Reviews: The Gathering Tank, Wreathen Blouse, Baubled Fan Pullover, Textural Paradise Top, Dogwood Blouse

I can’t help starting this reviews set with a tangent. How wonderful are Anthropologie’s new product shots? They’re larger which I love; they take shots for just about every variation of the products which I love; the models are smiling and that is totally winning me over! Why are clothing models so serious all the time? It’s not life or death people. It’s just clothing, whether it’s fashion or fahhhh-shun or fash’in. Smiles make any outfit look better. So glad Anthro knows this.

Today’s reviews set comes from Denver, Colorado. I stopped in at the Park Meadows Anthropologie during my vacation and tried on a bunch of items. The staff there was amazing! They helped me find a pair of shoes I’d missed while traveling. And they helped me pick an array of items to try on. This is part one with part two on the way soon.

The Gathering Tank ($48) by Deletta, size up
style # 20437349, green (030) or 5 other colors
★★★★☆

This is exactly the kind of “basic” I come to Anthropologie for: the tee shirt with a twist. Instead of a ringer neckline or a smarmy saying, I look for little pintucks or decoration or ruffles that elevate it from cotton snoozer to delightful daywear. The Gathering Tank ($48) comes in 6 vivid colors that pair well with the kooky selection currently in Anthro’s stores. The cotton is a little too thin, my common refrain this year at Anthropologie. I hope they fix this issue soon. I’m glad this shirt is not $58 like they were trying to pull for awhile, but $10 less does not excuse low quality or thin fabric.

Fitwise this one is surprisingly close to the chest. And torso. And hips. My usual size medium was happy to hug every curve. I prefer my tees to be comfortably loose and so I’d size up. Some of the online reviews note that this top runs short but I didn’t find that to be the case in-store. I’m not sure if this varies by delivery or if the online version is shorter than the store top. I have been patiently waiting to see if this top hits sale during the summer months, but it looks like this will be a holdout. I think $48 is a decent price and will probably buy one color now and wait for sale to pick up additional hues. Here’s hoping the top lasts through multiple washes.

Wreathen Blouse ($78) by Two of Us, TTS
style # 21216536, ivory (011) or navy (041)
★★★☆☆

The Wreathen Blouse ($78) is the Back Porch Blouse’s casual cousin. The same latticework scalloped lace populates the front and back. It leaves you curiously exposed while in the top yet there is no layering tank included. It’s like telling someone you made them an ice cream sandwich but then finding it partially melted in the fridge. Exciting and then disappointing.

I tried on a small in-store. It didn’t quite slip over my hips, meaning my usual size medium would be the purchased size. I think this top would be very fun come fall! Wear it over a turtleneck or a short black cashmere sweater for some ladylike pretty over the basic work uniform. The navy version would be wonderful for a date with a black cami underneath and a cute skirt in pair. I knocked two stars off for the lack of underlayer but I otherwise like this top. Wishlisted for sale time!

Baubled Fan Pullover ($128) by Yoana Baraschi, TTS but runs short
style # 21160197, red (060) or black (001)
★★★★★

Stunning! It was love at first sight with the Baubled Fan Pullover ($128), a detailed beauty worthy of its price tag. Little luxuries abound, from the scallop-edge sleeves to the slight fallover cowlneck to the loop and circuit trim along the shoulders and the extended hem. Happy sigh. The material (viscose and nylon) makes this top light enough for breezy summer days.

I grabbed a medium to try in the fitting room. It fit, though it was juuuusssstttt long enough. Reaching my arms over my head meant exposing belly, and really no one needs to see that. So while the fit of the medium was fine I’d size up to a large for additional length on my 5’8″ frame. I think most people will be fine in their usual size. This is a beautiful sweater and I will likely buy it at full price.

Textural Paradise Top ($98) by Stitch & Knot, TTS
style # 21214788, ivory (011)
★★★☆☆

Here’s another lacy white top with an open front but no layering top. The Textural Paradise Top ($98) has a trailing floral pattern with a solid ivory silk back. There is the slightest tapering at the waist to keep the top from being a shapeless piece, a touch I appreciate.

I reached for a medium, and my usual size fit alright. It was somewhat loose at the sides but I needed that room for my hips. I felt airy and comfortable in the top but there’s no way I’d wear it without something underneath. Which means at least $20 for an Anthro camisole and easily much more. $100 seems like a hefty price for this top to be wearable. This one’s likely a pass.

Dogwood Blouse ($98) by Moulinette Soeurs, size down
style # 20846606, neutral motif (015)
★★★☆☆

Please pardon the visible bra…though I guess this is yet another top Anthro encourages you wear this way! (They’re nuts.) This sheer but otherwise lovely top is the Dogwood Blouse ($98), a surprising winner from Moulinette Soeurs. The natural current of this top looks a bit like moss growing on a stone yet I’m drawn to the earthiness of it.

This rayon top runs a bit large. My usual size 6 felt loose so I asked for a 4, which I have on in the photos above. With a sleeveless layering top underneath I could see wearing the pretty blouse to work, out after work or to an event. The sleeves are my favorite touch — I love the textural goodness. The three stars only are because this top is so sheer with nothing underneath. I do like the design, look and fit.

With the top are the AG Farrahs, which I will fully review next week. Quick thoughts? Apologies for the bluntness but I do not understand the appeal of whiskering on jeans. It’s like someone thought skid marks would look good in the crotch area and on the thighs.

Here’s a closeup of the sleeves on the Dogwood Blouse ($98). Pretty earthy goodness. This top is tops on my wishlist right now!
