Catchup and Reviews: Sunny Escape Tank, McKay Tank, All-the-Fixings Top

I hope you had a fantastic weekend! As I mentioned in the comments of the weekend community post my sister made a surprise trip into town. I am in the process of catching up on emails, so if you emailed me Friday afternoon or later I will get back to you shortly.

Anthropologie reached out to me directly this weekend as well to let me know that they are in fact NOT starting their own official blog. Which, whew. The CS rep I spoke with on Friday was quite sure that they were and that is why I felt comfortable in passing the (wrong) information along. I apologize for the error — whenever possible I work to confirm any company news I pass along, however in this case it looks like I jumped the gun and caused myself some unnecessary stress in the process. Thanks for the support in that post. Reading your comments galvanized me as I fretted. I’m glad that you’re as invested in the community as I am.

I’ve got a nice backlog of posts to get through starting with some reviews. Let’s get to it, shall we?

I saw the Sunny Escape Tank ($68) in-store displayed under the Peeking Lace Blazer ($118, review here) and decided to give both items a shot myself. This tank is made for comfort. C. Keer used light cotton to great effect. I love the tiny flowers all over this and while I’m normally anti-orange this technically red top has a pleasing palette.

I grabbed my normal size medium and I was swimming in it. The bottom of this shirt has some weight to it and I felt it pulling downward. While I loved the feel of the top I was not pleased to see the bottom lace inset was turning from circle into chevron. The result was making me look wider than I already am around the hips. I’m sure that trading down to a small would fix this. Be warned that this shirt does flare out a bit towards the hem. Tricky for pear shapes. I like this shirt a lot in spite of its challenges and I plan on picking it up soon. In my cart.

Deletta’s McKay Tank ($78) is one of those tops that I love but some of my friends find ridiculous. The tank itself is cotton and the collar is polyester with layers of ruffles, fabric beads and a big ol’ bow. I tried on the small and it worked perfectly on me.

There is an elastic hem on the bottom of this shirt but in the dark grey I was able to place it low enough on my hips to keep a good shape. The fabric of the shirt is meant to be wrinkly which is a little frustrating. It takes the shirt down a notch. The collar is removable — convenient for washing but without you’re left with a $78 cotton tank top. Still I love this top! I would have bought it if it were $20 cheaper. Wishlisted for now.

one.september comes all-so-close to perfection with their All-The-Fixings Top ($68). There are a couple of issues that keep me from altogether loving it. First, it’s made of a really thin cotton/polyester mix that I can tell is going to stretch with wear. Anthropologie items usually last a long time, and maybe I’m wrong here, but I feel like next spring this shirt won’t be in great shape.

Secondly, I do not like the location of the lace trim. It it were at the natural waist it be a shape-flattering accent. Instead it sits at the top of the hips drawing attention to the fact that my hourglass is about to flare out. It’s not terrible; the inset two inches lower would have been far worse. It’s just not as flattering as I’d hope. The lace only goes halfway around and since the shirt falls straight down from the chest this looks wide from the side. I tried on my true size medium in this shirt. A pass for me.

So glad your sister was able to visit you! Hope you had a great time and glad to have you back (it was a long weekend without a post)! The Sunny Escape Tank looks like a bit of a let down. I'm not pear shaped, but a flare at the hem doesn't help anything. Thanks for the review! The other two look great on you!

One more thing! The climbing cowlneck is finally back on line with lots of colors!

Thanks Katie! I saw the Climbing Cowlneck is back in a bunch of colors online. (yay!!) No plum though, that color seems to be sold out for the moment.

I like the McKay tank on you, Roxy! And truth be told, I wouldn't have even given it a second look otherwise. Now. You have me thinking. *taps fingers*

I am in the ridiculous camp for the McKay tank, but I respect your flaunting it. :)What is that cute skirt you are wearing in the 2nd and 3rd set of photos?

Does anyone know if the flocked chiffon blouse went through a 2nd markdown?

Ah, Chloe, I can see you rocking the McKay tank easily. Heather M. – Hee, fair enough. 🙂 I can only be true to myself in that I love big frilly collars. The skirt is the Above-The-Fray Skirt which will get a review later this week. Probably Wednesday. 🙂

The Sunny Escape Tank looks a little too FreePeople for me, but that's mostly the oversize droopiness you described. The McKay tank looks great on you. I wonder how the ruffle would fare under a light cardigan, since it's only really warm enough for a full-on tank about two months out of the year.I love the lace straps of the last one, but you're right about the lace at the bottom creating some wonky proportions. Sad face.

Off Topic, but has anyone had a chance to try on the Blue Bird Blouse yet?

I was eyeing the mckay tank too on friday. I just didn't like how the jersey was all wrinkly. I'm not a fan of that look… otherwise it's totally cute.

OT – but I had to let you know Roxy that I bought the "Shimmering Pin-Up Cardigan" – in ivory. I never would have tried it on except for your positive review (awhile back). It is amazing and looks great over so many tops/dresses. I especially love it over the Snow-Covered Fields dress. Thank you Roxy for all the time and effort you put into your blog!!

Ellabel – It kind of has the essence of Free People I suppose, but it's missing the strange diagonal zippers, tear-outs at odd places, etc. Plus this shirt has space for breasts, something Free People never does.Anonymous – I have not yet.coco – I am with you on the wrinkly jersey. Not loving it. Maybe I could buy the shirt, remove the collar and attach it to something else not wrinkly…hmm…Krameymartin – thanks chica! I'll head over now to check your reviews.Denise – Oh, that's wonderful! I'm so glad you like it. It's one of 15 things in my cart at the moment. Sigh.
