Reviews: Sterling Dress & Sound Waves Dress

If I didn’t already have a Halloween costume lined up — and if I hadn’t already been Pebbles a couple of years ago — Moulinette Soeurs’ Sterling Dress ($168) would be component number 1 in the best Wilma Flinstone costume ever. When I saw this dress I could not stop laughing. It may sound like I’m making fun of it but I loved it. Loved it! From the second I laid eyes on it.

Talk about a stunning winter party dress. Brocade and buttons and a one-shoulder look that actually works. This dress must be mine. To the fitting room!

The photos above are a 6 and as you can see I had an issue with the skirt. The pleat in the middle was pulling across my thighs. So while the top fit great I’ll end up buying this in an 8 and having the top taken in. The fitting room attendant suggested that the security tag might be causing the issue so I’ll declare this dress true to size but pears beware.

Thunder thighs aside I thought this dress looked spectacular on. I love the shoulder cinch. I love the buttons at the waistline. I just overall really love the dress. This is going to be my New Year’s dress if I can wait that long to wear it. The fabric of this dress is pretty stiff but there wasn’t any crunching as I moved. I noticed the skirt added a bit of a pooch in front but I think as I wear the dress that will settle down a bit. Simply stunning all around.

This dress immediately made me think of Chloe Dao’s ice skating challenge dress from Season 2 of Project Runway (below). It’s actually the Sound Waves Dress ($248) by Shumaq. The dark teal color is lovely and anything with movement catches my eye.

Would I even remotely resemble Grace in the dress?

Not so much. I think this dress is really designed for smaller busts. My strong shoulders created a wide look on top that wasn’t especially flattering. I tried on the medium and found the dress to be true to size. The top was long enough to keep the elasticized waist at my waist and the length was good, hitting me right above my knee. I suppose the teal color is fall but again I was getting spring vibes from this dress. The season denial continues.

It’s kind of a bummer the top didn’t work better for me because the dress is the ideal color for my complexion. Paired with a cranberry or purple cardigan I think this will be a real stunner for someone. Unfortunately that someone is not me. Hopefully it works better for you.

Hi V, closer to the product photo. My iPhone wasn't reading the color very well.

Oh, I saw tried on this dress a couple of weekends ago and I liked it, it was a little big for me on the chest area, but I really do not have much there, if you know what I mean. But it was gorgeous. When I saw it, I could not find t online so I was not sure of the name. Thanks for the review Roxy.
