Take it easy, take it easy.
Don’t let the sound of your own
wheels hooves make you crazy.

The fashion gods have smiled upon us. A couple of years ago Nanette Lepore made a very similar skirt to the Surging Springs Skirt ($88). When I first spotted this in-store I assumed the skirt was a reissue of sorts by Ms. Lepore, but it’s actually by Coquille. The cascading tiers of ruffles are impossible to resist. It was grabby hands and maniacal cackles all the way to the fitting room. It’s a shame this skirt only comes in navy. I’d love to see it in red (can you tell I’m obsessed with red this year?) and dark green.

I tried on a 10, which was pretty loose in the waist but just right across the hips. At this point I think my new size at Anthro is now a 10 in skirts. Yay. The length of this skirt was perfect, skimming the tops of my knees. I like that the ruffles do not continue onto the back of the skirt. I can only imagine the mess that would be at the end of the day. I also appreciate the concealed zipper. Exposed zips are cool but not very practical for work. This skirt is easy to walk in thanks to a back slit. I just wish the front ruffles were not polyester. I suppose it keeps the price down — a sub $100 skirt is a rarity at Anthro these days. This one didn’t even make it to my wishlist. I bought it immediately.

Tracy Reese’s Easy Keeper Skirt ($138) has a lot of visual interest, from the layers of tulips to the vivid orange and blue colors within. The website material composite makes me laugh — acrylic, wool, polyester and other fibers? Other fibers? Um, scary.

I headed into the fitting room with a 10. As others have noted, the waistband was huge. So much so that it was sitting away from my body, but sizing down to an 8 wasn’t really an option. Easy to fix at a tailor but an odd quirk to the piece. I was happy with the length of this skirt though I wouldn’t complain if the tulip slit was set off-center. I found that the skirt rode up as I walked around the fitting room bullpen. I can see myself having to pull it down throughout the day, which is annoying. This skirt feels heavy, which will be great come winter but is too much for me right now. Wishlisted, but waiting for sale.

Cartonnier’s Feathered Perch Skirt ($148) is a long circle skirt in a classic silhouette. The feather plume at the waistline adds a touch of whimsy that one expects from Anthro.

An 8 fit me comfortably. The skirt feels like a middle range men’s suit and has the same color. The plume is beautiful! And I liked the silhouette quite a bit. This skirt, though voluminous, is also slimming. I found the length odd — you don’t see many mid-calf skirts these days. It’s not the length I go for but I can see someone with a retro sense of style doing amazing things with this piece. I love that Anthro is offering something like this even if it isn’t quite my cup of tea.

The Spitalfields Skirt ($78) feels like velvet and has a touch of edge to it with two drop-chain pockets. Taikonhu does mod! The golden yellow color already has a sizable presence in my closet but of course I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to try this skirt on.

My usual size 10 was created some pull across the hips. But it was very loose in the waist so I would not size up. The two seams across the front trick the eye into seeing thin which I appreciate. What I found most odd was the way this skirt flattened my butt into a long pancake of sorts. I have never seen anything like it! I couldn’t help myself from laughing at the odd sight. I’d rather the normal roundness. Cute, but a pass.

Sanctuary’s Hay Ride Shorts ($88) are hiding out in the pants section of Anthro’s website. I’m glad to see they’re doing cold weather shorts again and I hope to see a few more options, though these brown tweeds are instant love for me.

I reached for my usual size 31 which fit well. They’re a couple of inches shorter than I’d like for work. I’d worry about the control top part of my tights creeping below the hemline. But they are a fantastic herringbone and I love the back flap pockets. The thing is, you can easily find shorts just like this for 1/3 the price at H&M. I would rather support Anthro but the price isn’t quite right. Wishlisted for further consideration at sale time.
