Wish List: December 2009

There were no new sale additions this morning. And just a few new arrivals. Anthro must still be in post-Turkey nap mode. Since this is the season of giving my wishlist is pretty short at the moment but I can always find a few things to pine for.

1. A cut off the top.
There are several Anthropologie tops that I’ve tried on and liked but not enough to pull the trigger at full price. Though they’re probably a while off from making it to sale (if they ever make it) I’m willing to wait and see with these cute items.

From top left, moving clockwise: Clustered Camellia Tee ($78, review here), Glistening Juniper Top ($78, review here), Purlicues Tank ($78, review here), Magnetic Fields Corset ($88, review here), Noisette Top ($68, review here) and Paragon Top ($88).

2. A party dress away from the norm.
Each of these dresses has something a bit different and special about it. Moulinette Soeurs’ Sterling Dress ($168, review here) is a one-shoulder delight, the Mise-en-Scene by Ruffian piece Jacquard Gala Dress ($228, review here) is part young, part fun and all ready to go, and Corey Lynn Calter’s velvet Curtain Closer Dress ($198, review here) is all holiday spirit and tradition without any staidness.

3. Big, beautiful flowers.
I am not sure what is so alluring about the Roped Posies Necklace ($38) but it’s got me under its spell. I bought the red version last weekend and I’m just biding my time before I buy the black version. The necklace is BIG in real life — I’ll add some shots later today. The flowers are very well done and the little center jewels are spectacular. A bold statement to be sure, but one I’m ready to make.

What’s on your wishlist this month?

Hi Roxy,I was sad to see no new sale items today! Does that usually mean that we're out of luck until next week (I'm an Anthro newbie)?Sarah

Not necessarily Anon. Sometimes they change up the day they add to sale. Hopefully that's the case this week.

I have the painted lotus dress on my wishlist. But since there is no anthro anywhere close by and I've yet to see a 'real size' person try it (i.e. not the anthro catalogue model) I'm still holding out. Did you see it in store, or tried it, or know another reviewer who did? Thanks

Hmm, very odd Anon. I did try it on but I can't find a post for it. It was true to size for me…let me see if I can dig up the pics after work tonight.

I also love the Noisette top in the purple.BTW, I love, love, love your blog, which I just discovered. You and I have a similar body size and shape as well, so your reviews are particularly helpful to me.I'm relatively new to Anthro, but I discovered something yesterday that might be old news to you, but was amazing for me. The sale prices on the tags in store are not necessarily the actual price — they can be lower. Some stores are worse about marking down. I found this out because I had my eye on a Deletta top. It looked a little bit odd on the hanger, so there were a bunch on the sale racks in every store I went to. But I thought maybe it would go lower than $39.95 because there were so many. So I waited and saw it down to $19.95 at one store. I didn't have time to buy it right then, but I knew I'd be near another store with a lot of that item the next day. The other store had it at $39.95 still, so I didn't buy. When I went back to the first store, the cashier at the register told me it was $9.95. When I asked, she said that sometimes they just miss marking down items but the price will be universal across the chain. I also bought some leggings for $9.95 that still had the $19.95 tag at some stores. These, interestingly, happened with items that are no longer on the sale page of the website (or I'd link tot them).

Hi Kathleen, and welcome to the community!Thank you much for sharing about the in-store prices. What a nice surprise to find an item rings up lower! That did happen to me once at the beginning of this year — I was going to buy a bag marked down to $70, but it rang up as $10! Best thing that ever happened to me at an Anthro. I had no idea this was a regular practice. It's kind of cool because you get lower prices…but then again if I knew the prices were that low I might buy more.

Hi Kathleen and Roxy,That is actually not a regular practice, at least not at the store I work at, but it does happen sometimes. The associates in charge of markdowns will make sure that everything is marked down to the correct price. However, when items are marked down further (for example, when the go from $39.95 to $19.95) they might not catch every single item that's already been marked down, or one might have come in as a return and someone forgot to change the price before they put it back on the floor. This seems like the experience you had. We try our best to be on top of it, but there's such a high volume of merchandise, especially sale, moving through the store, that occasionally we miss one or two. You have a significantly better chance of this happening with older sale merchandise. That dress that got marked down to $99.95 the week before won't magically be $19.95 two weeks later, as much as I would like it to be sometimes.I do, however, absolutely love telling people that the $49.95 pair of pants they're holding is down to $9.95, because it tends to make their day 🙂

Ahhh, clarification much appreciated Anthro Employee. Thank you! =)

Hi Roxy,Love your blog and have been an ardent follower for a while.I know this is OT, but I need your help. I am planning on wearing the Glimmering Magnolia dress to a holiday party this weekend. Any ideas as to what kind of jewelry would look good with it? The dress has glitter right below the neckline, so would something glittery be too much? How about some pearls? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!!

