Mama told me there’d be Sales like this

Ah, sale! It never gets old. I keep wondering why so many items from my wishlist go on sale each week…then I realize it’s because I have over 400 items wishlisted. So um, the likelihood is pretty good. This week’s small batch of cuts is below. I already helped myself to a Field Game Cardigan (now $60, review here with a second consideration review coming later this week). Did you end up with anything? If anything from your wishlist went on sale or got a 2nd cut I’d love to know in the comments! As always, happy hunting!

Finally! The Field Game Cardigan. I now have 39 cardigans in my closet. Eeek! But this one is sooo worth it.

  4. June 29, 2010 / 7:12 am

I really wanted to buy the grey and blue in the field game, but I felt too guilty. So just the grey for me.

Thanks, Roxy! I really like small sales such as this one. Easy on my pocketbook! 🙂

I picked up the Field Game Cardi in gray. I had tried it on with the Lingering Rays Skirt, and loved the two together. Can't wait to get it! What color did you pick yours up in, Roxy?

Picked up the field game cardigan in navy. I had bought it in grey 3 weeks ago—just a week too late for the price cut! Boo. But I'm still happy that I was able to get it in navy for half the price!

  10. June 29, 2010 / 7:26 am

Tien – I got the grey as well. 🙂 Cindi – I am in a similar boat. Come fall I might be listing a few on the Trade Market.

I'll put in a plug for the Lissome Ruffles tunic — I bought it in blue at full price and it's so fab that I just bought it in black on sale! :)I actually prefer the smaller sales (since there's free shipping). Easier to digest, less stressful.

  17. June 29, 2010 / 8:04 am

There are some kitchen items on sale too: Beluga Butter Dish; Boulangerie Bread Bin; Sea Spray Mug; plus a few books…

  18. June 29, 2010 / 8:08 am

Also on sale – Waterspout Taper Holder; Fishbowl Lantern

  19. June 29, 2010 / 8:16 am

Sigh – I am so weak! Snagged the Field Game Cardi in both Gray and Blue, as well as the Tiny Windows Dress. Had the dress a couple weeks ago and loved it but returned it because I couldn't justify the price. Well, just justified it! LOL!Thanks Roxy!

  20. June 29, 2010 / 8:52 am

I got the navy Field Game cardi. 🙂 The gray one is taunting me. >_<

Oh no! I had thought the Tiny Windows dress was too new to go on sale anytime soon, so I let myself get it at full price last week. Do you guys think they'd give me an adjustment? I feel kind of bad to ask since I know that's the risk you take when you buy, but on the other hand I was kind of upset this morning to see that it got such a hefty price cut so soon after I bought it.

  23. June 29, 2010 / 10:58 am

Argh I'm having to wait for the 2 items I want. I definitely overspent lately! Hope that everyone snags what they want 🙂

  25. June 29, 2010 / 11:21 am

Anonymous – Anthro will give you a price adjustment if it is within 14 days! Head back to your store to ask.

  26. June 29, 2010 / 11:29 am

trying my hardest to sit this one out! i love the field game cardigan but am trying to stick with my no multiples rule (who am i kidding, i will probably cave soon!)OT: I received the doubly dapper dress as a gift and it didn't come with tags attached. it just has the tag w/ the little button attached. I'm assuming she bought it online. Does anyone know if I'll be able to exchange it for something else? It's currently posted on the trademarket but if I could take it back to the store that would be better. Any info would be great, thanks 🙂

  35. June 29, 2010 / 12:46 pm

tres tippy – I'm sure they would let you do an exchange, just probably not a return.

  36. June 29, 2010 / 1:03 pm

Does anyone know how the Joe's jeans fit? I wear a 27 in J Crew–do they tend to run the same? Thanks!

  37. June 29, 2010 / 1:07 pm

Lauren S – I usually size down 1 size in Joe's Jeans.By the way, I have a sizing guide in case anyone needs guidance. 😉

  38. June 29, 2010 / 1:10 pm

thanks so much, roxy!also wanted to mention that the high seas dress and the Cattleya cardigan were both on sale in the Philadelphia store (Walnut St) this past Sunday. they had at least 4-5 of each, if anyone is looking!

