Reviews: Meeting Place Tank, Bolero Cowlneck, Ludi V-Neck, Topstitch Tank

How many different takes on stripes can you have in one season? Anthropologie seems to be going for the record with its Spring 2010 collection. Much like my insatiable desire for ruffles last year, this year I say keep the stripes coming!

My latest excursion into the land of nautical is little yellow button’s Meeting Place Tank ($58). What’s at the meeting place you ask? Felted and fringed appliques as Anthropologie puts it. They are a cute adornment and I like the green circle for a little contrasting color. I wish the appliques had been solid instead of striped though, as from a distance it just looks like I’m oblivious to the fact that my shirt got caught on something.

I grabbed my true size medium to try on. While I think the shirt looked spectacular from the side I’m not happy with the front view. The angle of the pleats over my chest makes it look like the shirt is pulling and the stripes across my hips make me look wide. I tried on a large and found it to be very baggy so it’s not a sizing issue, I just think the style of this shirt doesn’t suit me. I like it but not on me. Back to the rack.

C. Keer’s Bolero Cowlneck ($58) has a beautiful medallion right smack in the Care Bear Stare area. The medium fit closely but was comfortable. The shoulders are cut just right to avoid flabby arm look and the length is perfect on my 5’8″ frame.

My one issue is that the print was off-center as you can see in the left shot. Not sure if this is a lone printing error or what but it was distracting. Distracting enough that I decided not to buy this shirt. I’ve wishlisted it but I’ll want to select the top I buy in person to make sure the centering is right.

I just adore my Labyrinthine Tee from 2008’s fall collection but I wish I’d bought it in more colors. So my hopes were high for their 2010 evolution, the Ludi V-Neck ($48). I was feeling adventurous so I grabbed the orange color in a small.

I wasn’t thrilled with this top on. There is something wonky with the midsection — a friend who has also tried the top has reported the same. Seems like no matter what size you are it bunches and puckers in a non-flattering fashion. Too bad because the idea of this shirt is fantastic. Execution falls short though so this one was a no-go.

Project Alabama has found a shape they like and they’re sticking to it! This is the 3rd or 4th v-neck tank top I’ve seen from them and while the neckline adornments and pattern changes the shape is ever the same. No complaints from me though since the shape works well on my figure.

This is the Topstitch Tank ($78) and it’s a grey base with a green-based print on top. From the front this top works for work; I could throw it over a skirt and be ready to go. The exposed stitching and zipper in the back take it down a notch though. The zipper is huge and it rubbed against my back somewhat. I could see that being uncomfortable after a long day of sitting. My true size medium was the perfect fit. This one is wishlisted.

The Topstitch tank looks great on you, Roxy.I'm also in love with stripes and ogled the Meeting Place tank but am staying away. I just got the striped Curated tee and though they are totally different, I think I'm finally striped out.

I love your comment about the Meeting Place Tank looking as though it's gotten caught in something! Sometimes I don't think the designers actually have any common sense…Topstitch one looks great on you though!

The Cowlneck is so cute, but that's really weird that the pattern is askew – I wonder if you just tried on a bad one?I tried on the Ludi v-neck this weekend too (in orange, great minds!) but I really liked it. I'm always a fan of the fabric bunching so it doesn't look like I am! I'm working on that review right now to post this afternoon!

I've sort of wondered this for a while, so I figured I'd ask – What do you mean when you say "true size"? How do you determine what your "true size" actually is? I know what range of sizes typically fit me, but I usually have to go up or down for different manufacturers, which seems to be the case for everyone else as well.

xine – I think the general idea is that we all have a jumping off point for sizes. I don't walk into the store and grab a shirt in sizes 4-14 and head into the fitting room. More often than not, I know that an 8/Medium fits so that's where I start and then size up or down accordingly. HTH!

I see, I guess what I was asking was if the "true size" thing was based off some measurements, like maybe the Anthropologie size chart? Maybe I'm over-thinking it. hahaha

Ooh, like the Topstitch tank from the front 🙂 But agreed, the exposed zipper in the back seems to make it what seems like a homey, feminine shirt more… grunge? Not sure.LOL your comment about the Care Bear Stare belly 🙂 At first I liked the neckline (i'm a sucker for cowlneck anything), but that belly medallion does attract quite a bit of attention 😀

Thank you Lisa! The Curated Tee is growing on me, I did not think it would flatter curves but turns out it does…Hometown Queen – hee! Hopefully that doesn't sound mean.Marianne – aww, thanks. *blush*Kathleen – yes, I think I did just land the odd one out as I swung by today and all the other cowlnecks looked fine. Just my luck!xine – exactly what Kathleen said. It's more of a gut (heh) feeling than anything with facts behind it.Jesspgh – danke!gigiofca – hahahahaha, oh I do rock out sometimes. ;)shares – grunge is the right word I think. I like the look for the weekend but I'm sad because it would be more versatile as a work top for me. I already have enough weekend tops!Stephanie – hmm, I guess I'll have to reconsider. Thanks for letting me know.TGA – why thank you, I was very happy with how it looked. 🙂
