Introducing The Anthropologist

I find myself inspired by Anthropologie: the stores, the clothing, the ideas their brand communicates. But what inspires Anthropologie? This study, this investigation and these musings are abstractly answered by a new website launched today: The Anthropologist.

The site is affiliated with Anthropologie but is not an e-commerce site or a product-based site. Instead, it’s an indirect look at some of the people that influence and inspire. “Pure art and inspiration,” as the press release put it.

The first three inspiration board collections feature Jane Campion (from The Piano and the new movie, Bright Star), Andrew Zuckerman and David Eustace. Clicking around the site I was engulfed in sights, sounds and words. Much like Anthropologie the store, this site is as much about the journey as it is whatever destination you end up at.

The site launched this morning, though Racked had the inside scoop last week. And as their commenter alludes to, this site will all but certainly grow comparisons between Anthropologie and Kate Spade. Spade’s inspiration board site is much more newsletter style than meandering album though.

I’m eager to click around the site some more to see what kind of easter eggs are hidden within. The photos are quite inspiring to me. Anthropologie is holding a launch party for the site later this week. It will be fun to hear more about the concept and plans for this site! You can also become a fan on Facebook.

I just had to laugh out loud. Did the writer of the Racked article consider that maybe the point of the website is, um, inspiration, i.e not to "move more ruffled cardigans" – which was admittedly the comment that made me laugh in the first place. I also look forward to watching what happens with the site.

Hee hee Sydneygirl, I think Racked was just teasing a bit. Funny thing was I actually wanted more ruffled cardigans after visiting the site…strange indeed.
