In or Out: Storm-of-Shapes Dress

Anthropologie at ShopStyle

I am attending a wedding in Colorado in October and I’ve started shopping for a dress. Could the Storm-of-Shapes Dress ($158) be the one I’ve been searching for? Yoana Baraschi has a great eye for the feminine shape and patterns. There is a bit more fabric around the shoulder than I’d like but the cute sash more than makes up for it.

This dress was so cute in real life. No, I didn’t Photoshop my hand off in the far left shot — this dress has pockets! And while pockets can add hips to hips on top of hips on some dresses here they fit right in with the slightly poofy skirt. I tried on my true size 6 and the dress gets high marks. From the online product page I see the shape of the dress changed a bit between sample and production. It looks like the skirt used to have a bit of an a-line to it. I’m glad that changed. The straight shape of the production skirt balances the poofiness well. The length was great too. I was happy this hit right at my knee.

One knock (there’s always one) is that the zipper was nearly impossible to zip. I’m not really sure why. The back isn’t too low; it was just hard to zip up. Putting on this dress is a 2-person job! Is this outfit good enough to stay in my cart? Or should it get cut out?

I love the fit, and Yes! a dress with pockets is awesome, but nevertheless, I vote no.I find the color and cut of the top of the dress uninspired at best. It would depress me to be sitting at the reception, where the cutest thing about my outfit was hidden under the table! You can do better.

I agree! I vote no as well. I think it's super cute, but you can do better!

It is a cute dress, but like Emily and Kristin, I vote no. The color is lack luster, and doesn't do enough for your great figure. Good point about the bottom of the dress being hidden, Emily! In all of the pictures you may only see the top half, too!

I appreciate the honest opinion ladies. Emily — what a great point. I hadn't even thought of that but you are so right. Focusing on a dress with a cute top (and maybe a flowy bottom for dancing?).

Very cute, but I agree you can do better for a reception.

Judging from the pictures I would agree with everyone else. The dress might be quite cute but I´m sure that there´s something better for you. But maybe it´s just the photo?

Looks like I'm the lone dissenter. I actually really like it- I'm imagining it paired with some pretty magenta/fuschia heels, like this color:Steve Madden Luna Clutch.I say don't completely rule it out. I really like how it fits on you and I think it'd be perfect for an October wedding out here in Colorado. You don't know if it's going to be hot, sunny, or snowing by that point, LOL.

I didn't think it looked bad. I wouldn't rule it out although I do understand some of the comments dissenters made. I have this dress and wore it to work and got 2 compliments quite quickly. It's a different dress and perfect for late summer, early fall instead of wearing black like everybody seems to do (including myself) these days.
