Reviews: Beach Grass Dress

You know how when you can’t have something you really want it? That’s how it is for me with strapless dresses. I am always drawn to them even though they are not the best shape for me. Occasionally with the help of in-dress boning and an amazing strapless bra I’m able to make it work. Mostly though I pine needlessly for a shape that does not flatter me.

Please pardon the bra straps in the real life shots above. I decided the Beach Grass Dress ($168) by Moulinette Souers was worth a shot because the bodice is large enough so it won’t totally erase my torso. The skirt on this dress is so pretty. I love the tulip cut of the top layer. I do find it weird that the seams on the bodice part don’t line up. That was done intentionally but bothers me a bit.

I grabbed this dress in an 8 figuring I’d need to size up for the shape. I was wrong. My shoulders look hunched in the photos because that’s how I’m keeping the top up. It does have smocking in the back but this was still too big on me. I’d need my true size 6 for the best fit.

One thing I do not like is the exposed zipper on the side. They are all the rage right now but I think it looks cheap. Otherwise I like the dress and with a cardigan over it I could really rock this. The dress does come with removable straps as another bonus. For full price I’ll pass but on sale this one shall be mine.

Strapless is very overrated. I mean, you end up pulling it up all night long, no matter what your bust size! I say a deep V is sexier, anyway. :)Justinefetchingfashions.blogspot.com

I agree! I also hate exposed zippers so I am very sad they're coming back in style. 🙁

I suppose you're right Justine. Part of the appeal to strapless for me is the sweetheart neckline. But pulling up the dress all night? No fun!

Not digging this dress at all. Strapless dresses are great in theory, but not so much in reality. I suppose you could have thin spaghetti straps added on by a seamstress. But the cut of this dress is not wow'ing me – looks a tad voluminous for no particular reason.
