One of Anthropologie’s Chevy Chase, MD stores recently made the transformation from an Accessories Boutique into a Petites Boutique. Around the same time Anthro unveiled a new petites-only collaboration with the incomparable Eva Franco. In celebration of these two awesome happenings the Petites Boutique in Chevy Chase hosted a party with Ms. Franco herself! Community member Anastasia attended and sent along some beautiful photos so we can live vicariously through her attendance.
A quick report from Anastasia:
Well, I went to the event and I am so glad I did. As soon as I walked in the door and checked in with an employee who the had the guest list, Eva started talking to me. Literally, she was the first person I saw and she immediately struck up a conversation with me. I think the fact that I was wearing an Eva Franco dress was an instant ice-breaker.
We had a great chat! Her mom was at the event too, and to my delight, her mom speaks a bit of Russian (they are of Hungarian origin).
Eva is beautiful. I have seen her black-and-white, air-brushed publicity photos, but she is just as lovely in person, if not more! And she is a petite! She said she was 5’3″. We probably talked for a good 10 minutes. About how she started her business, the present state of her company, her website, distribution model, fabrics, everything! She was a delight — so friendly and approachable. What a treat! She introduced me to her marketing intern Cammy who is only 18 but is already making great contributions to the company’s marketing and social media efforts (twitter :: facebook :: website).
In my star-struck excitement, I did not take a lot of pics of the actual EF petites collection. Lots of people tried stuff on and I saw a few women buy some items. I did not try anything on because I was talking, talking, talking the whole time.
I was eyeing the Tweed Skater Skirt and the Poppy Petite Dress, though. I also really like the Merida Pencil Skirt and the Gilt Bouquet Skirt, which are not part of the petite-only capsule, but do come in petite lengths.
At the end of the evening, I also got to talk with Sarah, Anthro’s petites buyer. Another great conversation! She told me and another guest how she got a job at Anthro, about the history of the building where their HQ is located, how they travel to the India Fashion Week to scout new designer talent, and other interesting stuff.
And, of course, they had the obligatory champagne and divine macaroons on which I gorged.
Thanks Anastasia for this wonderful report! Like many who read this blog I’ve long loved Eva Franco and I’m totally jealous of this Petites-only collection…especially as a tall person. I’m especially enamored with the Embroidered Tulle Petite Shell and might try it on anyway just for kicks.
