Reviews: Ribbon Boa Tank, Crayon Wings Top, Diamond Light Tank, Ambling Twists Tank, Patches & Petals Tank

Well hello, twisty knotted Deletta tee.

I have my eyes set squarely on the green Chantico Tank ($88, review here) but wouldn’t you know that Deletta’s Ambling Twists Tank ($48, above) snuck its way into my shopping bag first. The twists and knots remind me of a recent Robert Rodriguez dress and you know I can never say no to green.

This one has a different Deletta imprint in it and it looked a little tighter than usual to me so I stuck to my true size medium. This was a good move as the medium was a comfortable fit. I think the small would have had to stretch too much. The asymmetric knot bugs me a bit but I love how this tank looks on. It’s soft with slightly heathered material. The cotton poly mix has plenty of coverage with thick straps. Unable to resist, I bought this top home with me. It’s maybe a bit heavy for summer. I walked to work in this one and I was sweating by the time I got to the office.

After making fun of it, I had to give the Small Intestinal Tract Tank Ribbon Boa Tank ($68) a try. Ladies and gentlemen, it has no reviews on the website! And really, what can one say about ribbon randomly stitched onto a tank top? Congratulations McGinn, you’ve graduated from the J.Crew school of really?!?. I love McGinn, maker of two of my favorite Anthro items ever (the Sweet William Blouse and the Cooling Magma Dress) but this top defies explanation.

Anyhoo, I grabbed a medium and chuckled as I put the top on. The medium was very form-fitting. I would have to size up at least to a large. There’s double-layered raw edge chiffon inside the neckline of the tank and I was annoyed by how sheer it was. Good thing I had a cami on underneath. I can see this as an interesting layering piece under a blazer and paired with trouser jeans. Not at full price though. Wishlisted for further teasing at sale time.

Love is a many-splendored thing. And the Crayon Wings Top ($78) by Edme & Esyllte is one of those splendors. I had ordered this top from Anthropologie’s website but while I was waiting for my package I tried it on in-store. Kathleen had reviewed this top previously so I had an idea of how it would look. My excitement was nearly uncontainable.

I grabbed both a 6 and an 8 to try. Recently I’ve needed to size up in Edme & Esyllte. This time though my usual 6 was a great fit! In fact the fitting room attendant suggested I size down to a 4, which is what I usually wear in this brand. I decided not too because I was afraid a 4 would squish my chest. The top comes with removable straps. I see myself wearing it as a bathing suit cover-up but I like that the straps give me more options. The voile feels very nice and I simply adore the slight pleats over the chest leading to where the trail of buttons are. It’s the little things!

The length is another plus for me. If this top were shorter it wouldn’t work for me. I didn’t buy the top only because it was already on its way to me. Highly recommended.

The Diamond Light Tank (now $30) mysteriously went on sale this morning even though it just came out a few weeks ago. I remember this also happened with the Balcony Tee ($68, review here) when it first came out too. I have no explanation for it; maybe it’s a marketing thing.

I rather like the ivory version of this top. Just…why is it soooo sheer? We’re talking see-through here. C. Keer, what gives? A size small fit fine but looked silly even with a cami underneath. I am left slack-jawed. The top’s little fan neckline is quite well-done and the jewels inset between each tuft are pretty. It’s not overdone, though you could argue it is certain to draw the eye to the bust. Not everyone will like this. Like the Ribbon Boa Tank above I think this is a decent layering top and at $30 I suppose it’s a good price by Anthro standards. Still, I am bothered by the sheerness. Not cool.

Ric Rac! You are my most favorite-st Anthro brand, so when I saw that the Patches & Petals Tank ($78) was your doing I immediately grabbed a small and trotted downstairs to try it on. (And anthropomorphized the brand, apparently.) I think this top is going to have too much going on for some Anthro fans and I can see why. You’ve got a beautiful base print but then there’s a polka dot print, a small leafy print and little strips of the Drenched Helenium Tee print all tuxedo’ed down the middle. I found it to be pretty awesome. It’s not overly voluminous and the little bow is just perfect.

I would not argue with a version of this top that was simpler, maybe with just the bow and the base print. However I also love the top as it is. I didn’t buy it so I could stay on budget but this one is sitting in my cart, ready to ride along on my next order.

Oh my. Why wishlisting the boa tank?! Completely agree- it's awful! The crayon top was a good choice. It looks great on you and I even think it looks nice paired with the skirt you tried it on with.

Hi Roxy,Do you think the true color of the Ambling Twists tank is more like the color shown on you or on the website? The website looks more pea colored and yours looks more grassy green! Thanks 🙂 BTW, it looks great on you!!
