Reviews: Roaming Frills Cardigan, Edana Cardigan, Tagalong Tee, Pipe Up the Band Jacket

Guinevere has two very similar cardigans in-store at the moment. On the left is the Curling Posies Cardi ($88) and on the right is the Roaming Frills Cardigan ($88). The plackets are clearly different but overall these cardis have the same look. It’s good to have options…at least Anthro isn’t charging extra for buttons.

I grabbed the Roaming Frills Cardigan ($88) in a medium. There was some gapping when closed so I would size up to a large to buy. It was shown on the same table as the skirt and top (reviewed in this post) but it was total ruffle overdose for me. The cardigan, which feels soft but thin, is extremely cropped. I could see it working well as something to throw over a dress. The buttons however rivaled the Falling Ribbons Sweater in terms of button pain. Ow abounded as I tried to open it so sorry, but it wasn’t getting re-closed for this review.

Note to Anthro: softer buttons please! Splurging should not be this painful. Wishlisted.

Sparrow’s Edana Cardigan ($98) is already gone, gone, gone from the website. I guess it must have been one of those purposely scarce items Anthropologie sometimes makes. I can see the appeal — the back is super cool. It was one of those items that I saw on the rack and internally monologued: oh this is really cute. But it will never work on me. Why does Anthro insist on doing hip flares??!? And sure enough even the large you see on me above was not very flattering.

A little longer and it would have looked like a longer riding coat. At this length though it was a no-go. I would be concerned about the long-term durability of this one anyway due to the thinness. Sparrow hasn’t really impressed me with their quality lately. Back to the rack. If you want to see this cardigan looking terrific, check out this OOTD from Chloe’s The Chloe Conspiracy.

I saw these two items together on a dressform in-store so I gave the look a shot. Rain boots aside they work well. The top is Michael Stars’ Tagalong Tee ($48). This one size fits all thing continues to confound me, especially since the brand comes oddly close to actually fulfilling that promise. In this case there was too much pulling for me to feel comfortable. The material is also kind of itchy. Most likely this is from the subtle sparkle in the shirt. I like it but it’s a pass.

The jacket paired is the Pipe Up the Band Jacket ($128) from Idra. I grabbed the large on instinct and my instinct was wrong. I should have stuck to my true size medium. The jacket has three or four hook-and-eye closures along the top third and lays open to the bottom. I love the idea of the design across the front but it looks somewhat cheap to me. The piping is very well done. This spring jacket would work well for a biz casual look. Wishlisted for further consideration.

Hi Roxy,Bought the Roaming frills to work as my "ivory" cardi esp with dresses….I have hung it up with the Precious stones dress but not tried it on yet.It is also a 'dull' ivory..chalky so may end up returning this.I initially loved & bought the brown color.Same issues with the Edana,….and I am an XS petite !Don't like how the end expands on my waist/hipline & makes me look disproprotionate.Any opinions on the Scattered sequins skirt? It is v pretty but v limited in it's versatility & function, I feel.Esp since it is dressy & feels like one.( Bending /sitting the skirt feels tight & fragile as it is silk )

Hi Shalu, I have not tried on the Scattered Sequins Skirt but from looks alone it looks like a great spring/summer option. Not as sure about the clusters of sequins. If they are subtle I like it but if they stand out too much they could look cheap. Great work option.

I had the same problem with the Roaming Frills sweater. I found it to be too short. I told the SA this and she said, it supposed to be that short and maybe belted it would look better. It barely hit my waistline. I can see it only good with dresses. Also, the ruffles were too much for me.

I just can't jump on board with anything that's one size fits all. It just doesn't add up. It flies against the face of logic. My personal perspective on Mike Stars stuff: it might fit all of us, but does it fit *any* of us well? Now on the other hand, you look adorable in that tweedy skirt. http://spillingthebeans-emily.blogspot.com/

I love it when they do hip flares! (Of course, I have a small bottom, large breasts and not much of a waist.) But I'm sorry they don't work on you.

One size fits all is a joke to anyone who is bigger than a size 10 I've found. Which sucks, I've seen some cute stockings at Anthro but one size fits all? Laughable. It's almost lazy on the part of the designer. I may also be bitter so…

I think that first frilly cardi (the cropped one) you tried on would have looked really nice and springy in a seafoam green color … similar to the Felted Lei cardigan. Also, OT, but when I submitted my answers for the contest today, I didn't receive the automated e-mail like I did the past two days. I didn't know if there was a glitch or anything.

The one size fits all puzzles me! Like that Playing favorites skirt, or whatever it was called. Originally, it was something else, called something else, and they changed it. The website lists different sizes, but when I tried it one, it was on size fits all. Now, it fit me pretty well, so I have no idea how someone smaller or bigger could have worn it.I like the Roaming Frills cardigan on you, but I kind of don't see anything special about it. I think that's why I passed on it.

I love the Michael Stars tee & the jacket on you. I am a bit distracted by the jacket. I keep staring at it, so I really didn't catch whether you like it or not. I love it.
