Reviews: Abstracted Adornment Dress, Shimmer Stripes Sweater Dress

I don’t know what it is about color smears but I love them! First it was the High Speed Cardigan (now $70, no longer online). Now the Abstract Adornment Dress ($248, above) has captured my attention. To the dressing room we go!

Ranna Gill has a big presence at Anthropologie this winter and I can see why. The designs fit right in with the Anthro aesthetic. I tried on my true size medium and it was very roomy. So you’re safe to size down in this one. The dress has a side zip, a beautifully done braided waistband and a bejeweled neckline. I am not a fan of the neckline; I found it chintzy. Since I’d have to wear a cardigan or sweater over this it wasn’t a deal breaker.

I don’t know why but all of Ranna Gill’s dresses at Anthropologie are heavy. They pull you down a bit with their heft. But I found the dress to create a flattering, easy silhouette that I liked a lot. To the wishlist it goes.

Not as successful was Knitted & Knotted’s Shimmer Stripes Sweater Dress ($138). The crisscross neckline is an unusual and interesting shape. I like how long the skirt looked on the hanger. Points off for lack of pockets.

I’m not sure what went wrong here but the skirt is completely out of proportion with the top. I tried on the small which fit perfectly on top (though not especially flattering). But the skirt was bulbous and huge and laughable. The skirt does have some slight shimmer to it thanks to metallic threading but all that does is draw attention to ridiculous shape. It looks like I’m wearing a diaper under the skirt. Pass.

Great Reviews! The Abstract Adornment Dress looks really good on you. I had it on my wishlist because the pattern attracted me but since you mentioned it's heavy, do you think it's only a winter dress?

I think it would be too much for summer but could work in any other season.

Hi Roxy!I wanted to let you know I found 3 of the Abstract Adornment Dresses at my local Anthro today marked down to $29.95! What a deal! This dress was $248! My local anthro is in Old Hyde Park in Tampa, FL. They only had XS left, but it fit me, and I'm usually a Medium. Anywho, didn't know if you bought it yet or not!