  10. December 1, 2009 / 3:50 pm

Hi Archana! Awesome dress choice. Honest opinion? It's a holiday party and you can go a bit crazy. 😉 Sparkle as much as you want to lady. Pearls are always a great option, so classic and ladylike. I have a few suggestions too. The Chamomile Necklace is a great choice to follow the neckline, or the Radiant Necklace in either color could really pop off the dress. The Pearl Farm Necklace is one more good long choice that I see double-layered in store all the time. The colors go with just about anything.

  11. December 1, 2009 / 3:51 pm

On the delicate side the Pessinus Garden Necklace looks divine, though I haven't seen it myself yet. And I'm recommending the Frayed Diamonds Necklace to pretty much anyone. Pricey but pretty. One last option, and this one is my pick…the Tiered Plumeria Necklace. It has matching earrings in the Lobelia Bud Earrings. Just the right mix of delicate and pretty in my opinion. Let me know what you end up going with (or if you pick something different). Have fun at the party.

Thank you so much, Roxy! You have given me some great choices. I'm gonna hit my local Anthro today to see what they have. Will definitely let you know what I end up with. One last thing, do you think the Joley pearlized peep toes in Shore Pink would look good with the dress? Thanks again!

Wow, I love that flower rope necklace! I'm tempted to buy it for myself now, but I think I'll be good and add it to my myregistry.com holiday wishlist instead. This is a great blog! So much easier than stalking my local anthro to see if they've added new stuff to the sale racks yet!

  15. December 1, 2009 / 4:57 pm

I'm also sad that there's no sale today, although my wallet is happy because I finally had time to drive to an actual Anthropologie store over the weekend (the nearest one is more than 2 hours away from my home!) so I went a little nuts. I wish that Anthro would open a store in Northern New England (there isn't a single store in Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont). On my wish list:Mallard HeelsAlways A Lady SkirtAbydos DressA Thousand Tiers Dress

Hi Roxy! This is my first time commenting, but I just love your blog. I'm only a year into my Anthropologie love, and your site has given me so much helpful information! I knew I should have checked the sale section early this Tue, because the Wavelet blouse by Floreat was there, and I just missed out on it. 🙁

  17. December 1, 2009 / 5:28 pm

    love the new layout, Roxy!

  18. December 1, 2009 / 6:00 pm

Archana – Absolutely. I love my Joleys! (I have warm brick.)Hazel – totally, added to the list. Nice wishlist…a few of those items are on my desperate to try on list.Caitlynn – the necklace is so great, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a bold pop. :)Lola – I was bummed too, especially since I got hints yesterday about sale. Maybe later this week? The A Thousand Tiers Dress is so incredibly fabulous. It's on my wishlist too. Anon – Oh no! I'm so sorry you missed it. I know that's a really popular item. What size are you looking for? Thanks Alexandra! We're getting into the holiday mood here. Going to pick out a Christmas Tree for my boyfriend's place this weekend.

I can't wait to see the flower necklace on you! If I like it I will probably have to get it myself! As for my wishlist, the Garnet Glow dress is at the top. To me it is a must-have for the family get togethers I'm going to attend when I fly to the mainland for the holidays. If it doesn't go on sale in a week or two (which I don't think it will because its on backorder), I will probably just pay the full price. I also have the Bouquet of Roses Heels (I'm on the backorder list!), the Reveille Jacket, the Equanimity Bag, the Double Ruffle Trench and the Blushing Faille Dress! I'm hoping to rake in some $$ for my graduation in 2 weeks so I might be doing some massive Anthro shopping soon! And I too was bummed to see no new markdowns today. 🙁

I was looking for a size 14 in the Floreat (I heard you should size up for that top). I'd even have taken a 12 or a 10. I called the main # and they said all three of those sizes were unavailable. At least the Ice Capped Blouse is still available, and very similar.

Just wanted to make a note that there were, in fact, some in-store sale items added. I saw the Drenched Helenium tee, the Fosteriana cardigan, and the Up and Away cardigan marked down at my local Anthro, as well as a few other items. Heather

I love the perlicues top and the paragon top. So pretty. The necklace looks great, too. Caught a glimpse of one of your pics of it :-).

That is great. If you do have a review for painted lotus dress, it might just send me over and make that purchase. Thanks