  39. June 29, 2010 / 1:12 pm

Thanks, Roxy!I've got the Field Game cardi and the Tiny Windows dress in my cart…and I'll probably cave. So I should size up in the FG cardigan? I haven't tried in on yet, and I'm usually a M…Thanks in advance!

  40. June 29, 2010 / 1:16 pm

I am relieved that some of you bought the field game cardigan in two colors. I already had the navy, and it's my favorite top- so I bought the grey, too. Kat, I know a lot of people sized up, but I chose a medium, my usual size.

  41. June 29, 2010 / 1:26 pm

Kat, I found I could wear either an XS (my typical cardi size) or S in the Field Game. I also tried the medium, and remember thinking that if the store sold out of the smaller sizes, I could wear that one quite comfortably as well.

  42. June 29, 2010 / 1:27 pm

Roxy, you're awesome! Thanks so much for that guide. What would we all do without you? 🙂

  43. June 29, 2010 / 1:29 pm

I bought the navy at full price and have worn it many times w/ compliments each time. I am really, really tempted to buy both the red and the grey versions. I am kinda half hoping they sell out while I hem and haw over here.

  44. June 29, 2010 / 1:40 pm

I had to get a Field Game Cardi in red-I seriously considered getting it in blue too. I've been waiting for it to go on sale.

  45. June 29, 2010 / 2:21 pm

Thanks ladies! I went with my usual M in the navy. If it doesn't work I'll cross my fingers that there is a L left – or I'll get the gray because I couldn't decide which color I wanted!

  46. June 29, 2010 / 2:21 pm

I did not size up in the Field Game. I am larger busted, but saw too many reviews where there was extra fabric under the arms when sizing up. I chose and ordered a small.Does anyone know if a M is actually longer than a small in Field Game? Please let me know – my store is an hour away so it's difficult to check.Heidi

  51. June 29, 2010 / 2:38 pm

The smaller sales are defintely less stressful! I'm going to be reaaallly good and try to sit this one out but if I stumble across a field game cardigan when I do some returns at the store today… I might just have to get it!

  52. June 29, 2010 / 2:39 pm

For anyone who is thinking they were not interested in the Field Game, definitely reconsider. It's not my style at all but when I saw how cute it looked on everyone – it sealed the deal and I ordered it today!Very high approval ratings in the reviews on this one too.Heidi

Lissome Ruffles Tunic! Here I come, you are mine! Bwahahaha…

  56. June 29, 2010 / 3:02 pm

I got the field game cardigans in both grey and red. I stayed up until 12am (pacific time) to buy them to be sure they didn't sell out. Now THAT'S dedication!

  57. June 29, 2010 / 3:03 pm

Some very cute things on sale, but I'm trying to remember Anthro's "In Our Own Words" email this week where the buyer said he now sticks to items that he loves, that really speak out to him. How he used to feel he needed a variety, etc.Just my way of slapping my hand as it hovers over the submit order button. 😉 If it wasn't on my top priority wish list, I can't have it right now.But after I return my Castle Lake Dress, Compass Point Blouse, and a necklace today… Hmm. Summer sale or autumn offerings?

  58. June 29, 2010 / 3:09 pm

i also ordered the field game cardi in the navy and grey, but i think i should really only keep one. i couldn't decide on a color and when i asked my husband which color he liked, he said "neither"! hmph!

  59. June 29, 2010 / 3:11 pm

The Field Game Cardi has been in my wishlist forever so I finally nabbed the red. I also saw one of the SAs at my local store wearing the Joe's Raw Hem Kickers the other day and she had them styled so cute. They did not have them in my size and I figured it was not meant for me to get them….BUT, they are now on sale and in my size online! I got those too…that's it for me this week!

  60. June 29, 2010 / 3:15 pm

Oh, Caroline, what did you think of the Castle Lake Dress? I've been mildly curious about that one, but keep hearing mixed reviews.

  62. June 29, 2010 / 3:24 pm

Ri , just a thought , but maybe if you're on the fence, consider buying whichever one is1)the more unique piece2)one you can pair with more things in your wardrobe3)one you have fewer of in you're wardrobe so you're not duplicatingand finally, try both on and see which one is more flattering and which one speaks to you more!Hope this helpsHeidi

@anonso far no second cut on the fiberoptics dress on my wishlist hth!

