Reviews: Split-Neck Shell

I had never heard of Porridge before this season. And yet several of their items have made it either to my wish list or into my closet. The latest object of my affection is the Split-Neck Shell ($58). Come fall I think it will make a great layering piece under cardigans. For now paired with a skirt it’s a great work piece.

The shell comes in two patterns. I like them both equally. I tried on the green motif in-store. The website describes the fabric as jersey but it felt much stiffer than that. I like how the shirt tapers ever-so-slightly at the waist and then floats away again slightly at the hips. Sizing was a bit difficult with this one. Porridge’s stuff has run small on me so I went for the medium initially. But it was a little tight around my chest. I asked for a large and it was about two steps too big. This top is supposed to be fitted but the medium made a bit too uncomfortably squeezed. I’m not sure which size to recommend. I’d have to tailor the large to be sure; the medium would be fine as a layer but not on its own.

Have you seen or tried on this shirt in-store? I’m curious what others found.

Too cute! Normally I wouldn't love the colors on the second one, but I think (as you've said) as a layering shell it would really "pop" under a sweater. Also, I would definitely go up and tailor it down… Any pulling will annoy you later.
