Spotted for less: sandals, swimsuits and espadrilles

Every so often fabulous community members email me about Anthropologie items they’ve found for less somewhere else. Much as I am a store loyalist I love a good deal! This post rounds up some of the recent finds; please add a comment if you know of something else.

The outfit above features a beautiful pair of Chie Mihara sandals. Anthropologie called them the Hoisted T-Straps ($380) but they’re sold out. And even when they were available $380 is a hard pill to swallow.

This week is Lord & Taylor’s Friends & Family event. They’re one of EA’s newest affiliates and what a warm welcome this F&F event has been! They carry those same Chie Mihara t-straps ($375) and after discounts you’ll save over $100 on them! (Use promo code FRIENDS at checkout.) Still not cheap by any means but much less than the full asking price.

Seafolly’s Natalie One-Piece ($148) has a classic glam vibe that is just dying to go to Mexico with me. Many thanks to Jamie, who let me know that this same suit is available here for $134. With free ground shipping on USA orders, that brings the total savings to almost $30. Not bad! Thanks Jamie for the link.

This last item comes to us from Sharon, who asks, “Hey roxy, have Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie ever sold the same item before?” Yes, though not commonly. If you buy the Enduring Espadrilles ($96) you’re getting pretty shoes to be sure. But why not pay pay $8 less, include it in a free shipping order, and use ebates when buying the same shoes from Urban Outfitters?? I don’t know why not either. Silly Anthropologie!

Have you spotted any Anthropologie items for less somewhere else recently?

The Rise and Fall Cardigan by Charlotte Tarantola is available on the Bloomingdale's website for $98 ($30 less than the Anthro price). They are calling it the Jukebox Stripe cardigan. Only in the blue motif, sadly.I hope this helps someone!

Endless.com is a good place to find Seychelles shoes at lower-than-Anthro prices (plus free shipping!). Endless even often has colors that didn't make it onto the Anthro site. Some examples:Ganache Pumps (they're called Apple-A-Day Pumps on Endless) – some colors are on sale for $44.95Ballet Flats (they're called Silk Stockings Satin Flats on Endless) – on sale for $43.97

Roxy, I LOVE this feature! I would love to see it as a weekly or regular feature. I love anthro, but it is nice to have options – not just for price reasons, but color and selection. Thanks for everyone who posted other items.Btw, I am drooling over the new arrivals!

Hi, you can get the Penguin's book at amazon for $13.99 no tax and if you buy 2 for example shipping is free. Better than $20 at Anthropologie. I just ordered a bunch of them could not resist the price differences. (Treasure Island (Penguin Classics) as an exemple).

I noticed the Rise & Fall cardi like Megan, but I have also found other Charlotte Tarantola cardis on sale at various stores for less. Sometimes the name is different, and there might be other colors, but you can find a good deal. 6pm.com has Seychelles as well, and the other week they cut the prices in half.. sign up for their emails because stuff goes quickly.

Piperlime.com also has a decent selection of Seychelles, some on sale. The Apple A Day Pump is also only about $45 on their site.

I fell in love with the Rosalita sandals and found them on endless.com for $140 and free shipping (listed for $148 on anthro.com)They also have a black pair with light pink flowers. They are very comfortable too!

Not the same as the items you've listed above, but I saw this top at Target a couple of weeks ago and thought "wow that looks like something I'd see at Anthro… but not for 30 bucks). Bought, and it fits TTS. Very cute IMO. <a href="http://www.target.com/Merona-Easy-Care-Wear-Square/dp/B0033TM9VS/ref=br_1_14?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=343755011&node=343755011&sr=1-14&searchRank=salesrank&searchPage=1&searchSize=150&id=Merona%20Easy%20Care%20Wear%20Square&qid=http://www.target.com/Merona-Easy-Care-Wear-Squar… />On another night, I just pulled the trigger on my first pair of Chie Mihara's and I'm in love. If you buy through endless.come and use bigcrumbs, you can get 12% back… that's a whole lot when you're talking about a pair of 400$ shoes 🙂 Try this if you're interested…. http://home.bigcrumbs.com/brockm226

I found the artist that made the "stone necklace" (or it's an artist that makes very similar necklaces) and ordered the same necklace for a fraction of the Anthro necklace! Look at it here:http://www.etsy.com/listing/45149783/multi-color-stone-flower-handmade?ref=vl_other_2 I didn't receive it yet, since it is going to be sent from Thailand, I really don't know if I will have a positive experience. But I will let you know when I finally get the necklace on the mail. For that price, it's just amazing!!!

