Reviews: Urubamba Tank, Saffron Burst Tank, Capeside Top, Sahuarita Blouse, Sparkled Chainlink Shell, Split Narcissus Shell, Floral Squared Shoulder Top, Adorned Whimsy Tank

Note: This is the second of two tops reviews sets today. Check out the first set here.

A tank that’s asking to be worn all summer, in a few different variations. Let’s kick off this reviews set with the top you see above.

Urubamba Tank ($78) by one.september, TTS
style # 24231748; red motif (069), orange (080), yellow (079)
★★★☆☆

The Urubamba Tank ($78) comes in three variations, each with a different pattern and neckline. The red motif version that I tried on has colored stitching within the neckline and a vaguely tribal print. The crochet neckline is on the front of the top only — in the back it’s replaced by a poly yoke of sorts. The top is nice and long, with just enough give to fall over my hips.

I found my usual size medium to work best. The top is comfortable and light, though you will want to inspect this top closely before purchasing. I noticed many tops with loose threads and a few with the beginnings of separation between the neckline and the rest of the shirt. On the yellow version you’ll want to make sure the design is properly centered. This top is nice but didn’t grab me. For now, wishlisted!

Saffron Burst Tank ($98) by Ric Rac, TTS
style # 24670093; grey (004)
★★★☆☆

Ric Rac is back! What the heck is Ric Rac back with?!? Here we have the Saffron Burst Tank ($98), a chiffonlike-topped tank that looks so pretty online and is just kinda weird in real life. It’s a nice long top and I like the contrast of the grey with the red flowers at the neckline. Unfortunately, even after fussing I couldn’t get this top to sit correctly on me.

The medium fit. I think. It’s hard to tell with this roll coming down in front! The back is a heather grey material that is semi-sheer, so you’ll likely want to layer something under this top. That’s kind of annoying. Anthropologie, do not let a great brand like Ric Rac go to waste! This top is udder fail on me. Back to the rack.

Capeside Top ($68) by C. Keer, TTS
style # 24729121; blue motif (049) or red motif (069)
★★★★☆

I seem to recall this being a Ric Rac top, but according to Anthropologie’s website the Capeside Top ($68) is in fact by C. Keer. Maybe the incorrect memory is because this looks like a Ric Rac piece to me mixed with some wishful thinking. This top is a poly mix with a trio of ruffles down the front and slightly wined shoulders. It’s so nice and long, clearing my hips entirely. I am impressed!

The only size left in-store was a small, which clearly doesn’t quite fit me. But I’m sure my usual size medium would. The top is a lovely contrast of blue and white. It truly does delight! This is a much better effort by Ric Rac than the Saffron Burst Tank ($98), and I plan on bringing this top home with me eventually. It will work best for casual days but could be worn to a relaxed work environment as well. Wishlisted!!

Sahuarita Blouse ($158) by Myne, TTS
style # 24836637; purple motif (059)
★★★★☆

The Sahuarita Blouse ($158) looks cool from the front but the back is where it’s truly at. A crocheted web of black elastic is a beautiful sight. From the front the modern diamond print lays in stripes of purple, gold, black and white. The top is slightly cropped, hitting just above my waist.

I tried both a small and a medium. The small cut into my back, causing the sides to puff out. So I stuck with my normal size medium. The neckline is generous but not too revealing. I love the feel of the silk material used in the top (the crochet part is poly). Though pricey, this piece is worth it to me. Purchased and OOTD’ed over on my tumblr and in a recent Readers Outfit set. I’ve styled this top so far with wide leg pants, jeans and denim crops.

Sparkled Chainlink Shell ($138) by Fish Fry, TTS
style # 24790487; black motif (069)
★★★★☆

It was between purchasing the Sahuarita Blouse ($158) above or this Sparkled Chainlink Shell ($138) in-store. We already know the Sahuarita won out but this one came in a close second. If you like bold colors, bolder patterns and sparkles this top is fantastic. I like the duo of patterns on each side of the tuxedo stripe. The middle portion is made of sequins upon sequins, with a pink cherry of sorts on top. The tank is strappy in the front but whole across the back meaning this would be a great shell under blazers or would do well paired with a skirt.

I found a medium to be a good fit. It was a close fit across the hips — not quite as flowy as it looks online. Unlike the Sahurita this top is all poly which is disappointing. Especially given the price point. If you saw this top and didn’t know the price would you guess $138? I would not. And for that reason this top did not win out with me. On sale it’s a go but for now it’s just a wishlist dweller.

Split Narcissus Shell ($78) by We Love Vera, TTS
style # 24620502; gold (070)
★★★★☆

We Love Vera! So great to see this brand back on Anthro’s racks. The Split Narcissus Shell ($78) picks up right where summer left off. This light, airy shell is somewhat sheer (boo) with a beautiful peach…orange…something fruity print. There’s a rounded neckline with a split front and center and cut-ins at the shoulders on the back side.

This top runs large, but I couldn’t size down. Why not, you ask? Well because my usual 6 was just long enough to tuck into pants and a 4 (not shown) wouldn’t have cleared a waistband. So I settled on my usual size even though it’s pretty big. I suppose come summer the extra airflow will be a bonus, right? I saw this top styled very well at the 5th Ave Anthropologie (NYC). That shot is included in my review on Anthro’s product page (I’m the first review on the page as of this posting, roxy from NYC). Unable to wait, this top came home with me in May.

Floral Squared Shoulder Top (now $20), size up
style # 24779134; blue motif (049)
★★★☆☆

In the same family as the Drenched Helenium Tee and the Alstroemeria Tee is the Floral Squared Shoulder Top (now $20), a brilliant explosion of blue with uneven shoulders. I like the idea behind this top a lot — the caged shoulder on one side and the draped option on the other. I also like the length a lot. I’m not sure whether it’s my chest, my hips, or what, but this top seemed unbalanced on me. Like I was going to tip over at any moment. This top is pima cotton which is normally very soft. However there must be some kind of treatment on the top; it’s not soft at all. It feels rather slippery.

My usual size medium was very body-hugging. I think that’s how the top is supposed to be but I’d size up to a large to buy. I don’t think I’ll be buying this top though. While it is very pretty to look at on the hanger I didn’t find it to look very pretty on me. If you prefer your caged shoulders in solids, this top has a cousin in the Squared Shoulder Top (now $30, fits the same).

Adorned Whimsy Tank ($88) by Deletta, size down
style # 24727901; beige (024) or black (001)
 ★★★★☆

Deletta’s Adorned Whimsy Tank ($88) is like an addiction for me. I love this floaty top shape that eases away from the body around the hips. And like a magpie, I like shiny things. So the sparkles in this tank call to me from across the store. And they say: TRY ME ON. This top is a mix of all sorts of synthetic fibers with some metallic fibers thrown in for shiny effect. (Mmmm, metal.) Two thin straps run over each shoulder and I’m impressed that they hit just wear bra straps do, so when I wear a brown bra with this top they all blend together over my shoulders.

Your sizing in this top will depend on how flowy you want it. I decided I wanted a slightly less flowy fit so I sized down to a small for these photos. The top is comfortable but a little itchy. The straps are not adjustable and in the back the tank just barely clears my bra. Still, I’m in love.

Because I think the shots with a skirt aren’t the best…

…here’s how the top looks with jeans. These are my magical Gap 1969 Long and Lean Jeans which fit my curves perfectly. (I buy these in the long inseam.) With a blazer or cardigan over the top a lean silhouette is created and I am a happy gal. Needless to say, this top came home with me back in April when I tried it on.

More reviews are on tap! Do you own any of these pieces? If so, I’d love to know how you style them!
