Reviews: Buoyant Bunches Cardi, Button Bin Cardi, Blooming Lattice Cardi, Crossroads Tee, Curlytop Cardigan

Lately I have found myself in love with long cardigans. I think it’s a personal backlash against the cropped look. I didn’t really notice the Buoyant Bunches Cardi ($78) in the catalogue but at the store I gravitated towards it.

There are two colors available online (grey and the moss I tried on) and a third variant in store (blue striped). The content varies slightly between the colors from a thorough cotton for the grey to a jersey mix for the others.

I tried on a medium. I could have easily sized down to a small but I didn’t want to. This cardigan was so comfortable from the moment I put it on I had a hard time taking it off at all. I found it slimming and elongating. It will be one of those pieces I leave at the office to combat the air conditioning and keep a second at home. As I mentioned this morning the most recent outfit set shows the cardi belted and it’s a great option. This one came home with me.

Girls from Savoy’s Button Bin Cardi ($98) has a promising concept — an adorable print sure to please over dresses or paired with skirts. While I think the button print works on the body of the cardigan, I find the faux button trim looks cheap around the collar.

I had to size up to a large for this cardi. I find that cropped cardigans fit me wonky. The length on this one isn’t too bad, hitting me at high waist. But the material is thin which gives me concern and the actual buttons on the placket look cheap. Then again, you could completely reject my take given the overwhelmingly positive online reviews. For me, back to the rack.

I have a confession to make — last week was Anthropologie’s Employee Appreciation week and a friend offered to help me take advantage. So my buy total was way up. Another piece I gave in on was the Blooming Lattice Cardigan ($98). I am such a Field Flower by Wendi Reed fan as the quality is good. And while I just bought the From the Green cardi a little while ago on sale I think the collar is different enough here to justify the purchase.

I tried on the large and found it to fit comfortably, though a bit big. The medium was fine but pulled a bit across my chest so I went with the upper size. I love the snap closures. The petals on the color are actually tinged with pink which is a brilliant touch. No sheerness issues and the material feels soft against the skin. I want the navy color too if this sweater makes it to sale. For now the green came home with me.

I gave C. Keer’s Crossroads Tee ($68) a go based on the stunning green color. (Yes, I love me some green!) In-store this top was also available in a beautiful royal purple and an espresso brown color.

I tried on my usual medium but it didn’t quite work out. The shirt was fine over my chest — hallelujah — but was pulling across the tummy. A large would probably be my final choice. Oddly a few of the online reviews say this top runs large. I suppose that if you’re a straight shape that will be the case but curvier gals like me will want the additional accommodations. This shirt is a little sheer as you can see my white cami showing through. This is due to the wide knit.

I love the faux wrap styling and thick cabling. The length is another plus for me. Wishlisted!

Tien first alerted me to the Curlytop Cardigan ($98) and oh my I love it! The intricate stitching and not-overpowering ruffles are pretty droolworthy in my book. It’s like the women’s version of a sport jacket; a cardigan for all seasons and purposes.

I was immediately comfortable in my true size medium and seriously debated bringing this one home before realizing my budget was already spent. This one has a spot high on my wishlist. I can see it being dressed up or down, worn now and later.

The Blooming Lattice Cardi is so cute! I'm glad that you were able to take advantage of your friend's discount. I'm counting down the days until May, when I'll (hopefully) have a birthday discount!

I think you're right about the Button Bin Cardi – the idea is good but in reality it doesn't quite work.I'm so pleased that the Blooming Lattice Cardi worked on you – shall have to live vicariously!

I got the blooming lattice cardi in blue. Love that cardi so versatile. You are right about Button bin cardi. Looks cute on website and on the hanger. But when I tried it on I felt like I stole a toddler's cardigan. Too sheer and not worth the price.

Love that green top on you!!!

I love the Blooming Lattice Cardigan on you! It didn't wow me when I tried it on in green, but I think I'm gonna go back and try the navy.

