Reviews: Red Delicious Blouse, Woodblock Print Skirt, Obscured Oleander Cardigan

Welcome to the Chelsea Market Anthropologie fitting rooms! They are so ornate and bright and I love them. Major kudos to the team behind the store design. No more caves like pod 1 at Rockefeller Center or all of the 5th Ave fitting rooms. The floor, with its pebble fan pattern, is simply gorgeous. I admit to staring at it for awhile…although that could have been the Chardonnay.

Plus the rooms have cubbies! It’s amazing what you can do with a bit of space. I was pleased with the store’s stock of new items and grabbed a few things to try on. This reviews set is from last Thursday night’s party. I have a backlog of photos I’m slowly catching up on. The rooms were so bright that I had some difficulty getting good shots. My sad little iPhone camera kept closing its digital shutter for less exposure, not letting in enough light. I’m sure I’ll figure it out but please excuse the darkness of some of these shots.

Finally, something from We Love Vera’s line that fits curvy well. This is the Red Delicious Blouse ($88) that won my heart in the April catalogue. It was hard to navigate the sea of people to get to the racks so I just grabbed one hoping it would be my size or close to it. I ended up with a 10 which was too roomy but fine for pics. I will buy a size 8 (one size up from normal).

The print is everything you’d expect a Vera to be. Bold, bright and crisp. The button-down is tailored such that there is a defined, tailored waist. I love the cute little pocket on the left side. The buttons are easy to work with unlike some of Anthro’s recent tops. A complete winner. This gives me hope that the Sketched Danios Dress ($158) will be a winner for me too. Wishlisted!

Odille’s Woodblock Print Skirt ($78) is an eye-catcher. It’s got a floral print in a color that’s the combined tones of pink, peach and orange (closer to pink in my opinion). The front of the skirt has a wide a-line pleat that is questionable. I was suckered by a beautiful H&M skirt with a similar cut and found that while my waist looked tiny and terrific the damn thing bunched into a diaper with every step I took. So I proceeded cautiously here.

I initially grabbed a 10 but found it too big at the waist. The 8 was much better at the waist but the hem was catching my thighs as I walked and pushing the skirt up into a bunch. Sigh. I can’t tell if this is due to the shape of my legs (probable) or the slightly tapered hem of the skirt (possible). I think I’d probably stick with the 10 to be safe. I am left undecided though. Points for pockets, points off for the side view. Wishlisted for now to deliberate further.

I was very tempted to grab Sparrow’s Obscured Oleander Cardigan ($88) in pink to match the rest of my outfit. In the end though I took the brown so it would stand out more. I loved this cardi from the moment it appeared on the website and in real life my affection only grew. Sparrow’s winter sweaters are often scratchy wool but this one, while not incredibly soft, is much nicer against the skin.

The medium was comfortably large on me though I’d probably buy in a small. The sleeves are very long, which I like but will not be to everyone’s taste. The oyster-shaped pockets are a wonderful unexpected touch. This would be a spring to fall work staple. I’m not sure about the flower placement — right over the chest, really? — but it’s subtle enough that I can deal. My dilemma is which color to get as I truly like all three. Wishlisted!!

Great reviews! I'm glad the red delicious blouse worked, I was debating it the whole time finally caved and bought it, it hasn't come yet but I might be glad I ordered two sizes to be sure of the fit since you sized up. I also love the Woodblock Print Skirt on you too. Is that top you're wearing with it from Anthro?

The first blouse with the apples is great…looks good on you too.

Thank you Gemma & JenLynn! :)Stephanie – the top is from Ann Taylor Loft. I don't see it online anymore but this one is very similar.

I love the red delicious blouse on you! I think I may go to my anthro today and I would love to see that one IRL.

AHHHH the Woodblock Print Skirt in real life! I had thought it might just be an urban legend! I caved and ordered it on Tuesday so hopefully I'll have it by the weekend! And I love the Red Delicious Blouse on you! I'll definitely have to try that one on!

