After last week’s impressive (but not quite as much as I was hoping) markdowns, word is that more markdowns are on the way this week for Memorial Day. Unfortunately I’m getting conflicting reports from my network on exactly what the deal is. So I’m going to share all the information I have and hopefully you can help me put it all together. My goal in sharing this is to help the community plan their sale stalking accordingly. I don’t have high expectations for this markdown but my hope is that some of the full-price stragglers (ahem, Air Mail Skirt!) finally trot their way towards a price cut.
From what I’ve heard markdowns will be in-store on Thursday. While I hope that cuts happen online on Thursday morning I have no confirmation of this as of yet. Also, while some stores immediately confirmed cuts are coming on Thursday other stores I asked (i.e., all the NYC stores) are either playing dumb or not participating. I’ve never known stores to withhold information about upcoming sales so it’s possible that only some stores are doing additional markdowns, and only on select items. We just had a sizable cut last week. Kim from Anthroholic will be scoping out the scene on Wednesday night, so be sure to stop by her blog to get a first peek at what’s being marked down.
My guess (and hope) is that this will be a company-wide sale just like normal sale weeks are. Hopefully cuts show up online on Thursday morning or at the latest Friday morning. In the case that this does end up being a YMMV (your mileage may vary) sale where only select stores make cuts, here are a few things to keep in mind:
– if the cuts are not companywide, customer service will not honor price adjustments (PAs)
– if the cuts are not companywide, other stores will not honor PAs
– if the cuts are not companywide, stores that make cuts will only honor that price on in-store purchases for as long as they have that item in-stock

Totally agree with Spiffy, it feels like it came fast. I was very good last week, I only got the Spilling Ruffles Cardigan and the Acting Out Skirt on sale day. I'm not sure there's anything in particular I need if there is a sale this week but I'll be up early tomorrow 🙂

Amen sister on the Air Mail Skirt! That and the Aniseed Skirt are the two bottom (read: oldest) things on my wishlist. My wishlist is 183 items long, soooo… you can guess how long those things have been just sitting there. I'm kinda ticked that the Beda Dress just went out of stock online in my size in the white, which means if it goes on sale any time soon, I'll have to be frantically calling CS and stores. Sigh. If I had the dough, I'd just have bought it early and hoped for a price adjustment. But I'm a graduate teaching assistant, and, well. They don't pay us Anthro money, lol.

Going to the opening night of the new Anthro in Austin on Thursday, so the date for the sale is just perfect. I hope they have a lot of stuff in their sales room, especially items that have been sold out everywhere else.
Oh, BTW, is anybody else seeing some weird stuff going on on the wishlist? Several items on mine — mostly stuff that has been out of stock a while, or is a popback — is showing no picture anymore, just a broken image link, and instead of having my set color and size selected, it has blank dropdown boxes. This is happening even for stuff that still shows in-stock (popbacks). Anybody else seeing this going on? Is Anthro doing something else awful to the site (like when they fixed it to where out of stock items redirected you to the homepage? I thought that was nasty, given the incredible amount of popbacks they have, making popbacks harder to buy).

I left a comment on the weekend post about the Thursday markdowns and the SA said it wasn't necessarily going to be 2nd cuts but more on regular price items going on sale. I really hope that some of those super old items go on sale too!

OT but I was in the Wayne PA store this morning and they had a TON of Plaza cardigans, mostly cream colored. Also S and M Parted Petals cardis, at least four total. Also a Baily 44 rayony type of open cardi with smocking on the chest in black and gray for 49.95. LOTS in their sale dept. Hope this helps someone!
Ugh, I wish I worked or lived near an Anthro to spy (relatively speaking, I work near one – 10 miles away, but with traffic it takes me at least 30 minutes)!It would totally suck if only select stores did markdowns, but I really think they are going to do a company-wide sale (at least in-store, and then online at a later time). Anthro is really trying to make bigger moves to connecting their in-store business with their online/catalog business, so even if they want to do in-store first, online probably won't follow too far behind. I mean, can you imagine the logistical nightmare of having only select stores have markdowns?Now, one thing I have known Anthro to do in select stores is have an extra 40% of sale special…

I was planning on going to the Wayne store tomorrow to scope out what's out in the sale section since it's generally well stocked and to see what else they have gotten recently, but do you remember if they had the Ambrosial Cardigan or the Stripes and Light Tee in yet? I saw the catalog they keep at the register with the dates of in-store arrivals but I forget if it was the May 24 or May 26 for those two items.

