August Wish List

Though July is technically the year’s halfway point, it’s August when I feel invested in the current year and looking forward to what’s coming in the next. Gone may be the lazy days of school life and the summer breaks it afforded but the city empties out pleasantly on the weekends. It allows for a bit of a mental break. This year has brought both turmoil and reflection and most recently a massive closet purge I’m still in the midst of. I’m dreaming of more than a few Anthro pieces with which to replenish.

1. A pretty modern masterpiece.
It’s called the Giverny Dress ($168, photo above) which was Monet’s sprawling estate though to me the print says modern more than impressionist. Either way I love this Maeve concoction. There is something about flora in purple, green and cream that I can’t say no to.

2. To the batcave.
Anthropologie warned us that batwings were coming a few months ago and now I am seeing them more and more. RicRac has come up with my favorite rendering so far in the Lemon Valley Scoopneck ($68). It’s floaty and simple but not at all plain. The dark grey (looks blue!) color is great for now, great for fall and great layered for winter too. Can’t wait to see this one in person.

3. Stop and smell the Rosebuds-in-the-blue.
Anna Sui does it again with the Rosebuds-In-The-Blue Blouse ($128). I am a little leery of the pleated cap sleeves but love how the shape looks elongating. Just looking at this top makes me happy. I can already predict that this top and my hips will have an argument over space. Here’s hoping they can come to an amicable, flattering agreement.

4. A versatile layering piece.
I admit I’m a little unsure that I could repeat the three versions of the Transformations Cardi ($98) seen above. I used to have a hard enough time folding the windshield sun visor from my car. But with a bit of practice (and maybe some good instructions) I could probably figure it out. I am always drawn to things vaguely military and the brass shoulder buttons do the job well here.

5.This skirt gets an A for effort.
I keep calling it the thousand island skirt but regardless Odille’s Thousand Days Skirt ($78) was one of my favorite pieces in the July catalogue. Contrary to all the product reviews so far I actually found myself sizing down one size in this skirt for the best skirt. If you want it to sit lower on your hips stick to your true size but beware extra poof. It’s also the first skirt in awhile that actually hit me near me knee — just at the top to be exact. And for that considering the shortness these days Odille deserves an award! And my admiration.

What are you wishing for this month?

The Fluttering pencil skirt…I can't wait to make it into the store to try it on! I can see myself wearing it for years to come.

The Giverny dress is totally gorg!I ordered the Oxford Grad Peep Toes today. They are not available until August 15. I saw the online photo of the model wearing them with saturated blue tights and fell in love with these casual shoes. Can't wait to wear them as a fall transition shoe.