Oh, thank you for the cardi review! I'd briefly been intrigued with that one online, but now it is a must have for me! Did you see the pink color in store? It looks very salmon-y online, is that accurate?

  8. April 22, 2010 / 1:46 pm

Martha – I hope your store has it! The shirt is so pretty, I am quite taken.Kathleen – eek! Haha, so funny about the urban legend, I wonder about some items too…can't wait to read your review. :)sarah – yes, salmon, coral, definitely a medium pink. The product shot is true-to-color. If I didn't already own a few pink cardis it would have been instant grabby hands for me.

I love the apples top on you. Super cute! Funny enough, I just spoke to my mom and SHE bought that top yesterday. Isn't it kind of amazing how Anthro manages to appeal to such a wide audience? On the other hand, shoot, I hope the woodblock skirt looks cute on me… I've loved it since I first spotted it online and planned to go find it in stores this weekend. Thanks for the heads up though… I'll be sure to walk a bit in it to see if bunching occurs.

ADORE the apple shirt on you, but am I the only one who thinks it's completely a fall item? It screams "back to school" to me. I love it anyway, but I might feel weird wearing it now.

I was wondering where you got the sequin-y tank too! It looks great, and also similar to the tissue sequin tank from JCrew. I saw a sales associate wearing it the other day, and it looked great too!

I ended up loving the sketched dannios dress on my curvy body! The 8 was a bit snug on my hips but otherwise it was flattering! I reviewed it this week. I love that first top on you!

Your purse matches the apple shirt perfectly!

Love the Red Delicious blouse-I might need that in my life! how cute would it look paired with the Many Moods skirt? Those fitting rooms are indeed beautiful-I also love the idea of enjoying a glass of wine while trying on clothes at Anthro…

What I want to know is who makes your purse? It's adorable!

Ladies, here's a better shot of the tank top. It will be included in my next OOTD set too. It has sequins starting at the neckline that go about halfway down in a waterfall-type pattern. It's still in stores, and this week is their F&F, so highly recommended! I think it's $20 full price.emily – yes, without a doubt that is one of the things I love most about Anthro. 🙂 Katie – Apples are definitely more of a fall thing, but I love the idea of it with white shorts for summer.Calina – I agree, it does remind of me the J.Crew sequin top! I think that's why I was drawn to it.Jesspgh – ohmygosh, thank you so much for the review. Also, how did I not know until just now that you have a blog??!? Kristin – LOL, almost. The purse is a watermelon color. Sharon – I see what you did there! I am in fact wearing it with my beloved Many Moods Skirt in the photos. :)OnlyGirl – it's by Tano, from fall of 2008. I bought it at Anthro. I see them every so often on ebay and if you search my blog archives I have a couple of posts on it.

Love the Red Delicious Blouse on you – mine shipped USPS (boo) and I'm hoping it will be here by the end of the week, and that it will fit! It's selling like hotcakes, so I hope I don't have to scramble to find it in another size if I guessed wrong! These fitting room pictures do look so nice and bright!

Thanks for the link Roxy! I might try to look for it in store too.

Mmm, I didn't think the Red Delicious Top would be that wonderful IRL, but I tried it on last week and fell in love with it too! My only quibble is that it is a tad too short. But anyway, it looks wonderful on you! You and I should both get it soon so we can accidentally/psychically wear it on the same day sometime 😉

  21. April 22, 2010 / 8:28 pm

Haha I don't know, Roxy? But I am glad you liked my little review. I think it will look very cute on your dynamite figure. I actually gave you/effortless anthro a shout out on my blog yesterday because of the Daisy Quarter Skirt that I was about to buy and have sent to me from a California anthro, thanks to your community of dedicated readers.

the red delicious blouse looks awesome on you! how fun to find a shirt that you love. i would have never noticed it in the store b/c it's generally not my kind of print/colors, but i noticed it today 🙂 didn't end up getting it, but it's so fun to be alerted to other pretty things in anthro (which otherwise can be kind of overwhelming with how many cute items they offer).
