Reviews: Pintuck Peplum Blouse, Freestone Tank, Ruffle-Crossed Scoopneck, Pindot Chambray Shirt, Different Stripes Blouse, Sea Drift Tank, Mixed Bouquet Blouse, Woven Window Top

We’ll cover the Pindot Chambray Shirt ($88) today
and the River School Skirt ($98) in an upcoming reviews set.

It’s tops part two below. In case you missed it, part one ran earlier today and can be found here. This time around we’ll cover a few sale tops, a couple of new ones and some others that caught my eye in-store. A few of these are reviews by request. And don’t forget about the 25% off all sale clothing promotion which runs through July 8!

Pintuck Peplum Blouse (now $40), TTS
style # 24565301; pink (066), blue (040), ivory (011)
Also available in green polka dot (now $40), style # A24565301
★★★★☆

The best thing about the Pintuck Peplum Blouse (now $40) is its softness. Though it’s made from rayon it feels like modal to the touch. The top is a simple summer work shirt although the back makes it rather tricky. There’s a large keyhole right where the bra band cuts across, so something with a low set band would be required. It’s a pretty detail though that I like. In the front tuxedo pleating cuts down the top while an elastic band sets the waist. It is also unfortunately sheer.

At full price I wasn’t paying much attention to this top. Now that it’s on sale and $30 after the 25% off discount I’m tempted. I like the way the band defines the waist though I am concerned about it sliding up over the course of the day as a few of the product reviews online reported. The overall length felt good though, and I like that the bottom is slightly a-line without going over the top. For reference I’m in my usual size 6. Wishlisted for now.

The skirt shown here is the Sailing Lace Skirt ($128) by Tabitha which I’ll review soon. You can size down in this — I took an 8 instead of my usual 10.

Freestone Tank (now $30) by Eloise, size down
 style # 24657488; peach (067)
★★★★☆

Another sale top I couldn’t help but notice with my 25% off glasses on was the Freestone Tank (now $30) by Eloise. This simple tank has a small ruffle below a lace top that wraps around both front and (racer)back. It’s a soft cotton that’s opaque. It’s nice and long, hitting low hip. Four buttons trail down the front.

I grabbed a medium initially but found it to be very loose, so I sized down to a small for these shots. I like this as a casual summer option and think it would work well with shorts or a cute skirt. The lace in back is a little annoying because a bra will show through but I guess Anthropologie wants us to either layer or be exhibitionists. Still I couldn’t help bringing this cute top home. It’s sold out online at the moment but still widely available in any store that carries loungewear. I got mine at the Soho (NYC) location which had plenty left on the sale rack.

Ruffle-Crossed Scoopneck ($58) by Left of Center, size down
style # 24874695; mauve (054) or 6 other colors
 ★★★☆☆

If the Freestone Tank had just the right amount of ruffle, then Left of Center’s Ruffle-Crossed Scoopneck ($58) pushes it to the next level. When the top first debuted in the June catalogue I lamented the way it made even the model look bulky. But when I saw it hanging up in-store, I found myself tempted to try it on. It’s such soft cotton that feels so lightweight, yet is not sheer. Two little buttons at the top are a cute detail and the length is great. I’m so happy with all these long tops!

In the fitting room I found a small to fit me better than my usual size medium. The small which you see on me above was more streamlined and the straps on the medium were super long. It’s still pretty bulky even in the smaller size. Also, there’s a weird slit in the back ruffle that I hadn’t noticed online. Not sure why that design choice. At full price this is a pass for sure. Back to the rack.

Sidenote about the catalogue model: I hope this doesn’t come off as snarking but the model looks very young to me. Like, inappropriately young. It’s more pronounced on some pages than others. I’m a little uncomfortable looking at the shots with her; it makes me feel like I’m flipping through some kid’s yearbook photo book. Just food for thought.

Pindot Chambray Top ($88) by Cloth & Stone, TTS
style # 25187964; sky (045)
★★★☆☆

Everything old is new again! As polka dots continue to rule the roost stores are coming out with everything dotted: jeans, skirts, tops, you name it. Last year Anthropologie’s Traced & Tabbed Buttondown (review here) gave us a great button-down option and this year we’ve got the Pindot Chambray Top ($88) for consideration. This year’s vintage is significantly thinner than last year’s though that’s a good thing; last year’s version was more of a fall/winter top. The Pindot Chambray Top is made from slippery tencel which gives the shirt a slight sheen. I have no clue why this top is labeled Elevenses online, unless Cloth & Stone is some offshoot of Elevenses.

