Reviews: Top, top, top, skirt

I don’t know about you but my trips to Anthropologie usually last a while. Even though I’m there a lot. My visits last on average over an hour. Even before I started this blog my trips averaged that length. I just love walking around the store multiple times. It’s easily twice as long as I spend at any other store. When I go after work it’s a trade-off. Less crowded but also less time to browse. And grab camis. To go under sheer shirts…

…like the Stowed Away Blouse ($88). I apologize profusely for how sheer it is but I really like this top enough to post despite that. Besides, maybe it will push Anthropologie’s designers to say Enough with the sheer already! Roxy’s posting shots without camis underneath for God’s sake! Must protect the youngins’ eyes! Anyway, this Floreat top has slightly poofy sleeves, a gauzy makeup and “lace-like” embroidery on both the front and back. The embroidery creates a feminine shape while the ruffles lend a nautical touch. The name alludes to a slightly sailor-like appearance and I only wish I could have paired the top with the Nevara Pants ($278) for the full effect. The blouse was meant to be paired with wide-leg paints. I tried on my true size 6 and was happy with the fit. Unlike a lot of ruffly blouses this fall the Stowed Away blouse is finshed. No frayed edges. No unfinished hems. Just a flattering, lovely, too-sheer blouse.

Odille’s Blustery Bouquet Blouse ($78) has a pattern that kind of looks like candy hearts floating in a glass of bubbily. The whimsy drew me in. I’m wearing my true size 6 which once again was the best fit. I wasn’t prepared for how wide the neck is. My bra straps were visible unless I positioned them all the way on the edge of my shoulders. I was hoping for a bit of an arty vibe and I think it’s there somewhere but this shirt just doesn’t have enough shape for me. The waist tie is no substitute for actual structure. When I saw that the shirt was dry clean only I knew I wasn’t buying it. I wouldn’t get enough wear out of it to justify the repeated cost to clean it.

This in-your-face monochromatic masterpiece is made up of the Draped & Gathered Top ($78) by Weston Wear and the Whorl & Twirl Skirt ($128) by Floreat. In the left-hand shot I tucked the shirt in so you could see the skirt pockets. Let’s start with the top. The first thing I noticed was that the top is made in the good ol’ US of A. You don’t see that very often anymore so major kudos to Weston Wear! I have to say I didn’t love the top when I first put it on but looking at these pictures makes me like it better. To say this shirt is form fitting is putting it mildly. I’m wearing a medium here which is already one size up for me. I would be more comfortable in a large but the fit might be wrong. This shirt is made to hug. I really like the print and the work quality is there.

Floreat’s Whorl & Twirl skirt is short but oh so cute. It gets points off for an exposed back zipper but it wins those points back for three total layers — the top layer you see and two black, flouncy underlayers. I love the pockets and didn’t really see the ‘poofy butt’ some of the product page reviews note. I tried it on in a size 8 and was happy with the fit. Just not the length.

Hmm I'm not at the moment but I do have a friend who's looking for the Isabella Skirt from the spring in a size 12.

Ok, I'll look for it, Do you know if it was in a catalog last spring or who what brand it is?

Whenever I'm at Anthro, I feel like I do 2 or 3 laps of the store! Do you usually go to the same location? Luckily, I have quite a few Anthros near me so I try to mix it up instead of hitting up the same one each week.

Hey have you ever tried on the Elimovna coat? i think i'm the same size as you but i don't know what size to order in that coat, as i keep reading to size up. if you've tried it on i'd love some help!!

Hey Steph- I saw your comment and had to respond…I ordered the elimovna coat online in my normal size a 4 and it wouldn' even button..it was way to small in my boobs and shoulders. When I tried a new one on at the store I had to get an 8 to fit comfortably and look perfect. So I suggest f you have any kind of shoulders and bustline, to go 2 sizes up..

Thanks Kim! Yeah the Whorl & Twirl Skirt is pretty short. Great for the teens and those that like the short length, painful for the taller among us. Rosemary, I do hit the Soho Anthro more than the others because it's only 2 blocks from my work. But my heart belongs to the one on 5th Ave because it's where I really fell in love with the brand. It really is so nice having multiple Anthros to pick from. We're spoiled.Carly – wow, I am sad and surprised to hear that your blouse is defective! Did you call Anthro? A couple of years ago I received a necklace and it broke as soon as I put it on. I called customer service and not only did they send me a new necklace, they also sent a pre-paid box for me to mail the defective one back in. Steph – I have tried on the Elimovna coat (there will be a full post next week) but short answer is I agree with Natalie that it ran very small. I am normally a 6 in Tracy Reese but needed a 10 to feel comfortable. Hope that helps! And thanks Natalie for your take too. 🙂

Thanks for your sympathy!! I did try emailing Anthro about the blouse, but they never did respond to my email! Do you think I should still try calling, too? It's now been almost a month since I bought it, but I haven't worn it once because I'm concerned it will fray even more.

Yes you should call them. Lame that they never responded to your email — you just need to get through to the right person.

hmmmm strange…. so I called the company and they said they couldn't do anything about it. I then called the store where I bought it in Alberta and they said to send it back to them in the mail and then they'd take care of the exchange or refund. Am I just being paranoid or is that kind of sketchy sounding? I don't want to send it back and then get nothing in return for it… I'm hoping that they would never do something like that.

Hmmm I am not in love with the customer service so far either. But I would trust the store to do what they promised. I would keep your original receipt and send a copy with the shirt. I might send a note with the shirt: dear so and so, please note that per my phone convo with so and so on 9/3, I have sent back the damaged shirt for an exchange or refund. And if anything goes sketch let me know. I want to make sure this ends up being righted. 🙂

Please size up in your clothing. It's gross seeing your plump stomach showing in all of the pictures

Oh, Anony, are you sad because nobody loves you? My thighs I can understand but my tummy is actually pretty nice, thanksverymuch. 😉
