Guest post: Reviews by Dea

It’s always exciting when an Anthro blogger stops by for a guest post. Today please join me in welcoming the wonderful Dea from the Dea Diaries. I stop by her blog every time a new outfit goes up though I admit to lurking more than I comment. I was stoked when Dea inquired about writing a guest post! So thrilled to welcome her to the guest posting roster. If you’re interested in writing a guest post please email me or click the “contact” link near the top of the blog. On to the guest post…

Hello everyone (frantically waving my hands here)! Big ups to Roxy for creating a venue for Anthro fanatics to show their love and frankly, obsession with all Anthropologie-related items. I first spotted Anthropologie years ago in my mother’s mailbox, and as I started flipping through the catalog, wondered how mom turned out to be so much cooler than me and know about something so beautiful and unique! I was hooked immediately and only admired from afar since as a poor student at the time I couldn’t afford much except $10 bedazzled bobby pins. Well, now I’m a grad student and technically still not lavished in dough, but Anthro has a way of teasing me into coming up with ways (mainly through hard work) to bring pretty items home! Roxy’s blog has definitely been a pleasant community where I can go from locating a much-lusted item to educating myself on how Urban Outfitters’s stocks are managing!

In attempts to control my addiction, I had kept away from the store for a few weeks, but finally broke and tried on some new lovelies. First, we have the very cute in theory, Cascading Bow Dress ($118).

In one word: wrong. It was a sad sad sight, because I was too excited to try this dress on with hopes of introducing Anthro to more professional events but I’ll have to keep looking. I took my usual size 0 and while I fit okay in the dress, the dress did not fit on me. Makes sense, no 😉 It was just bumpy everywhere – the hips pulled but then there was plenty of room in the waist/abdomen area. The bows were creating their own path and it just wasn’t flattering. The chest area was lumpy, just kind of poofy, and I definitely think I could have stuffed in a sandwich and no one would notice! While I loved the concept and color of this dress, it was a sad pass due to the misfit.

The Dagmar Shirtdress ($148) was something I had admired since it appeared online. The shirtdress concept dressed up in dark red with roses had my name all over it. Finding it at the store made me estactic.

It pains me to say this, especially because there’s so much blog love for the dress, but it’s just not there for me. As soon as I put it on I felt kind of blah in it. The top portion did not fit properly and the strange thing is that while it’s V-shaped, the buttons go all the way up. Interesting, because if I were to actually button them, it would look bumpy and there would be a pull. For size reference, I’m wearing a 0, and for those of you wondering, the arm space is there (unlike what we’ve found with the Two-Wheeler). So while I love a cotton shirtdress with pockets, this one is also a sad pass.

Okay, so no love from the dresses. Well, I guess this leads me to the skirts, per usual. First up, the Licorice Lanes Skirt ($78).

Bliss has been attained!! Hello pretty, how are you? It’s obvious that this skirt made me feel better again after the earlier experiences. I love its bright colors, the A-line shape is so flattering, and there’s so many tops that I see it paired with. It fits high on the waist so if you want it to sit closer to the hips, go up one size. It’s a very vibrant piece and its soft cotton makes it perfect for these hot summer months. I’m wearing a 0.

For those of you who know me through my blog, you know my love/fascination with full skirts, so it was an easy choice trying on the Flight ‘Round the Garden Skirt, $118.

It was a pleasant surprise because everything about this skirt was wonderful. I took my usual size 0 in skirts, and although some of the online reviews advise to size up, the fit was just right. Big ups for the pockets and the subdued green flowers. There’s a bit of beading on the butterflies, but nothing overwhelming or gawdy. The cream color can be hard to pull off but paired with the flowers it works well, in my opinion.

Lastly, I leave you with a piece that at best, was questionable on me. Meet Mossy Atoms Skirt

($148).

I pulled the skirt up, pushed it down, but to no avail, I just could not make it work for me, which was sad, because the color is so cute and breezy. I had on the xs but it gave me no kind of shape and I felt really lost in it, so small ladies you might be sized out. The good thing about the elastic waist is that you don’t have to fuss over zippers or buttons, but I kind of wish that was there so it could provide the skirt more of a structure. The catalog shot shows the skirt belted and I think this can create more of a shape, and maybe I’ll try that next time so it doesn’t look like I’m sagging.

There we are folks. While some items were crossed off the list, it just opened up room for the other pretties that have me dreaming. Thanks again Roxy for sharing your space!
