Today is traditionally the biggest online shopping day of the year and Anthropologie doesn’t want to be left out. Their Cyber Monday deal is here, plus the 25% off sale items is still working (and will be until about 9 AM or so…)
For today only USA customers can get FREE SHIPPING with no minimum on Anthropologie.com. My reaction to this? Yawn. This is a perk I wish anthro members got anyway and compared to my other beloved retailers free shipping isn’t going to push me into placing another Anthropologie order.
A bit later this week I’ll be running the analysis of Urban Outfitters’ Q3 fiscal earnings call. (Urban Outfitters is Anthropologie’s parent company.) Anthro did pretty well last quarter which is fantastic news, but the ship is still listing. Lackluster promotions like this aren’t going to help.
And yes, I know, and I have long defended that Anthropologie is a brand that doesn’t do promotions and considers themselves above percent-off specials. But whatever — that ship has sailed and Anthro needs to look closer at another one of their big priorities, customer loyalty. How loyal can I feel to a brand that doesn’t give a true customer incentive on two of the biggest shopping days of the year? They’re really testing me right now. Still love them but there is more side-eye.
