Reviews: Zipline Cardigan & Candied Sweetbriar Cardigan

I am all about the outfit you see above. I saw it at Soho (NYC) earlier this week and swooned. It’s got my adored Leaps and Bounds Belt ($34)! Plus an item I’m about to review.

That would be Moth’s Zipline Cardigan ($118) which was at 5th Ave (NYC) for about a second last month and recently reappeared. I tried on the medium and it fit but made me feel a bit lumpy. When I buy this one I’ll probably get a large. The zipper details on the side are kind of cool but the main zipper was a HUGE pain. It got stuck on me twice before finally just becoming permanently stuck. It didn’t catch wool or anything — the zipper just locked up. This is what you get when you don’t use YKK Anthro! Embarrassingly I had to ask the fitting room attendant for help and she couldn’t get the zipper unstuck either. So she was nice enough to just get me a different one. The second one was fine…but I’m wary.

The stitches, contours and accents on this sweater are beautifully crafted. It feels very warm and not at all itchy. I love the warm ivory color and would use this as one of my layers while snowboarding. The scooped collar is perfect for layering over a turtleneck. I disliked the zipper but liked everything else about this piece.

Charlotte Tarantola has already claimed two spots in my sweater drawer. Could the Candied Sweetbriar Cardi ($118) claim a third? Sadly no, for a variety of reasons. Let’s start with the biggest one: quality. This doesn’t seem to be a problem for the brand overall, just this sweater. When I was going to take the sweater off, I noticed two huge marks on the hem. I thought, holy shit! I got deodorant all over this mother! But then as I looked closer I realized it was actually a defect in the cardigan. Incredibly obvious as shown in the far right shot above. So I asked for another one…it had it too. The runner was curious so she grabbed another and it had the same problem too. Now that I’ve read the online reviews I see this is an epidemic quality issue in the sweater. I am so bummed to hear about this. Anthropologie’s quality standards are usually much higher than this.

Defect aside this cardigan wasn’t thrilling me. I tried on my true size medium and found it quite short. With a dress that would work fine but even a skirt would be tough given the lack of length. The buttons didn’t pull with the cardigan closed but I find the shape flattering at all. The material was kind of thin too. I like the print a lot and the cascading lines of ruffles are cute but this is a total pass for me even on sale. Too bad too — I wanted to love it.

I love the top you're wearing under the sweetbriar cardi. Is it Anthro?

It is! It's the new-but-curiously-on-sale Balcony Tee. I have a review of the brown version here.

Hey Roxy!Anthro seems to be going a little crazy with the sales this week. The Balcony Tee is finally back in stock on line, but it's not on sale anymore (Boo!). But some tops that were on sale have gotten second mark-downs! Nothing too dramatic, but I'm statching up a Twists-of-Fate Scoopneck. It's a nice basic top and it's hard to argue with $9.95!

I had the same issue with the cardi and thought the quality was awful for the 128 price tag considering they just spray painted the hem or something. The GM couldn't believe it either when I pointed it out, too bad bc the rest of the cardi is super cute. I posted about it on the purse forum. Check out our Anthropologie thread @ the purse forum under wardrobe section.

Lol, I know it's a different brand but I had similar weird white deodorant-like marks on the shoulder of the gray Wind-Rippled Tees at my local Anthro(on top of the craptastic quality of the restocked version!) The white marks on the tees looked like they just weren't dyed completely. I showed it to a SA and she said she would talk to her manager about it.

ROxy, a word of caution to fellow Anthro shoppers.I was trying on pair of shorts and in one of the pocket found a jacked up Anthro sales tag. I thought nothing of it and flicked the tag off in a corner and left the fitting room. Next thing I know, I was being followed by a sales clerk, another clerk came up to me asking stupid questions, and at the cashier, another clerk asked where I bought my BIG gray bag and she even tried looking inside my bag when I was opening it. THe whole staff though I was a shoplifter because of that stupid sales tag I found inside the pocket of the shorts I was trying on. They did not directly accused me but I feel so HORRIBLE right now.Lesson learned. If you find a sales tag in the fitting room that does not belong to you, GIVE it to the fitting room clerk and DO NOT leave it in the fitting room. They will think you stole something. This is a store in California.

Do you know what top is being shown under the zipline cardigan that's on the mannequin? I love that whole outfit!