The top is comfortably loose with a reverse pleat in back. The sleeves are held up by tabbed buttons and the front placket goes about 3/4 of the way down the shirt. I found my usual size medium to be boxy but fine. Take note if you’re an XL though — several people have reported that the XL runs incredibly small for size. I’m not sure why it’s only affecting XLs but it’s a strange problem that multiple people have noted to me. Overall this is a cute shirt but since I already own one version I’m not likely to get another.

Different Stripes Blouse ($158) by Kaya and Nina Egli, TTS
style # 25514902; orange (089)
★★★☆☆

The print on the Different Stripes Blouse ($158) is so cool! It’s zebras running across the top but in tiger stripes. This is set on a beige base with a circular front collar neckline. Soft voile material makes this easy to touch and maybe just a bit fuzzy. Buttons run down the back  On the hanger this top was too cute to resist.

I tried on my usual size medium which was a nice body-skimming fit but short. Oh so short. I am happy to note that unlike the poor product reviewer online my zebras were all right-side up. But like her I did notice some poor stitchwork on the top that makes me think they needed a better quality check process for this top. I can see tucking this one into a skirt or wearing it over crops, but I’d gladly buy this top now if it was just a few inches longer and a bit better made. As is, wishlisted for reconsideration at sale time.

Sea Drift Tank ($78) by Postmark, TTS
style # 25021627; green (030) — really, Anthro? Green?!?
★★★★☆

I get excited about tops like the Sea Drift Tank ($78), where careful attention is paid to the details and the result is a flattering and fun piece. An abstract smudge of flowerlike things lies below an overlay of lace on this halter top. The bottom part is rayon which makes it soft but prone to pilling. A clasp in the back of the neck opens so you can slide this tank on pullover style. It’s very long, hitting mid-thigh on me. Though Anthropologie calls this top green I would say purple or mauve is more accurate.

Although beautiful, this top isn’t really right on me. I found a medium to fit but the shape isn’t doing much for me. I like the way the lace overlays both front and back with the scallops leaving the middle exposed. With a miniskirt this would be a hot summer date top! I could see someone like Chloe rocking this top so it was no surprise when I read she’d bought this. Almost certainly a pass for me though. If you prefer your lace overlays in solid colors this tank also comes in navy blue as the Semi-Obscured Tank ($68), style # 25290933, which seems like a summer version of the Penelope Cowlneck to me.

Mixed Bouquet Blouse ($98) by Maeve, size down
style # 24992695; multi (095)
★★★★☆

As I noted earlier, the Mixed Bouquet Blouse ($98) is a silk cousin to the Silk Road Mosaic Tee ($68). The print is a mix of a bold floral and a white/blue abstract print, which may look familiar because Maeve also used it on the Carissa & Cobalt Blouse ($118). A bright blue panel of blue on the back of the Mixed Bouquet Blouse is a cool touch.

I found this top to run very large. Instead of my usual 6 I went down to a 4 which means that true size 0s and maybe 2s might be sized out. The top had some extra room in the midsection even in the 4 but anything smaller would not clear my hips. I like the v-neck that dips low without revealing too much and the cute cap sleeves. The print is just fantastic. While I’m happy to see silk for under $100, I think I’ll wait until sale on this top. For now, wishlisted!

Woven Window Top ($68) by Vanessa Virginia, size down
style # 24640245; navy (041) or coral (085)
★★★☆☆

The Woven Window Top ($68) seems like your basic tee at first until you look closer. First up at the neckline you see a knotted wheel of sorts. (Or maybe a shield! Very superhero-like.) Then the slightly triangular shape of the top becomes apparent. It’s made from rayon and spandex which is much less impressive.

I found this top to run large. You see a medium on me above which was extra flowy with plenty of room in back. I’d size down to a small to buy. I like how easy this top feels on, though it’s pretty thick for summertime. Come fall this top would be in regular weekend rotation for me. So it’s wishlisted for sale time! I can wait.

I love the product shot for the coral version:

It shows the top with the Seamed Cargo Pants ($118) in moss and shoes that I need help identifying. Does anyone in the community know what these shoes are called? They’re adorable! For awhile Anthropologie had gotten much better at making the related products upsells on the sidebar accurate to the product shots but that seems to have gone by the wayside again.

Coming up next week in reviews: New July arrivals!
