reminds me of the hooked yarns tee from a while back.

  41. March 6, 2010 / 2:54 am

teal!and the chantico tank looks great on you 🙂

Just an FYI about Bailey44's pricing: I noticed that the two tops I have by them are made in the U.S. I wonder if that's true of all their items. If so, then the garments are made by a union worker who makes a living wage and probably has health insurance rather than in a sweatshop overseas–just something to consider. (I have absolutely no ties to anthro or bailey44, btw.)I just recently discoverd your blog, Roxy, and thank you for your reviews. They're very helpful. (And I vote for the teal, too!) 🙂

  43. March 6, 2010 / 1:46 pm

Taryn – I love the yellow skirt pairing too! And I just happen to own one that's very similar…Anon @ 8:33P – I am with you. Often tops that would look OK on smaller busts end up looking cartoonish on me and if they're low cut forget it. I am all for low-cut tops for going out (within reason of course) but for day it feels unfair.Anon @ 8:44A – Welcome to the community! 🙂 You have an excellent point. I have mentioned this before but I am all for paying more for an item designed and produced here in the USA. It's something that's very important to me. Unfortunately in this case the top was made in China.

  44. March 6, 2010 / 1:46 pm

Make that Anon @ 7:45A. I'm clearly still waking up. 😉

Melissa, sorry I missed your question earlier! The 3-tier pearl necklace was a gift I got several years ago and I honestly could not tell you where it came from. The necklace in the top shot I bought in Hawaii from a local crafter on the Big Island.

Hey Roxy, I was wondering what you thought of the Hedy Platforms? the fit? While I was reading the comments last night on the Trade Market someone said a size 9 popped up online, I added them in my cart *crossing my fingers someone would buy before I did since my budget is blown* This morning it was still there so I bought them, I couldn't resist.

Sorry not the trade market, I meant the community post

  48. March 6, 2010 / 3:15 pm

Stephanie, I have not tried the Hedys on. I like the look of them a lot. They're Miss L Fire I believe…my City Siren Heels are also Miss L Fire and I took my true size. They seem very well made. I think you'll love them!

Stephanie –The hedy heels are fantastic. I really don't think you'll regret them. For some reason I've really taken to wearing them with my fifth form shift. And they are pretty comfy so congrats!