Do any of you know a place for good retro bathing suits? I love the one in this post but my local Anthro said they won't get it in stock and I feel a bathing suit is one of those things you have to try on… Has anyone bought this suit? How does it fit?

  14. April 22, 2010 / 10:19 pm

Meg, I bought the Natalie suit in a 6 and 8 (and haven't returned either yet.) Here's my review from the site:I've had this suit on backorder for weeks and it finally arrived. It is truly beautiful and a very well-made piece. I think it's definitely worth the money.I used the Seafolly size guide and ordered a size 8, which is my normal blouse/dress size. I'm 5'4" 135, 36C-29-38. The top fits well and is supportive even without an underwire. The rest of the suit fits somewhat loosely, or it seems there's a lot of fabric as another reviewer mentioned. It's comfortable and doesn't bind (so no issues with whatever one calls a muffin top on the upper back.) But it also doesn't give a girl a hand by smoothing things out a bit like many suits do. Personally I'm over 40 and have had 3 kids so I could use a little help ;-)Sizing down might help, but I think it's the fabric. 93% Nylon, 7% Elastane, Lining 90% Nylon, 10% Elastane. If you're an A or B cup you could probably size down without a worry. If you're one of the lucky girls who doesn't need any help in the "smoothing out" department you will look stunning in this beautiful suit!"BTW, sizing down didn't work. As I suspected, it was too small for the girls. I wish you could update your reviews on the Anthro site. It would be useful for these situations. The Greener Pasture Wedges are available at Urban Outfitters in black (also had ivory but I think they sold out) but they are MORE there, which surprised me.

Modcloth has a lot of retro items. I've never ordered anything from them, but the website is very interesting, and they have a good selection of swimwear. http://www.modcloth.com

Nordstrom is carrying the Tangled Treasure sandals. The "Gaby" sandals are by B. Makowsky and come in a variety of other colors like purple, blue, black and brown. The price difference is not much, but the other colors are nice. You can also find the shoes on Endless.com and Zappos, I think.Great post!

I second having this as a regular feature. Maybe this will even encourage Anthro to be more competitive with prices – wishful thinking!

  18. April 23, 2010 / 12:29 am

Anthro has a mark-up over other retailers. If I like a pair of shoes, I almost always try to zoom in and find the brand, then purchase them elsewhere.A shoe store on Hawthorne in Portland has the Walking on Sunshine sandals for $90, in all the same colorways and then some. I tried it on, but it was a bit too flat for my feet.

Oh yeah, Modcloth.com has a fab alternative to the retro style Anthro swim suit. Search for the Bathing Beauty suit. It comes in regular and plus sizes and tons of colors and fabrics. I got the black polka dot in a size 16.

Hi Ladies!I regularly find Anthropologie items from the following retailers for less.Nordstrom Rack: Notably, I've seen a lot of Leifsdottir and Tracy Reese. They also carry Free People items.TJ Maxx: I found that they carried Sparrow, Knitted and Knotted, and Ecote from UO.I love searching through the racks and finding an item for much less than Anthro prices. I hope this helps you gals find some good deals!

Century 21 in NYC has a ton of Chie Mihara's and Seychelles shoes for so much cheaper. A couple of months ago I saw those Seychelles crossway heels for $19.99

Naomi's mom – whoa, are you serious? I have never seen Chie Mihara at Century 21 before. I will have to check it out again for sure. Do you see them at the shoe outlet or in the main store?

  24. April 23, 2010 / 5:44 pm

Thanks to everyone who mentioned modcloth's swimsuits! I've glanced at that site before, but didn't know they carried swimwear. I just ordered the cutest red polka dot one-piece and thanks to Chloe's blog, used the 10% off code (thanks Chloe!).

the beautiful Encoded Platforms from Frye are on Ebay for a mere $99! http://cgi.ebay.com/New-215-Frye-Blair-Lace-Up-Pe… They are actually called the Blair sandal by Frye. These are my size, and these babies are on my wish list… so tempted. Some one else snap them up!

I've found that the Chie Mihara, Coclico, and Argila styles I like at Anthro and Piperlime are often less at Ped Shoes. Plus, they're a little company, so I don't just feel like a number when I order. The owner has answered the phone when I've called with a question. I love that.

  27. August 27, 2010 / 3:40 pm

Thanks for the tip on the swim suit. It's on sale now, so the savings is more like $60. It's still $150 plus $13 shipping at anthro.
