Quick hits: Sweaters, Coats & Sweatercoats

Tons of sweaters to get through,
Some sweatercoats and jackets too.
What better way to do it,
Then with some poems for you?

Whipped Woolens Cardigan ($78), size M:
I loved this sweater on the website,
I simply could not wait to try it.
Despite my anticipation,
Something was lost in translation.
I think it was the mohair
That left me in despair.
This sweater hugged me in an unappealing way,
Back to the rack with you I say!

Lady’s Choice Cardigan ($88), size M:
Chloe and I will often lament,
That if an item works on one us
It’s to the other’s detriment.
So when this cardi looked fantastic on her,
I knew to be prepared for letdown,
And letdown it was for sure.
I do not need more shoulders —
I’ve got enough already.
And a better fit across the front was in order.
This cardigan seemed pretty sad,
I was eager to take it off
And move on to something else fast.

Dawning Cardigan (now $40), size M:
Oops, it appears this one’s already gone from the site,
Just as it appeared in store after more than a fortnight,
Hopefully a cached page will do in the meantime.
This cardigan is called dark grey by Anthro,
I think purple is more appropriate although
I often seem to disagree with their color interpretations shown.
The fit on this cardi was decent,
And I like the ripples that give this cardi reason,
To be more than just one of those basic pieces.
On sale it’s reasonable,
The color makes it seasonable,
But still I decided to pass.

Jet Stream Cardigan (now $50), size M:
This chunky mix of cotton and linen
Is the kind of piece that leaves me smitten.
Though I have to wonder about the use,
Of a sweater this thick with sleeves reduced.
I don’t really like this open style
It blows in the wind and leaves me riled
Though I have seen starlets make it work for them,
Including one of my faves — Jennifer Aniston.
I think this cardigan swallowed me up a bit,
A small would be the better fit.

Alice in Autumn Sweatercoat ($168), size M:
Another coat I couldn’t wait to see
Is the one you see above on me.
And man what a disappointment in real life
The fit was pretty awful for this boiled wool delight.
I had some major poofing issues at the hips,
And the neckline was just kind of tragic.
It’s already sold out so maybe the problem is mine,
But in this coat I was feeling less than divine.

Outdoor Cafe Cardigan ($98), size M:
Hopefully you’ve stuck with me til now,
Because this is when things started to turn around!
Let’s start with this cute mix of lemon-lime
Which I put on and felt immediately kind.
Though from the front the trim isn’t quite what I want,
Overall the fit is great and that’s most important.
I found this sweater very comfortable,
And warm enough to wear once it snows.
Finally something for my wishlist,
I was beginning to fear I’d have no picks.

Birmingham Ballet Cardigan ($88), size M:
There are those sweaters which are cropped,
Like this one whose bottom was off-lopped,
I like the buttons which dance down the front,
Shiny and pretty like dancers conduct.
The material is a beautiful argyle knit,
Look at it closely to really appreciate it.
I probably would have bought this outright
If the lows these days weren’t 90 at night.
Wishlisted!

Stormy Paisley Sweater Jacket ($128), size L:
Occasionally products disappear curiously,
And such is the case with this jacket of paisley.
While the outfit set is still online,
The jacket featured has been denied.
I probably shouldn’t jump to conclusions,
But perhaps the poor fit is not an illusion?
I really wanted to love this coat,
But instead I nothing of which to gloat.
The collar just felt much too big
And the jacket, conversely, short by a titch.

In-The-Lines Cardigan ($128), size M:
I should admit right off the bat,
That I have a weakness for sweaterjackets like that.
I love the bold vertical lines
And also was pleased by the overall design.
Except of course for my constant complaint,
Too short for me I always seem to say!
Anthropologie, can we make a deal?
Bring back your tall versions for wider appeal.
Those of us over 5’7″ request
You remember us; we’re a large subset!
For now I guess I’ll size up to a large
Since the bottom was pulling on this charge.

Wish You Were Here Cardi, $118, size L:
Guinevere has done it again it seems,
With a cardi first spotted by Goldenmeans.
Instead of maps this time around,
Small, medium and large postage stamps abound.
I found sizing up was the best solution
To cure the buttons which were pulling.
The color combo here works well
Though if I bought this it’d be on sale.
Soft as this is I’m laughing here,
If Anthro thinks $118 is a fair price — no, my dear.
That’s not to say that I won’t pay higher prices,
This item just doesn’t justify those devices.
Want to get a closer look?
Below is a detail shot I took.

Love everything but the price.

Shawl Collar Sweatercoat ($148), size M:
Oh good! I thought when I saw this sweater,
A belt. FINALLY. All the better.
To keep the wind from pulling this back,
I’ll tie it firmly round my waist and that’s that.
Unfortunately when I got this sweater on,
I felt more like a robe is what I’d donned.
It was very comfortable and I felt gobbled up,
In layers of knit chunky goodness so loved.
Maybe this will be marketed as a coat?
Because it’s thick enough so that’s my vote.
Although I think I’d go up one size
To fix the gap across the tummy lies.