  68. June 29, 2010 / 3:53 pm

@riimo, the climbing cowlneck is not made very well. It is sheer and it pilled when i first wore it. I know others have had success with it, but i didnt. A lot of them are still languishing in the stores. I say go field game..

    June 29, 2010 / 3:54 pm

Ah, thanks for the comment Caroline, I was wavering a bit on this sale but you and Keith Johnson kept me strong. Only things I love! I need to prioritize my outdated wishlist with the lovely new arrivals. I can't wait to see how people styled some of these sale items though!

  70. June 29, 2010 / 3:58 pm

@Ri — I really liked the Castle Lake dress, but it wasn't something I'd have a lot of opportunity to wear, and I'd have to buy a new bra to wear it because my current strapless doesn't have enough lift to battle the dress's loose front. Besides, it's almost as good as money since I can trade it in for something I'll be head over heels for.

  73. June 29, 2010 / 4:27 pm

I'm going to chime in on the Climbing Cowlneck. I was going to get the other colors once they went on sale, but I didn't. The navy one I have already has stretched out two-three sizes too big. I have to wear it as a layering piece. I've been really careful with it, handwashing, laying flat to dry, and it's stretched something awful.

  74. June 29, 2010 / 5:50 pm

Off Topic, but can anyone ID THIS blouse by Fei?? Pics, even a vague idea of what year it was from? TIA =)

  75. June 29, 2010 / 6:02 pm

ali and tien – thanks for the honest followup review of the climbing cowlneck. i recently purchased one but haven't worn it yet. sounds like even at the sale price this top may not be worth it. thankssklee2002@gmail.com

  76. June 29, 2010 / 6:14 pm

Ri, my personal thought is , go Field Game too. It is a unique piece, and I see two or three people saying there are quality/ wear issues with the Climbing Cowlneck.Heidi

  77. June 29, 2010 / 6:45 pm

i also got the FG cardi in both grey and navy in store. i've had it at the top of my wishlist ever since i saw it. the smalls were comfortably long on me for 5'4" but just a tad big all over. i'm ordering the xs grey online to compare and will return at least one, hopefully two of them! i also picked up the nexus top in two colors, beige and ivory but have to decide on keeping only one:)

  78. June 29, 2010 / 7:18 pm

Got the Field Cardi in Navy…must be good & not get the grey…stop me!

  79. June 29, 2010 / 7:48 pm

agree with tien, i returned the climbing cowlneck i purchased in an extra small as it pilled and stretched out after one 2 hour wear. and i had paid full price. Cs was understanding.

  80. June 29, 2010 / 8:10 pm

I have the original cowlneck tee in the burgundy and grey color and love them. Quality is good too. However, I too had to return the ones in the newer colors, since the quality was lacking. I think they realized that this was a popular fit and then skimped on the material for more profit on the newer colors. But that is just my opinion. I just felt let down by the newer colors, since the original cowlneck tee is so flattering.

The PA, CA store has a few second cuts that might be of interest. One sz 12 Embroidered Thicket blouse (this is the ivory one with gray edging that should be 9.95 but is marked the same as the Anthurium blouses at 49.95). One sz 12 Arriba Current dress (should be marked 29.95). One sz S and one sz L Pratia tank for 19.95. In case anyone is looking they have one sz 4 and one sz 6 Blazing Rays dress and one sz 14 Wrigth dress. Not sure if anyone is looking for any of these…

  82. June 29, 2010 / 8:15 pm

Ah, Naomi, thanks for mentioning that because I was sitting here scratching my noggin over the climbing cowlneck comments. My plum one (1st release) has held up nicely. It did stretch a bit the first two times I wore it, but both times I threw it in the dryer and now it's fine. Now I'm just hoping my sky blue version holds up OK.

