Reviews: Honeyed Peplum Skirt

I was really looking forward to trying the Honeyed Peplum Skirt ($258) on. So many possibilities for this golden yellow wool skirt. Just a standout piece for fall in every way.

When I saw this skirt on the rack in-store though I knew it was going to be problematic for me. It’s quite short. I was happy to see that the bottom didn’t taper in too much. I hate to admit this but I am getting sick of pencil skirts. I was happy to see them come back and for winter I think they make sense. But in spring and summer I’ve found them too constricting and I long for the freedom of an a-line jersey skirt.

I like the side zip on the skirt and the pleating in the peplum. The four buttons were sewn on well and they added a bit more visual interest to an already appealing piece. This skirt has significant weight to it and it will probably be a good couple of months before you’d be able to wear it here in New York. This is a solid fall skirt, not a transitional one.

If this skirt was 2 inches longer it would have had a shot of coming home with me. Everything else about the skirt was divine. The color was warm; the quality was high and the details were spot on. I thought the peplums would make me look wider but they did not. But it just did not look right on me.

This is a size 8 — I tried on a 10 as well and there wasn’t much difference except that the waist was too big. I am almost out of skirt hangers in my closet so perhaps this is for the best. I would still recommend this skirt highly. Cannot wait for this short trend to pass.
