It’s time to dust off the ol’reviews tag! After a few months on the road I’m back in NYC proper with plenty of reviews to share. A one-shot kicks things off on this sale day and I’ll follow up in the morning with an actual reviews set. Excited? I sure am.

The Bookbinder Heels ($168) evoke the kind of librarian chic that many Anthro lovers aspire to. Me? I was just excited about a heel that’s not a stiletto! I love the thicker chunky heel that stabilizes my legs as I walk. In my delight of spotting these at the Rockefeller Center Anthropologie in NYC, it was all I could do not to squeal in glee as I requested my usual size 9.

I often size up in Schuler & Sons due to my high arch, but a 9 fit great in this case. It’s worth noting that the two reviews on Anthro’s product page advise sizing down so if your foot is narrow perhaps try 1/2 a size below normal. The toebox is a close fit here so wider set digits won’t be comfortable. The d’orsay style allows for some breathing room at the sides. It took me a second or two to slide my heel in but once my foot was in the shoe it was very comfortable.

The shoe has a wrapped platform that makes the heel feel closer to 3″ than the 3.75″ it is. I had no problem walking around in these. I like that they don’t “click” as I walk — I work on concrete floors and I much prefer the sound of a clomp to click-clack. I do declare these should be comfy for full-day wear.

Color-wise, the leather matches up well to the product shot. Worth noting however is that the leather will show every streak, graze or touch of the shoe rubbing up against something. The pair I tried on was 2 days old to the store according to the SA and already had several light spots. A good leather conditioner or protectant should be used on these shoes right after you buy them. (Saddle soap is always my favorite.)

I am not sure what happened to volumes I-XI, but the volume XII heel sure does look nice. Are these shoes graded like armor where volume supplants Mark as the denotation of evolution? I can’t say either way but I can say that these shoes are wishlisted!! A noteworthy entry in Anthro’s encyclopedia of shoe designs.

Have you seen the Bookbinder Heels yet? I know a few of you ordered them! Have they arrived yet?
