Wish List: January 2010

Nothing like a new year to breathe some optimism into the fresh air! A lot of peeps seem to complain about January — the post-Holiday blues must get to them — but I love it. The symbolism of winter runs deep to me. It means a time to rest and plan for our new goals. It means washing away old failures and filing away victories to use as inspiration. Winter gives us time to meditate, make peace and build anticipation for the coming action. Some mistake the cold for lack of emotion but it’s quite the opposite. The layers of ice and snow lock in the warmth underneath. This is a time to celebrate friends, family and loved ones and gather close with them around the fire. The chill brings excitement and electricity to the air, recharging us. If you have animals you can really see it in the way they react and revel outdoors this time of year. It’s a sight to behold.

And on a more superficial note, it’s time for me to plan my wishlist for the month! Pretty short one for January as I’m paying down my holiday bills. There’s still plenty to love though.

1. Many happy returns purchases.
On the 22nd I’ll have survived another year and as a reward I think the Snow-Covered Fields Dress ($148) is calling to me. The print of the skirt is amazing and the open back is alluring without being too revealing. I’m pretty sure this sweater in sweet guava will match perfectly. I have a ridiculously long birthday wishlist but if this dress works out I’ll consider it enough to satisfy me for now.

2. Doing the sale dance.
In January, I hope to see all four of the tops above on sale. I caved last week and ordered the Snowscape Tank ($148, third from left) as part of my last Free Shipping spend on the website. Plus this amazing outfit by Chloe has been on my mind for far too long. Want to mimic! So here’s hoping it hits sale fast enough for a price adjustment. The Bordurette Tank ($98, far left) was instant love for me; the Avenues-of-Lace Blouse ($98, second from left) hit my radar after Ali guest reviewed it and the Clustered Camellia Tee ($78) has been taunting me at full price for months now. Months, Anthro.

3. Anthropologie on ebates.
Urban Outfitters is there so it’s only a matter of semantics at this point. Come on Anthropologie! You charge shipping on your orders (which by the way, I predict this will go the way of the dinosaurs in 2010) so you could at least throw us a bone and let us earn some cash back for shopping online with you. It enables. It’s an easy integration. It increases conversion by a couple of percentage points. There’s no reason not to do it.

uuuggghhhh… i HATE the shipping charges on anthropologie.com. 19.95?? almost every other site i buy from either has a free shipping deal or a much cheaper fee. anthro needs to fix that

I also love the Snow Covered Fields dress! Ever since Natalie showed a sneak preview on Anthro Addict I've been waiting for it, despite it being a very spring season dress. I'm so impatient that I ordered 2 sizes as soon as it showed up on the website, since I haven't seen it in any stores yet. Any one see it IRL? Hope it's as lovely in person. I love to have a great spring item waiting in my closet, in anticipation of warm days ahead. Thanks Roxy for the uplifting themes of winter to see us through the cold spells!

Happy New Year, Roxy! I love your dress pick, and that sweater would look awesome with it! I appreciate your positive take on winter. So many people dread it. Perhaps I'm biased because I'm named after a colder season, but I love the crisp air! Thanks for your refreshing thoughts. 🙂

I almost bought two different sweaters this week but didn't pull the trigger because of shipping. When I saw the final cost I cringed.Definately have had my eye on the Snowscape Tank- so beautiful! I am hoping for a sale.

I agree, I want a sale, too. I have been checking throughout the day, daily this week, for a sale. Does anyone happen to know how long it takes for an item to go on sale, or has it varied by item in the past? The item I want was introduced mid or late October, I believe.

Anon @ 2:44 – I would wear a low crossback bra with it or one of the styles that has boning in front and a low strap in back.Anon @ 5:22 – it varies but the normal sale cycle for Anthro is 120 days. These past few months it's been closer to 90 with some items going on sale at 60. Hope that helps a bit.

Thank you for the information, Roxy. I roughly calculated the item I want, based upon when I think it was introduced, and by Tuesday it won't even be at 70 days(If I am right). It's the Ice Capped Blouse. I see that all sizes are still available online. What do you think?

  11. January 2, 2010 / 2:32 am

Probably too early Anon. But I will do the sale dance for that one too on Monday night. 😉

If retail therapy doesn't work for those SAD sufferers, your waxing poetic would do.

The second the Snowscape Tank goes on sale I'm scoffing it up. I have been waiting on that for a long time now, they have so many at my stores! And it hasnt sold out online.. .I think a lot of people are waiting, so I'll have to be quick about it! :)Justine http://www.fetchingfashions.blogspot.com

Oh lord, if Anthro was on eBates, my rebate checks would be *huge*! Also, please Anthro gods, bring free shipping back. I am reluctant to purchase things now for an additional $20 after so many months of free shipping.Hope you get your hands on the Snow-Covered fFields, it's awesome.