Question about returns. I bought the Friendly Competition Top in the creme color and while I like it, I'm really not wearing it enough. I'd like to return it but I already took off the tag. I do have the original receipt and it should be on my anthro card. I probably can't return it, right?If not, I'm going to offer it on the trade market. It's a size 0.

@ elise re: friendly competition top – def. size down. I am a 4 (or sometimes even a 6 if it is fitted due to my ribcage) and I have more than enough room in the 2. It is a very versatile piece, the green seems to be just the right shade to go with a lot.
@Katie, I have worn the friendly competition top but just not enough. I take it out of the closet to wear and end up changing into something else, so to me that means it's time to go back. I almost never take the tags off either but thought this one was a keeper. I'll try to return today and see what happens.
dorothy,if you've been wearing it, you should keep it. Its unfair to return an item that didn't have quality issues that you HAVE WORN. That is no better than wearing a gown to an event and taking it back. Don't abuse Anthro's liberal return policy or it will screw us all.Don't you agree Roxy?

I have to agree with Anon @ 6:57)-if you've worn it and there is nothing WRONG with it… it's not fair to return it. Anthro is going to stop being so liberal with their return policies if we start to abuse them.
Please don't return things ANYWHERE that you have worn. Buyer's remorse is not a retail establishment's fault.
I'm sorry, just to clarify, I wore it once, and then every time I pull it out to put on, I end up putting it back into my closet. It just doesn't work with my wardrobe. But I agree with you, it isn't fair to return if I've worn it once. If I don't end up wearing it any more, I will try to sell on the trade market. Thanks for the feedback!

Anon @ 11:04 – if you bought the item on sale, yes they will PA to 2nd cut price. But if you bought the item at full price you will not be able to get a PA to 2nd cut. Hopefully that makes sense.

Just stopped by the Philly Anthro and picked up a couple things… when I was getting rung up, I asked the SA if there were going to be more markdowns tonight/tomorrow and she said no and that they are done Tues (first cuts) / Weds (second cuts). Hopefully she just didn't know though.I was also at the Wayne, PA store yesterday and they definitely seemed like they were getting stuff ready for some markdowns, so who knows.Both stores were brimming with full priced clothes on the floor so hopefully some of it starts to get moved back to sale, especially with all the June catalog pretties that will start to be appearing.

if this sale is in-store (and certain stores only) instead of online or company-wide, it's going to be suuuuuch a pain. : Already the stock of the Beda Dress is erratic online, who knows what'll happen. I can't afford to buy it full price and hope for a PA. Plus, if no PA happened, I'd probably not be able to return it anyway, I like it too much.I also think it's pretty incredible that here we are, going into June, still waiting markdowns on stuff from the January catalog era. (Or like the Twined Ribbons Cloche, which I'm pretty sure came before Christmas). Give us a break!
Just was in the 5th Ave, NYC store. Their sale section was pretty full and when I asked about the sale rumor, the SA seemed really surprised and said, we just had a big sale last week. So not sure what's going on! I did see one Wright dress in a size 12 or 14, I think, if anyone is still looking!

Just got the Salty Seas Dress for the sale price! Thanks to the fellow follower who informed me! I asked my local SA staff what they saw going into the sale and they told me no on the Field Game Cardi and no on the Two-Wheeler. But the Salty Seas will definitely be in it, cause I already got it at the $69 to prove it 😉 THey told me this sale will mostly be first mark downs, in fact they didn't know of any 2nd markdowns as of 8:30pm. HI kornrose!I do that, but most of my popbacks come out of old catalogs. I use this link by Anthropologie Addict to access all the old catalogs, http://anthropologieaddict.blogspot.com/2009/10/f…. I then scroll through the pages and click on the items. If it's in stock, the price shows up. Add it to your bag, and call customer service to see what the price is in stores. If there is enough in stock in stores, they will give it to you for that price and you just pay by phone. In my case, there were enough in stores to give it to me for $9.95. I hope that helps!!!
