Eye Candy: Anthropologie May 2012 catalogue

Anthropologie’s May 2012 catalogue sneaks off to one of my favorite places — Harbour Island in the Bahamas. This tiny island is known for its amazing pink sand and for houses with names instead of numbers. Residents get around via golf cart instead of car. It’s a relaxed atmosphere in the lap of luxury. At my last job I had the privilege of overseeing the development of one of the island inn’s websites, which I’m delighted to see is mostly intact from the design we launched several years back. The inn’s owner is a famous, now-retired hockey player and I admit the entire development team was angling for an invite to visit the grounds in person. I’ve since visited the Bahamas though not Harbour Island…yet.

Set against such a lovely background Anthropologie’s latest releases take on an extra beachy vibe. You’d think that just coming back from Hawaiian vacation would have me in the mood to be island all the time but I admit few of these items struck a chord with me. If my lifestyle was permanent vacation or summer all the time I’d be in love. But as I flip from page to page I’m still wondering where these clothes fit into my decidedly urban, very NYC lifestyle. The clothing is beautiful and the photography lovely. It’s not resonating with me functionally. Maybe my mind will change as I begin to review these items. (I’ve got a backlog of posts that didn’t publish while I was away; Blogger just rolled out a major update to its platform and the scheduler function is broken as a result. They’re on it.) I have found that I’m more excited by the in-store arrivals than the catalogue pieces, though I love the catalogues themselves for the stellar photography.

As you scroll through this post’s Eye Candy what do you think? Did you make wishlist additions from these lovelies? I found plenty of items I like but few I’m likely to buy. Hopefully the community fared better than me. I’m more of a fall/winter lover anyway so I’m curious what you think.

I just adore this whole look! And as more than a few readers have pointed out to me via email, the Ines Column Dress ($188) would make an excellent, simple-yet-elegant wedding dress. J’adore!

Love the proportions of this look, though I wonder who wears a sweater with such light shorts?

I’m also in love with all the floppy hats this month. As a fair-skinned gal I need to cover my head in the sun. There are plenty of pretty options to keep my noggin unburned in the catalogue.

This is the sole outfit in the catalogue that even begins to approach work-appropriate for me. I like the proportions of the look, I just wish the skirt didn’t look so sheer.

Altair Tent ($8,998)

Anthropologie is selling a tent. And that pretty much sums it up.
