Reviews: Sprinkled & Shined Tank, Pitter-Patter Blouse, Silk Obi Blouse, Blacklight Blouse

Don’t mean to be rude Ms. Model
but uhh, you have something in your hair.

It looks like my chest exploded sequins. That is the only way to describe the Sprinkled & Shined Tank ($128) from Saivana. It’s clear that my chest is not sitting where the pattern calls for. Not high enough. So the end result is that I look broad.

Despite not looking good I still like this top. (Just not for me.) The top is made from airy sheer cotton with well-sewn sequins. I love the back with it’s high shoulder ruching. There is a menwear becomes womenswear element here that I really like. The top sat much higher in the front than the back for me. I am majorly sad-facing that this top didn’t work for me but I encourage you to give a try. For reference I tried on a medium.

Bayla Jane’s Pitter-Patter Blouse ($98) comes in two motifs and I tried both on. I was drawn to the work-appropriateness of this top. I love the grey version with its birds and trailing buds. I grabbed the small which was a little large in the front but I would not size down.

My one quibble with this shirt is that the sleeves are cut across in a way that isn’t flattering to my arms. But it’s only a quibble. I was initially drawn to the pink version because it resembles a Rebecca Taylor pattern I like. But while it looks pretty from far away up close the pattern is kind of messy. Like a Monet. On sale I would like to take both home. For now they’re cooling their jets on my wishlist.

I have to admit that I put on Leifsdottir’s Silk Obi Blouse ($198) wrong at first. I had no friggin clue how the shoulders were supposed to sit. A kind SA at the Rockefeller Center Anthropologie helped me out…and well, I’m still not impressed. As one of the online reviewers so eloquently put it, I felt like a kimono quarterback. Holy shoulders Leifsdottir! The product shot does not make it clear how these things sit.

The shoulders are actually a looped piece of fabric that are supposed to wrap around the shoulders, leaving the top part exposed. Unfortunately they’re not big enough so instead they sit on top of your shoulders like a bellhop’s coat. Ridiculous. I tried on an 8 which was loose across my midsection but tight across my hips. Pass, back to the rack.

Last fall I snapped up Odille’s Winged Victory Top (review here) as soon as it was available. If you like the look of the spring version known as the Blacklight Blouse ($78) I suggest you do the same. Especially before Anthro jacks up the price by $10 again. (Not cool Anthro, not cool.)

This top fit me exactly like the Winged Victory Top. The 6 was fine everywhere except across the bust, where the pleats pulled a bit. So the photos above are the 8 which was large everywhere except the bust. The good news is that with the polka dots the pulling is much less noticeable. Even busty women like me might want to give their normal size a shot.

I love the sash on this version! It’s the true lime green I thought the Winged Victory Top would have (that one is a bit less vibrant). Just my opinion but I do feel that the polka dots plus green sash is just a bit much. I’d love an ivory sash for this one. Still I know that this top is going to be a hit. If you missed out last fall now’s your chance.

Love the Pitter-Patter Blouses. Am I the only person who doesn't love Leifsdottir? I keep trying but I haven't found one piece I like. I guess I just don't "get it" especially at those prices. The Blacklight Blouse looks amazing on you! I will have to give it a try during my next trip. Thanks for the reviews!

I love the Blacklight Blouse on you, it's in my cart right, I'll probably grab it at some point because I regretted not trying the Winged Victory Blouse last year, I just hope my size lasts a couple more weeks because after not spending at Anthro and others for a few weeks before last sale I decided to get back on my strict clothing budget again and I pretty much spent my April budget already on last week's sale and Sephora. I like the Pitter-Patter Blouses on you although I prefer the Dark Grey Motif, maybe I'll grab it on sale. BTW did you try the Red Delicious Blouse already, I like the print online and I was thinking of buying next time.

I thought that Bayla Jane top was incredible in person! I am itching for it again now that you reviewed it. Thanks for the insight, Roxy!

the SA brought me the blacklight blouse (first time one has suggested something, and i'm so glad she did), and i thought it was the top i'd seen on you! now i realize that was last fall. anyway, it is really cute. i'm kind of sad i missed out on the solid one, though.

Oh gawd. I'm about this close to ordering the Blacklight blouse. THANKS A LOT, ROXY. :PI love the print to the Leifsdottir blouse, but yeah- what were they thinking with those shoulders?!

ditto your review on the obi blouse! came right off my wishlist after i tried it on in person. my shoulders are on the wide side, so they didn't even lay on top! i looked like i had pointed triangles growing from my shoulders 🙁 too bad, because the fabric and the rest of it is beautiful. if the shoulder pieces were longer (or gone entirely), it would have been tempting.

Really sad to hear all of these negative reviews about the Silk Obi blouse–probably for the best though (as far as my wallet is concerned anyway). The silk is so beautiful, though! I wish Leifsdottir would use the print for other pieces (like a dress–oh I wish!).
