Guest post: All About the Secret Treasure Dress by Fabulous Florida Mommy

This morning’s guest post is all about bringing the community together! I had the pleasure of becoming bloggie friends with Fabulous Florida Mommy through J.Crew Aficionada. I’ve long admired FFM’s incomparable styling skills and her tastefully-appointed Polyvore sets are what I aspire to emulate in my own sets. FFM is definitely one of my inspirations. When she contacted me to ask about writing a guest post I couldn’t say yes fast enough! For more from FFM check out her eponymous blog…after you read this post of course! If you’re interested in writing a guest post please email me or click the “contact” link near the top of the blog. On to the guest post…

I want to start off by saying THANK YOU to Roxy for letting me write a guest post. I have only started shopping Anthropologie in the past year and know that I am a relative *newbie*, but I still wanted to share a review of the Secret Treasure Dress for anyone who may be contemplating buying it. The dress retails for $118 and comes in sizes XSmall-XLarge. The description on the website reads:

“Maeve’s retro-inspired frock is a hiding place for a plethora of intricate details. Disguised pockets, trickling vertical stripes and ruffled capped sleeves come alive with a closer look.

* Front pockets
* Button closure
* Cotton; cotton lining
* Machine wash
* 38″L
* Imported”

The cotton is lightweight and perfect for summer, plus it’s super soft and comfortable, not to mention machine washable. The dress is lined and has tiny snaps between the buttons that help guard against any gaping. It can be dressed up with heels or worn more casually with flats. I purchased both colors of the dress because I wanted to see them IRL.The Blue is actually more of a Blue-Violet color, and it has stripes that are probably a very dark blue-violet, but appear to me as if they could almost be black.

I created a Polyvore of the way I wore the Green dress on 6.11.10:

Here it is on me IRL in size Xsmall:

The Details:

Along with the dress, I am wearing my Urchin’s Shell earrings in Crystal from Anthropologie are now sold out unfortunately, but this pair are a similar alternative.

The Pave’ Necklace I am wearing was a birthday present from my parents and came as a set with matching earrings. This necklace is very similar, except the pendant is a heart instead of a barrel. Perfect Crystal Bold Stretch Bracelet is a favorite piece of mine. It is comfortable to wear, good quality, and reasonably priced. This one (in Gold) and this one are similar alternatives.

Once again I wore my Aviator sunglasses. I love wearing them, and own them in both gold and silver, which I switch out depending on the jewelry I am wearing. The size is perfect…not too large or too small, and very flattering to most facial shapes. Aviators come in a range of colors and prices. A couple of pair similar to mine can be seen here (in Brown) and here (in Gold/Brown combo).

If you frequent my blog, you may have noticed, I carry my J.Crew Large Metallic Gallery Hobo a lot. This was one of the best purchases I have made and the CPW (Cost Per Wear) on it must be at about 5 cents by now. 😉 If you’re looking for one I would suggest posting on the J.Crew Aficionada Weekly Exchange, {Looking to Find} thread or check Ebay on a regular basis. You never know when someone may be willing to part with theirs. In the meantime, check out this one (in Gold) as an alternative.

My sandals were purchased at LOFT last year on super sale. They are the Serena Mini-stud Sandals in Gold, but I also own them in Black with Gold Mini-studs and White with Gold Mini-studs. They are so incredibly comfortable and another great purchase…CPW must be in the negative amount by now. I’m not sure if you could find them on Ebay, but this pair (in Gold) and this pair (also in Gold) may work as an alternative for you.

I also snapped a pic of me in the Blue dress wearing my Black Leather Kork-Ease *Bette* Wedge Sandals, as well as one with the dress belted to show its versatility.

Belted:

I absolutely love the fit of this dress and the feel of the fabric against your skin. It’s such a perfect little dress for summer. I do like the color of the Blue, but will probably wait and try to get it on sale since I already have the Green one.

    I love that dress, too. I have it in blue, and find it to be one of my fave Anthro purchases of all time. It looks gorgeous on you in both colors! Thanks for posting.

    I have it in green and simply love it!! I am waiting for it to hopefully make it to sale so I can get the blue, too. It looks great the way you have it styled with metallics.

    Hi FFM,I tried the Secret Treasures dress after seeing your post. I agree with everything you said. In the dressing room, I knew right away the navy is going home with me! It's so comfortable and functional for the summer that's why I can't wait for a sale. I've worn it so many times it has earned its keep. I'm not normally a dress person but this dress surely changed my mind.

    Hey, it's FFM! Great guest post. Love the dress on you, especially the blue.

    I think I am the only person who didn't care for this dress. The way the shoulders/sleeves are cut makes me look like a linebacker!

    I was so disappointed in this dress! I absolutely love it, but the medium really pulled across my chest, and the large was huge on me. So sad – wish it came in number sizes!! Maybe I'm just disproportionate 🙂 Looks adorable on you, though!!

    OK, FFM, I now need this dress. I've been vacillating between this and the Vappu, but I just can't get the STD out of my head. My only prob is that I'm a 32DD, little-waisted short person (5'4")! Do I get the medium or large? I'm hoping someone else with a similar shape will pipe in and give me some direction!At any rate, you look amazing in the STD! Thanks for the review

    That dress looks great on FFM! I need to try it on now! Thanks for the reviews and styling ideas!

    Thanks for the kind words everyone and congrats to all you ladies who also got the dress! :)HeatherWanders: I'm still trying to figure out my size at Anthropologie. I seem to be between a 2 and 4 according to the online size charts, but the XSmalls seem to fit me best in most of the items I've tried on so far. I am also 5'4" but a 34B and the bust fits nicely in the XSmall on this dress. It would be too small if my bust size was any larger though. I personally don't think you would need a large. I would say try the small and medium if you can. I also got the Vappu and plan to post IRL pics sometime within the next week on my blog.

    FFM…one of my favorite bloggers! I love your Bettes in black. Very cute. Tres chic as always 🙂

    I am patiently holding out for a sale on this dress (but not sure how long I can wait!). Love both colors on you, FFM! I'm going to have a hard time deciding which color to get.