  83. June 29, 2010 / 8:39 pm

This pricing is so crazy! I ordered the Arribada Current dress from the catalogue on last week in a size larger than what I normally wear and got it for $29.95. The SA in my local store found my size in a store out of state and I did a charge send. I see that I was charged $69.95 for the dress and when I called them about it they called CS to verify the $29 price and CS told them that it is $99.95! My gosh…I wish the right hand would let the left hand know what it is doing! It's frustrating. I suppose I will go ahead with the plan to have the $29 dress altered and return the charge-send. Thanks for letting me rant ;o)

  84. June 29, 2010 / 8:43 pm

muse – email service@anthropologie.com to let them know what's going on. Explain to them (politely of course) the price discrepancy issue. I have had great success going this route…and please keep us updated!

  85. June 29, 2010 / 8:50 pm

Thanks Roxy! I will do that now. I just threw up my hands out of frustration. I will update you guys of the outcome.

  86. June 29, 2010 / 8:52 pm

Woah thank you all for the awesome comments about the cowlneck!Naomi, do you know which colors are the newer ones? I hope the sky isn't a new color but I kinda think it might be…I took y'all's advice and bought the Field Game Cardigan in navy. It was a tough choice but your comments help nudge me over the edge. In retrospect I think I made the right choice, especially since Field Game is almost completely sold out in navy while cowlneck is still available in all sizes. Maybe a second cut is in the works! *hopes*Thanks again, this community is the best!

  87. June 29, 2010 / 8:59 pm

I asked at the austin store today about the price of the arriba dress and was told that it is 69.99. Whats going on. I bought it in hopes of getting a price adjustment. Does anyone know the true price of this dress???

  88. June 29, 2010 / 9:06 pm

My experience with the Arribada dress:I was told that there were a few showing up in a blog reader's wish list in my size, so I called and asked customer service if they could match the store sale price. They DID confirm that $29.95 is the store sale price right now. However, They told me that they could not, because Anthro's policy is that there has to be at least 3 of one size in any store in the US in order for them to match it. So, for example, I was looking for a 12 or 14. Even though there was both a 12 and 14 available online, no single store in the US had more than 3 of either of those sizes, so they were unable to match the price. I called back twice trying with different CS agents and they all said the same thing. Grr. Fast forward to Sunday- I found a size 12 in my local store, still marked for 69.95. When I went to pay, I asked them if that was the going price, and that was what it run up on. I explained how Customer Service had verified that 29.95 is the going store price, and could they call CS and verify that price, and match it for me. They called CS, who verified that the SKU number was still ringing up as 69.95, but they were unable to check store prices because their computers were down (!?!). Luckily, the nice SA at my store agreed to do the 29.95 price anyways- but it was a battle! It seems very unorganized!

I bought a gray XS Climbing Cowlneck at full price in March and it's held up OK. When the Climbing Cowlnecks went on sale, I bought both the sky and the fushia online in XS and when they arrived these two were too big and were falling off my shoulders. I compared the shirts and the onlines ones do not have the stitches that pleat the material go as far — what I'm trying to say is if a particular stitch was 8" long on my gray one, then the fushia and sky only went 7.5" so that's why the shirt was a lot bigger and looser. I also noticed that my gray (not sure if this was part of the original release) has a C. Keer tag that is folded in half and stitched only on the top half and says Made in Vietnam. The two big ones I have since returned have a flat C. Keer tag that's stitched all around (like in a square) the tag and is Made in Guatemala. I've since gone to 3 different stores and found 2 more Climbing Cowlnecks with the stitched only on top tag that says Made in Vietnam and they fit like my original gray one. Sorry for the word-y comment about the Climbing Cowlnecks.

  91. June 29, 2010 / 9:46 pm

just came back from the white plains anthro ((914) 397-9434)and saw two cartography cardigans, both in xs. i also saw three looping lanes belts (definitely one in size L) on the rack next to the dressing room. i also saw a green reed shirtdress in either sz. 10 or 12. i just returned a chambray tunic (sz. S), a pair of heatwave shorts in the green motif (sz. 6), breccia necklace (cream), crow's nest top (sz. S), through the clouds tank in the gray motif (sz. S), and night flora sandals (sz. 6). hope this helps!

