Runway to Everyday: Adam Lippes Spring 2014

Simple and classic in an unconventional material from Adam Lippes Spring 2014
ready-to-wear presentation at New York Fashion Week.

It’s always possible that a Fashion Week presentation will be over the top. Mostly though it’s a chance for designers to present their wares to buyers and get their product in stores. I never fail to be inspired by outfits on the runway! Sometimes they need a little adjustment to work off the runway, sometimes not. Runway to everyday is about translating runway looks to an everyday outfit.

Today, a beautiful satin dress from Adam Lippes’ Spring 2014 collection gets the everyday treatment.

EVERYDAY LOOK 1

1 – J. Crew Dress // 2 – Steve Madden Jacket via Nordstrom // 3 – Free People Necklace
4 – Madewell Tote via Shopbop // 5 – Joe’s Jeans Heels via Shopbop // 6 – Free People Bracelet

This is how I’d wear the everyday version of the runway inspiration look. First, I’ve chosen a dress with a similarly long silhouette and adjusted the shape from a trapeze to a more figure-flattering fit-and-flare. (I have a trapeze everyday look below this option.) A perforated blazer keeps the top half light and then I’ve accessorized with a long pendant necklace and a combination of leather, suede and metallic in varying tones of brown.

It was hard for me to choose just one blazer for this look! If the white Steve Madden option doesn’t do it for you, I also really like this Express faux-leather jacket that comes in 4 colors or this colorful Sam Edelman option or perhaps this soft Kenneth Cole moto jacket via Bloomingdales.

EVERYDAY LOOK 2

1 – Free People Dress // 2 – Anthropologie Necklace // 3 – Chicnova Cardigan //
4 – Sam Edelman Dress Sandals

For the second Everyday look I started with a boho dress (from Free People, natch) and dressed it up a bit via the rest of the items — a long cardigan that creates a streamlined silhouette; dress sandals and a simple filigree necklace. The dress in this Everyday look is closer to the Runway item though neither quite matches the satiny goodness of Adam Lippes’ version.

Which of these two Everyday looks is your favorite? Have you enjoyed the series this week?? You can check out the week’s entire Runway to Everyday series here.
