Reviews: Beaded Composition Top and Citizens of Humanity Rocket High Rise Skinny Jeans

Wear it backwards or forwards, but you’ll want to wear it always.

By community demand I’m running a quickie reviews set so you can see what the Beaded Composition Top ($198) looks like in real life!

Beaded Composition Top ($198) by Yumi Kim, TTS

Note: For sizing reference I am 34-29-38, size 6/M in tops, a 30 in pants with a 34D cup. I am 5’8″.

The Beaded Composition Top ($198) is quite frankly awesome. A little throwback in its beadwork, a little modern in design and a little party in shape. It’s completely sheer which for once doesn’t bother me too much — I think it would be bold and fun to wear this on date night with just a lacy bra underneath. Of course I wouldn’t mind if the top came with a layering cami either, maybe something with an open back to match the shape of this shell?

I find it really weird that this top is priced the same as the Chiaroscuro Shift ($198) which I reviewed this morning. Moving past that, this top is gorgeous. The beadwork lies in pattern around the neckline and hemline but is strewn on the top in what looks like a random pattern. On the sides a little half-circle is also splattered with beads. The top isn’t itchy but it’s heavy from all the beads. In addition to the big rectangular beads there are also hundreds of little white beads sewn on. The top came down to my waist in the front and the back tulips at about the top of the tailbone. Photo down below.

In terms of fit, I felt best in my usual size medium. The top can be worn either the way I have it on or with the closure towards the front like a bolero. I found the sleeves pretty loose but otherwise the top drapes nicely, skirting the body without hugging it.

Here’s what the closure part looks like:

Just a hint of open back which I like very much. And the beadwork is just as beautiful! One downside however is that the large beads are sewn onto the shell with very thin yarn. I noticed several loose or partially lose beads on the top I tried…

…like the bead in the red box above, which had already lost one side of its threading. Each bead was only double-looped at best with super-thin thread and I can see myself spending hours working to fasten every bead better. That really sucks on a $200 shirt. Boo, Anthro. Boo.

Despite that issue however I love this top and might very well buy it at full price. I really do like it that much!

For once my fitting room outfit is a styling suggestion, as the Citizens of Humanity Rocket High Rise Skinny Jeans ($178) are exactly what I’d wear with the Beaded Composition Top. These jeans are: high-rise without being mommy jeans, skinny but with just a touch of stretch, and long enough for me. Hooray! How are these listed as only 30″ long? Maybe my legs are shrinking.

The jeans are mainly cotton but they do have spandex and a little polyurethane mixed in. They come up high enough to prevent muffin tops but are not so high that they cut off my stomach circulation and organs when I’m sitting. They’re really comfy! Most of the accents on the jeans are also black, with the exception of a single dark silver rivet on each side. These really are jet black jeans.

I had to squeeze myself into a 29 as there were no 30s or even 31s left in the store to try on. I’d buy in my usual size 30. I was very pleased with these jeans! I can’t usually fit into COH at all, the legs are often too tapered to fit over my calves and thighs. So I’m delighted that these work and plan on buying them soon.
