Reviews: BC Winner’s Circle Pump & Ikia Platforms

Oooh, shiny! Sparkly!

Anthropologie has begun adding model shots to many of its online product pages. In some cases they’ve replaced the dress form shots which I’m not happy about. But on the positive side I do like the outfit inspiration the model shots provide. Last week while researching the Seamed Cargo Pants ($118, reviewed here) I was distracted by the super cute shoes on the model. After a fruitless search on Anthropologie’s website I turned to the community and Emily came through, ID’ing them as BC’s Winners Circle Pumps. As far as I know Anthropologie never carried these but since it was their cute outfit that pushed me to order them I figured the community should get a review.

I ended up ordering these shoes from Endless.com. Endless, like Zappos before it, got purchased by Amazon and I fear it may not be long for this world. Endless recently changed its return policy to 30 days (from 365). I hope they don’t start playing the same pricing algorithm games as Amazon. Meaning that if you look at a product once and don’t buy it, you may come back a day later and find the product is now cheaper or more expensive.

The shoes were just under $48 when I bought them and are showing the same price for me now. I purchased my usual size 9 and found them a bit loose in the heel. If you are between shoe sizes I’d recommend going with the smaller size.

These shoes are super comfy. The heel is only 2 inches, and it’s a chunkier heel for more stability. The toe has a 90s shape to it with a rounded point and a little less coverage on the vamp. There is definitely toe cleavage so if that bothers you I would not recommend these shoes.

The silver is actually woven thread. The pair I got looked great save for one tiny loose thread on the very top of the heel. I’m sure this will wear over time given my rough walking habits. The bottom of the shoe is a synthetic soul with a few grips to keep you from sliding. The shoes make some noise as you walk but not the loud clicking you sometimes get with heels.

Overall I really like these shoes! BC is Seychelles’ cheaper cousin and I’d love to see some of these shoes carried at Anthropologie.

Ikia Platforms ($268) by Leifsdottir, size up

The Ikia Platforms ($268) are amazingly beautiful. These black and white platforms have a mix of materials that all come together perfectly. Part woven, part leather, all awesome. Curiously they only come in full sizes which left me in a bit of a lurch. I’m a 9 in shoes normally but in Euro sizes I tend to be a 39.5 (which is usually a 9.5 in USA sizes). I tried these platforms in both a 39 and a 40.

The 39s were just too small. The 40s had a lot of space in the heel. As I wore the shoes my foot kept sliding forward in them. I’d need some kind of no-slip pad to keep my feet in place. I love the leather cross straps, which are an off-white. They have lots of holes and fit my high arches with no problem. The footbed is cushioned so these feel very comfortable. A lot of times angles this high hurt the ball of my foot. Not an issue here — they are so easy to wear! Though the heel is 4 inches the platform makes it feel like you’re walking on kitten heels.

The best part about these heels is that they make your legs look amazing. They truly lengthen the leg line the criss-crossing straps draw the eye inward. It’s a slimming effect that I welcome! Plus the black and ivory color means they go with nearly anything. The versatility invites vast styling possibilities. The price tag is steep but these beauties are worth it in my opinion. These are sitting in my cart right now and may come home to me in August.

Looking for more reviews? I posted two sets earlier today: one with pants and one with dresses. Have you tried either of these pairs of shoes on? If so, what did you think?