  92. June 29, 2010 / 9:47 pm

I've noticed similar inconsistencies in my climbing cowlnecks in terms of fit. The pink falls off my shoulders, while the sky and white fit fine. And a bit of stitching is coming off the pink one. But overall, I've found them holding up fine. Based on my own personal experience, I wouldn't recommend that anyone avoid buying them. But I would say that you should carefully check each one and try on a few in the same color to be sure you're getting a good one.

  93. June 29, 2010 / 9:49 pm

I agree with Anon at 5:28 regarding the climbing cowlnecks. Good point about the labels in the tees, I had noticed that they were different, but had not realized that the poorer quality ones were manufactured in Guatamala.RI – the original colors were the purple and dark grey. All the other colors are 'new'. But like Anon said, if you are able to find a 'new' color that is manufactured in Vietnam, it should be of better quality and fit and hold up well like the two original colors. I cannot even count the amount of times mine have gone through the wash and they are still holding up great. Good luck!

Very suprising that there is not a bigger sale for 4th of July weekend. Wonder if maybe there will be friday markdowns?

I'm wondering too, Carmen! Anthro seems to follow its own schedule, holidays be damned. However I am slightly happy that this week's sale is tiny since my wallet is now exuding dust when I open it. :POT, but Rhona Mitra's character is wearing the Caballo Falls dress in the pilot of "The Gates" (tv show). Not a big fan of the show, but it is fun spotting Anthro items on TV. The dress makes its small appearance around the 14:55 mark in the episode (on Hulu).

Can anyone comment please on whether the M in Field Game is any longer lengthwise at all than the S? I ordered the S online today because I think it will fit best, but was wondering if there was a length difference. My closest store is an hour away so anyone who is able to get to a store, your impressions are appreciated.Heidi

  105. June 30, 2010 / 3:50 am

Hey Roxy, in case you haven't found that red Field Game Cardi in size S yet, the Woodlands, TX, store had one as of around 8pm today. For all the rest of you, they had several in all 3 colors available. The heat indices here have been 102-104 lately, I'm guessing that's why they aren't flying off the racks here. 😉

  106. June 30, 2010 / 4:17 am

hs:For me personally, there's not that much difference in length from S to M. Plus, if you go from S to M there will be more material therefore a bit longer but not by much.

Just back from Anthro (512) 236-9301 Austin and they still have tons of everything (including the navy Field Game sweater in all sizes). Only item that was 'new' to the sales and might interest someone here, is the Moulinettes Soeurs Polka Dots dress (cannot remember the name) with the white background and orange dots all over from earlier this year. It was a size 14, missing the sash but priced at $39.95. And I am sure they will give some percentage off for lack of sash.

Anyone hear anything about a sale? I am surprised we just had that small sale Tuesday when I see so many other shops doing such GREAT sales for the 4th of July (like 40% off everything . . . I'm lookin' at you, Ann Taylor Loft, how do you make a profit!?) Anyway, wondering if there would be any markdowns before the weekend?

Hi Muse,Wow! I have the same pricing issue for the exact same Arribada dress. My store had all but my sizes for $29.95, so I called a NY store for a charge send (store info given to me by online Customer Service who confirmed the store price of $29,95 and gave me the store SKU number). And guess what? the NY store has it for $69.95! 🙁 Can you please let me know if your email to service@anthropologie.com had any positive results? I may have to go that route too. My store, as of today, doesn't have any more of the dress left. Thanks

Hi Muse, follow-up message. It looks I found another store selling for $29.95 (the last piece in my size), and it's too late to stop the NY store to ship me the $69.95 one and so I will return that one once I receive it.

  120. July 2, 2010 / 10:26 pm

Chaya- I still have not heard from CS in response to my email. My plan is to see if I can take the one in my size to a local store for a price adjustment. If not, I will return it and just alter the one that I got for $29.95. Good to hear that you were able to get one in your size for $29.95.

  121. July 2, 2010 / 10:38 pm

Muse – it could possibly help if you brought in both receipts when you go in for the PA. That way the SA helping you will plainly see that the dress sold for $29.95 online, and the store price should at least match the online price. Then, stick to your guns. Good luck!

  122. July 2, 2010 / 11:24 pm

I will do that! Thanks Diana! I will let you guys know how it works out.
