Guest post: Welcome to Pittsburgh & reviews by Jesspgh

Another new guest author joins the ever-growing roster today! Please welcome Jesspgh, author of the wonderful blog Consume or Consumed. I am thrilled to run this post on the new Pittsburgh Anthropologie, and Jesspgh was nice enough to include some product reviews as well! If you’re interested in writing a guest post please email me or click the “contact” link near the top of the blog. On to the guest post…

I was thrilled to hear a new Anthropologie was opening within the city of Pittsburgh. Previously, trekking out to Mt. Lebanon was difficult and time consuming. It forced many Pittsburgh Anthropologie lovers to shop online more than we’d like. I was out of town during the opening party and official opening day, but I visited the new store last Wednesday. I was pleasantly surprised by its size!

The store is much bigger than I anticipated. And stocked amply with new merchandise as well as a very impressive sale room. It feels airy and welcoming because of the various displays and impeccable store styling.

They have a few seating areas like this one. I loved the old sewing table to the left of the couch.

While in the store I also tried on a few pieces. The dressing rooms are very clean, well lit, and spacious. I came looking for the Dagmar Shirtdress ($148) and much to my dismay found only one errant website return in a size too small.

This is a size 6. I am usually an 8 in Maeve dresses so this was snug as I expected. Particularly through the bust and sleeves, I was uncomfortable. Here it is with the sleeves unbuttoned.

I like it more unbuttoned than the Two-Wheeler Shirtdress ($128, a dress where I also had to unbutton the sleeves to fit). I would definitely need an 8 in this one, which makes the sizing true in my opinion. The length is excellent and fine for taller, average, and slightly shorter gals. I am only 5’3 but it hit me at a wearable length. The lush hue of crimson and the large graphic floral print are complimented by flattering pleats in the front and back. The buttons go all the way up the neckline which was a surprise bonus detail I hadn’t anticipated. The fabric is formidable and thick enough to translate to fall and winter wear. If they had an 8 in stock I would have bought it on sight (and I am rarely a full-price Anthro shopper).

I also tried on the Oratory Dress ($98) in a medium. This is by Maeve too. I should have taken Roxy’s advice to size down. The medium was very roomy, particularly through the straps and bust. The fabric is ruched and expandable which can be an asset for those in between sizes. It is very cute in person and reasonably priced at retail.

Lastly, I tried on the High Seas Dress ($138) by We Love Vera. Much like Roxy, I find WLV dresses to run small. This is not the case with the High Seas. I grabbed a medium out of habit but it was very roomy. The vibrant print would be perfect for picnicking. But I don’t think it would be easy to winterize this particularly summery number. I will wait for a sale and reevaluate.

Thank you so much to Roxy for the opportunity to discuss the new Pittsburgh Anthropologie and share some reviews! I know so many of us are grateful for the community she has forged on this blog. For me, that made guest posting an extra special treat!

Oh did you try the yellow leather couch? I have been looking for it but haven't read any reviews on it!

I also live in Pittsburgh and visited the new Anthropologie. I love it because it has so many windows that provide better lighting than the Mt. Lebanon store. Also, the staff was very pleasant and helpful. Like Jesspgh, I much prefer going to Shadyside rather than Mt. Lebanon. I just can't wait for all of Bakery Square to be finished!

Nice to see a new store opening post. I always like seeing what other Anthros are like since I have only one in my city. I really love the Dagmar dress on you. That may be one that needs to be in your closet Jess.

I'm from Pittsburgh originally (born in Mt. Lebanon), although I have not lived there for many years. Still visit once in a while and have family east of Pgh.Wondering where in Mt. Lebanon the store is (can you share?) – and there is a 2nd store downtown, is that correct? You guys have 2 Anthropologies? (lucky!)The new store looks great, spacious, and I know it will be a great thing for Pittsburgh. I always lamented that Pittsburgh does not have a Saks or a Nordstrom anywhere, so having an Anthro always is a bonus!Heidi

hs: The Mt. Lebanon store is in a mall in the middle of nowhere; the second store in the city is in East Liberty bordering on Point Breeze in a new shopping/hotel/restaurant-type development (Bakery Square). Near Trader Joes, across from Mellon Park.

Thanks so much, Anonymous – I don't think I have ever been in East Liberty. I'm wondering why they didn't put it in mainstream downtown! Excellent that you guys have 2 however!I can't for the life of me place where there is a mall in Mt. Lebanon though! I know Century III is out in West Mifflin, and know where South Hills Village is, but it sounds as if you're talking about another location? They need to have one in Station Square – would be so cool in the old factory location by the waterfront.

Thanks so much, Roxy and everyone commenting!! HS, The Galleria mall (on Rt 19 in Mt. Lebanon) houses the Anthropologie. It is just down the road from South Hills Village. It used to be the Kaufmann's and now has a theater and a few other nice shops.Pittsburgh also has a Saks AND a Nordstrom, which is great! Saks is downtown at the corner of Smithfield and 6th Ave (across from where Lord and Taylor was). Nordstrom is in Ross Park Mall north of the city a bit, off McKnight Road. An Off Fifth (saks outlet) recently opened in Washington PA near the Casino. The new Anthropologie in East Liberty is off Penn Avenue not far from Trader Joe's. I hope if you come back for a visit you have good shopping luck with all the options! I didn't even hit the tip of the iceberg, really. 🙂

I also love seeing different Anthros – the layout, featured items, etc. Good review of the Dagmar Shirtdress. I've been waiting to see it on someone!