I think the Bouyanat Bunches looks great on you, it does elongate your body. I'm glad you bought it. I also bought the Blooming Lattice in green and the Button Bin Cardi. I already look like I'm still a kid, so I'm okay with that. I do like the Curlytop, but I may go for the Edana instead. Thanks for the reviews!

The Buoyant Bunches cardigan looks super. What did you think about the Meeting Place striped top underneath? I ordered it but am just still unsure!

I love the Curlytop Cardi. I really should have bought it today, but spent my budget on the Pearly Glow Tank and a pair of SPENDY cropped jeans that I didn't look at the price tag of until I tried them on and completely LOVED the way my behind looked in them. Sigh… What are you wearing for a cardi over your Pearly Glow Tank? (I only tried it on because you loved it so, then once I did, I was hooked – it is so SOFT!)

Roxy… what did you think of the Meeting Place Tank, (under the Buoyant cardi)? It looks delicious and so Little Yellow Button. I'm digging the stripes eveno though I just bought the striped pursuit top, I could go for the casual tank. Any thoughts…

roxy- i'm sure you've mentioned this before, but what jeans do you wear? they always seem to fit perfectly!

Oh the Blooming Lattice is darling! You look awesome in green, I'm glad you grabbed it!

ohhh….love comfy cardigans. and i hear you about needing to leave one in the office. why they air-condition so much, even in summer, is beyond me. i used to feel like mr rogers w/ my lineup in my cube.interesting, what is anthropologie employee appreciation week?and just curious, but what's the norm for ya'll's clothing (and by clothing, i really mean anthropologie :D) budgets?

With the exception of the Button Bin Cardi, I love every single one of these items on you! I really want the Blooming Lattice Cardigan, but I just bought the Star Sprinkled Cardi (um, $50?, yes, please!). I wish I could afford to take home the Blooming Lattice, too.

Lola – Are you already planning your birthday haul??!?!? Lord knows I planned mine out about, oh, three months in advance. ;)Hometown Queen – hee, I shall wear it in both of our honours. Or something like that.ellie22 – great choice on the blue, I really did struggle in choosing a color. I hope the cardi makes it to sale so I can justify picking up the navy. Thanks Georgine! How are you doing mama?Sara – give the navy a shot, I can see you incorporating it into a fabulous OOTD. :)Gemma – Hahaha, I love your take on the Button Bin Cardi. The Edana Cardi is great, though it didn't work on me, I still love it.Anon @ 9:16 – have not seen it in person yet but I just love it from the website. Please come back and let us know how it works out for you! I think it will be a winner.Denise – which crops did you get? I am looking at the AGs myself. As of now I plan to wear one of my J.Crew twilit stripe cardis from last fall over the pearly glow tank. But I see a bunch of Anthro cardis that could work over it…the Field Game Cardigan, the Statuesque Cardigan, possibly the Cattleya Cardi…marie – see my comment to Anon @ 9:16 above. I hope to see the tank in-store when I visit Soho — I'm dying to try it on at this point. :)Ade – this post is a combo of couple of store visits. So in some of the shots I have Gap Long & Leans on and in some I have my Lucky Sweet N'Lows on. Just FYI, Lucky has changed the cut of the Sweet N'Lows since I got these and they don't fit me as well now.Jan Russell – thank you! It's true, I live for green. shares – Anthropologie employees get a store discount (like most retail employees). Every so often the discount is bumped up for a week. I think it's a great way to give back, and it makes me green with envy.On the topic of clothing budget, mine is usually 3/4 of my discretionary budget for the month. I've been staying under that lately…til this month anyway.Tien – Oh, I bet the Star Sprinkled Cardi looks fab on you! Let's do the sale dance for the Blooming Lattice together when the time is right.

Adventures in Dressmaking, my jaw just hit the floor. Your diy looks INCREDIBLE.

Roxy…but aren't you wearing the meeting place tank in your pic with the Buoyant Bunches? The stirped bluse with the side gather? Underneath the cardi…? If not, what top is that? it totally looks cute.

  17. April 14, 2010 / 2:42 am

Blooming Lattice cardi looks amazing on you! I was in antrho briefly and was able to just touch the Crossroads Tee…I was surprised by how thick it was. I'm not sure it would work for spring in the deep south!

