Coat check: Free People

It’s buttons all the way down on the Military Fur Trench ($750).

Each Fall, I look forward to seeing what delicious coats and jackets will appear on the Free People website. Last year, I added a faux fur coat to my closet just in time for New Year’s Eve. What will be the newest addition this year? Inside, some of the early options, like the Military Fur Trench ($750)…

Part practical, part fantastical: the Embellished Military Shirt Jacket ($168).

Many of Free People’s current jacket assortment seem ideal for layering, a la the Embellished Military Shirt Jacket ($168) — because doesn’t everyone wear their navy sequin military jacket over their deep vee white bodysuit? All kidding aside, I love the mix of functional pockets, pretty details on the shoulders and a comfy, loose fit.

It’s not the only military option I like either. The lightweight Hooded Swingy Military Jacket ($148) comes in four colors, including a lovely lilac ash, that suggest wearability as either a shirt or a topper. Then there is the Colorblock Military Parka ($198, below) which seems ready for muddy days traipsing around hiking trails in the fall, and then sitting in front a campfire later toasting s’mores and drinking from a growler.

The longer the Colorblock Military Parka ($198) seems ready to get dirty if needed.

The longer silhouette of the the Colorblock Military Parka ($198) is certainly appealing, as is the length of the prettier Golden Quills Military Parka ($298) which features heavily embroidery-adorned sleeves (tough yet soft!), and the gorgeous Wild Thing Coat ($298) seems like the kind of coat I could wear for the night out and for the long coffee walk the morning after. Most functional of all, I love the buttons and collar on the Sedgwick Peacoat ($298), an option that is longer than your everyday pea.

Channel your inner 70s glam rockstar with the Vegan Moto With Detachable Fur Shawl (248).

The perfectly unreal Vegan Moto With Detachable Fur Shawl (248) is one of many vegan leather options (real leather abounds as well). I absolutely love the faux fur collar, and in fact usually style my own faux leather jacket this way with a faux fur vest. Other fanciful leather and faux leather options include the Star Studded Leather Jacket ($700) which is quite literally emblazoned with metal star beads and the Ashville Vegan Moto Jacket ($168) with its multitude of buttons.

Get your best Axl Rose on with the very late 80s/early 90s appropriate Easy Rider Leather Jacket ($395).

But perhaps the best leather jacket of them all is the simple one, like the Easy Rider Leather Jacket ($395) above perhaps? I can’t stop laughing at how very Guns N’ Roses this is to me, but I can’t deny that I also kind of love it. All it needs is a bandanna…?

Luckily, there is also the smooth Doma Leather Biker Jacket ($500) to drool over. Perhaps honey over white in this case.

More Free People picks on the blog later this week. Have you made any purchases there recently? Tell us the good word.
