Quick hits: Reviews of some recent Anthropologie new arrivals

I needed to give the Fluttered Fete Midi Skirt ($188) a whirl.

In the interest of finally getting some of the reviews I’ve been sitting on up and running, I’ve assembled this no-frills post with quick reviews of a bunch of the Anthropologie new Fall 2015 arrivals I’ve tried on recently.

Come on inside for some delights and misses…

Cedez Tank ($78) by HD in Paris, TTS
Style No. 4110332102389; holly (032, shown on me) or black)
★★★★☆

Note: For reference I am currently sitting at 34-29-38, size 6/M in sweaters, 6 in dresses and 29/30 in pants, 34D. I am 5’8″.

Wow, is the Cedez Tank ($78) ever gorgeous! This holly green color is beautiful, the tiers are perfectly set and the overall length of the top is great, hitting me low hip.

The v-neck comes to a perfect point on my body and the split back catches the air beautifully as I move. This is one of the prettiest tops I’ve seen in a long time, and I had no hesitation in bringing it home immediately. I’m in a 6 here, my usual size in tops.

Purchased!

Contrast Study Dress ($228) by Troubadour, TTS
Style No. 4130095150007; neutral (014)
★★★★☆

I had a bra fail while trying on the Contrast Study Dress ($228) but I can see beyond it to how lovely this dress is! I’m all about the colorblocking and the bold silhouette pattern. Yum! The sleeves are perhaps a bit tinier than I’d like but that’s really my only quibble. The waist hit where it should. The skirt hits me an inch above the knee. It’s youthful and fun!

One big fail: the pattern placement on the 6 I tried on sucked. Do better, Anthro.

Wishlisted!

Cutout Stripes Dress ($138) by Maeve, TTS
Style No. 4130339185315; black motif (009)
★★★★☆

Loved, loved, loved the Cutout Stripes Dress ($138)! Nice summer weight, hit me just above the knees, v-neck is deep but not too deep; you can wear a bra even with the fancy cutout back. The pattern is pretty and fun, the skirt has a nice gentle flare to it.

What I didn’t like: this dress is very stretchy which was a surprise to me. I expected it to have more structure to it — to feel tighter against my skin and compress. I guess that’s what you get with cotton-poly-spandex. Spandex, ugh.

Still, I’d buy this in a heartbeat and belt it. Wishlisted!

Ribboned Denim Dress ($148) by Holding Horses, size up
Style No. 4130382013788; tinted denim (093)
★★★☆☆

I guess I’m gonna be the lone dissenter on the Ribboned Denim Dress ($148) — this dress was a big ol’ meh for me. I wasn’t nearly as impressed or enamored as a lot of the online reviewers are. Mostly I think I’m majorly disappointed that the skirt isn’t an a-line like the model shot online shows. Ugh, it would have been so perfect as a fit-and-flare! Major WTF from me.

On the plus side the denim is very soft, the tie detail at the waist is super cute and the length is great; the dress hit me across the knees. But I had lots of fit problems — the neckline stood up off my chest, the back had a pool of extra material in every size I tried, the shoulder straps kept slipping down. In the triptych above I am in a size 8 in the far left shot (which is one size up for me and the size I’d buy) and in the center and far right shot I’m in my usual size 6, which was too small here.

Not a winner with me.

Sennebec Dress ($138) by Maeve, TTS
Style No. 4130339183688; navy (041, shown on me), neutral or wine
★★★☆☆

Another meh for me was the Sennebec Dress ($138). My main issue is with the keyhole on the top portion, which shows off way too much of my bust for day and yet the dress isn’t sexy enough for night, so it’s just weird. Plus, the bodice is way too short on me and I have a short torso! This dress seems to be designed for smaller busts which is cool but a no-go for me.

The skirt portion is lovely and hits about an inch above my knees. The dress has plenty of give though my bra was clearly visible from the sides…not so great. I love the wine color on the website but won’t be purchasing this dress. I’m in my usual size medium here.

Not for me. Pass.

Sanna Blouse ($98) by Meadow Rue, size down
Style No. 4110292121530; white (001, shown on me), black, navy and brown motif
Fluttered Fete Midi Skirt ($188) by Eva Franco, TTS
Style No. 4120210695788; pink (066)
both items: ★★★★☆

I’m wearing two delightful Anthropologie items together here and they are both winners with me! The Sanna Blouse ($98) in particular has tons of potential — I was elated by how easy it was to fold the top over itself to make a perfect cropped topper for the skirt.

The top is rayon crepe with poly scalloping along the bottom. I am wearing a size small here, one size down from my usual medium. At full length it hits me high hip, about even with my wrists. I like the airy, lightweight feel of the crepe. As someone who sweats easily, this is just the right material for me in late summer — yes, I prefer it greatly over silk crepe in this instance. I do not like how sheer this white color is. Boo, Anthro.

The skirt is everything I’d hoped it’d be. The top layer is beautifully detailed with lots of lovely floral pieces strewn about. There’s a back zip. It isn’t too floofy or huge. The tulle on top isn’t too itchy. It hits me just below the knee and runs true to size — I’m in an 8 here.

Some more items I’m eager to try on: the Oakdale Dress ($148), the Embroidered Denim Shift ($248), the Merian Tunic Dress ($138, community request!), the Current Tank ($78), the Vegan Leather Bomber ($188). What else should I look for?