**blush**, marie, you're right, I am! LOL. I had it confused with another top, my apologies. I'll have a full review on Thursday. Short version is I liked how it looked from the side but didn't find it super flattering from the front.CS12 – I agree, I should have mentioned that in the review. I'm surprised the top didn't come out earlier in the year.

I wasn't a fan of the Button Bin cardi either…and not to be an enabler, but you NEED the Curlytop Cardi. One, it looks amazing, and two, I have worn mine at least twice a week since I got it when it first appeared online. It's definitely versatile!

  20. April 14, 2010 / 3:45 am

very cute and who doesn't love a discount no matter where it comes from! yipee for your you! i have my birthday coupon that I can not wait to use soon! xoxoKC

Excellent choice on the Blooming Lattice Cardi in green (and I'm not just saying that because I bought the same cardi in the same color ;)…I wore mine the other day with my new mint green Picture Frame Blouse and I think they looked very cute and vintage together with a pencil skirt. Definitely like your take on the rest of the cardigans…I also wasn't impressed with the Button Bin Cardi…the pattern seemed to end before the seams under the arms…strange.

  22. April 14, 2010 / 4:08 am

Hey Roxy,Just wondering what's the pink top you're wearing under the Blooming Lattice and Curlytop Cardigans?

  23. April 14, 2010 / 11:32 am

Coco – hee, enable away! I have a friend I sometimes trade clothing with and I'm trying to convince her she needs the cardi so I can swipe it!letterstobetsy – agreed, coupons/discounts are the stuff shoppers' dreams are made of. maureen – that is odd about the Button Bin Cardi. I didn't notice that on the one I tried on. I love the outfit you put together for the Blooming Lattice cardigan!Christine – It's a camisole from American Eagle that's a couple of years old. I don't see anything similar on their site at the moment but here's something similar at Old Navy.Chayya – agreed!

Out of curiosity (and if it's inappropriate to ask, I apologize) but how's the discount for an Anthro SA? I've always wondered…I bought the Blooming Lattice in green thanks to a birthday gift card, and it's amazing! Got so many compliments and it works well with so much! It looks fantastic on you (and I agree about the leaves; they're just adorable)!I wonder if the Curlytop will make it to sale… I lurve the grey, but can in no way justify the full price. I see a sale dance in my future…PS Did anyone else notice that the Through-the-Clouds Tank is now available in pink, too? I wonder if those will make it to store!susie.q[at]sbcglobal.net

Ohhhh Roxy – the Obscured Oleander Cardigan is going to be mine – even at full price. I saw it this morning just before I read the comments here, so great minds think alike!! I haven't seen it in store, but it would be PERFECT with the Pearly Glow tank and my, gulp, yes AG crops. I don't normally spend more than $90 on denim, but these crops are truly amazing. I look 10 pounds slimmer. Something about the way they are dyed makes me look so lean. People in the Anthro comments section are buying them a size smaller, but I found my true size to be an awesome fit and certainly wouldn't want them any snugger. Let me know if you get them!!

I'm in LOVE with the Blooming Lattice Cardi, the Crossroads Tee, and that Curlytop Cardigan. And I love the way they all look on you. I think I have a thing for green as well..also speaking of cropped jeans I really REALLY want a pair of the Joe's raw hem kicker in Ryder wash-but I can't decide which size I need-my 27' Joe's provacateurs in Ryder fit great at first, then stretch out so much it's ridiculous, I tried the 27 in the kickers and they fit great, but I would need to belt them…then I tried on the 26's and I could get them on, and buttoned, but it was a little obscene and good luck sitting down or bending down in them at all….so tight on the legs and calves omg!!!

Hey,Just a quick tip… I work at Anthro and I would be careful about spreading the word about cashing in on someone else's discount. That is grounds for getting your friend fired and you don't want to put her at risk. Eeep.Oh and for those interested, the discount for staff is 40% on clothes and accessories and 25% on home and garden. No discount on sale stuff. During employee appreciation however it is 40% off everything including sale. Not a bad place to work either.
